The Last (Birthday) Supper

The last of the birthday celebrations was last night with a Danish dinner for friends and family. It was amazing but I am kinda glad all these celebrations are over… ENOUGH! I cannot fit my jeans anymore.

Anyways, I am glad everyone was fine with the food… I suppose you could say it’s “different” so I wasn’t sure if everyone would like it. Danish food is mostly mini sandwiches: rye bread with herrings, salami, liver pate, ham, roasted beef, and all sorts of toppings. Then the second course was caviar, my Mom’s famous meatballs (better than those from Ikea for sure!), sausages, pork and fish fillets. After that was cheese and crackers and dessert, which was no where near Danish: tiramisu and my only request this year – lemon cake!

Years ago (I’m talking about 15 or more) my mom made a lemon cake for my grandma’s birthday. Growing up I always hated cake, but when I tried that, it was the only cake I liked. So this year when she asked what cake I wanted, I asked for that “cake you made for Grandma”, I couldn’t even remember what it was, but that it was gooood. And it was worth all those years of waiting! Everyone loved it and I already had some leftover for lunch, oops. I guess I’ll be at the gym tonight… :-P

Ah Danish food! Missed it sooo much after three weeks in France, even though they make fabulous food as well :) Couldn’t live without my rye bread!!! Hahah how could you hate cake? You’re half Danish, and you know we looooove pastry haha :) Meat balls are really good, do you get the ice cream in Ikea for 5 kr when you’re here in DK? Hope you had a nice birthday. Lots of love from the cold North

Hey Victoria, nice to see you here! I had a lovely birthday, thank you. :) Aw 3 weeks in France sounds amazing! But I know what you mean, after awhile you miss home food. Omg yes I love rye bread too!!! Love Danish food. And don’t worry, I LOVE cakes now, haha, I was a weird kid, I didn’t like anything sweet but now I loooove sweet stuff. :-P

We actually get the Ikea soft ice cream here too for 50c! When I go to DK I normally get Danish soft ice… simply the best! :)
