Top 10 Chick Flicks (Part 2)

top 10 best chick flicks

I’ve been wanting to write part 2 to my first post, My Top 10 Best Chick Flicks, because really, as a chick flick lover, how could I only limit it to 10? Chick flicks, to me, are the ultimate “feel good” movie, even though they may not exactly be the most realistic. But one can dream! Here are 10 more must best chick flicks…

Bend It Like Beckham (2002)

Bend it Like Beckham (buy here): Right after I published the first article, I smacked myself for forgetting this gem. Probably one of the most funniest chick flick ever. The plot is that the daughter of orthodox Sikh rebels against her parents’ traditional cultural beliefs and runs off to Germany with a football team. So yep – it’s a girl’s soccer movie! It also stars Keira Knightley and it’s so, so hilarious.

Fave quote: “Lesbian? Her birthday’s in March. I thought she was a Pieces.”

Beastly (2011)

Beastly (buy here): This is not so much a chick flick; it’s more of a teen romance; and if you get past the terribly unrealistic plot (as in, Lindy and her father’s storyline, not that the guy turns into a beast) then it is thoroughly enjoyable. This is the “modern day” Beauty and the Beast story, based on the book by Alex Finn, and I don’t know, it was just such a sweet, lovely little movie. It stars teen queen Vanessa Hundgens and the drop dead gorgeous Alex Pettyfer. I really enjoyed it. It’s one of my favorite movies even though it was a big flop, ha.

I love it for several reasons. The piano score throughout the movie was absolutely breathe-taking (there are many variations in the film but this one is my favorite), the beautiful imagery, and also… Alex Pettyfer… more like PRETTYfer am I right? They made him look like a monster and he still looked hot. Go figure. Also, the last 30 seconds of the movie will also make you LOL so bad. Mary-Kate Olsen also stars and she was perfect for this role, I loved her outfits.

Fave quote: “Is bullshit one word or two?”

Sex and the City (2008)

Sex and the City (buy here): I never got the SATC love. Until you know, I was ill for a few months some years back and I basically was in bed and watched every single episode. Apart from all the sex scenes and the STUPID Mr. Big, I really enjoyed it. And the first movie was just as great, it really showed the love between these 4 girlfriends. Girlfriends are so important and I really loved that aspect of Sex and the City. And the fashion, of course.

Fave quote: “I curse the day you were born!”

One Day (2011)

One Day (buy here): I didn’t really think I would get so into this movie, but what, what a show! Showing the lives of two friends at the same day each year – some years they are just friends, some years they are not speaking – but in the end; even after almost 20 years, if you’re meant to be with someone, it will happen. Such a beautiful (and realistic) love story. Just remember to have your box of tissues ready.

Fave quote: “Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today.”

Dear John (2010)

Dear John (buy here): This is one of Nicholas Spark’s movies, so you can imagine it is romantic as heck. It also stars Amanda Seyfried, who I love because she is a fellow crazy dog lady. Nicholas Spark’s movies are always sad, too (cough, A Walk to Remember, The Notebook), so prepare to bail your eyes out – I know I did! Basically, Amanda falls in love with a solider.

Fave quote: “No matter where you are in the world, the moon is never bigger than your thumb.”

It’s A Boy Girl Thing (2006)

It’s A Boy Girl Thing (buy here): I’ve seen this movie several times because it’s just too cute. I loved the main characters and there were so funny moments (mostly all with Horse) where I was laughing like crazy. Basically, it’s like the Parent Trap – lovers edition! These two neighbours hate each other, and one day swap bodies and start to fall in love. You know, totally cliche, but so adorable and funny.

Fave quote: [Woody’s girlfriend trying to seduce Woody even though he’s in love with Nell]: “Do you like my dress? It’s so tight, it shows everything. I had to leave my panties off…”
“Let’s hope you don’t get diarrhoea then.”

She’s the Man (2006)

She’s the Man (buy here): Oh, poor Amanda Bynes. But this movie is her favorite of mine; she is so good in it, and the soundtrack is perfect. This is a “modern day” Twelfth Night by Shakespeare; where Amanda pretends to be her twin brother and goes to his new school so she can play soccer. Yep, another girl soccer movie. How come they are so funny?! It also stars Channing Tatum before he got super famous.

Fave quote: “Girls with asses like mine do not talk to boys with faces like yours.”

The Breakup (2008)

The Break Up (buy here): Well I just had to add Jennifer Aniston in. Because you know, I LOVE HER. I wish she was my aunt… or something. As you can probably tell, it’s about a breakup and all the drama that goes with it (especially for a couple living together and neither refuses to move out.)

Fave quote: “Discover a path… that doesn’t lead back here.”

The Notebook (2004)

The Notebook (buy here): Oh gosh, SAP alert. How could I leave this one out of the list? I really didn’t want to see this because I am not into long sappy love stories, but oh gosh did I cry. So, so good. Like I said earlier, probably the most popular Nicholas Spark’s books, and apparently the most romantic movie ever? I’ve only seen it once though – and once is enough! The plot is simple: Ryan Gosling is a charming, young handsome man (basically playing himself?) poor man who feel in love with a very rich girl; problems ensue due to their social differences.

Fave quote: “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird.”

17 Again (2009)

17 Again (buy here): OK, this is also not so much a chick-flick, but it’s a good old rom-com that the boys will even love because boy, did I laugh. I didn’t expect too, but it was hilarious. It stars Zac Efron, which I am sure the ladies will love. Also, this was the first time I’ve seen CHANDLER MURIEL BING in years! I’ve missed him. Matthew Perry plays a man who has made some mistakes in life and is miserable: he gets a chance to go back to highschool (become 17 years old) again to fix it.

Fave quote: [A “nerd” trying to hit on the hot principle after shaking hand]. “I think our hands just made a baby.”

And those are my next 10 for now! I think it’s time we make this an annual tradition, what do you think? I mean, which girl doesn’t love a good night in with a chick flick and snacks, that’s one of my favorite things to do. :) Please, as always, add your other favorites to the list.
