You know what I love? Hats.
I wore them a lot as a kid; from baseball caps to straw hats to crazy Joker hats, you name it. However, when I hit high school I stopped, although I don’t really know why.
Either way, I think it’s time I start wearing hats again! Last Christmas, I got my first “grown up” hat from my mom, a really cute blue fedora with a peacock feather in it from Accessorize. And recently, I was shopping at H&M with BagaholicBoy (can I just say how impressed I am with H&M? I know they came to Singapore awhile ago now but I haven’t really had the chance to really look through, but what amazing stuff) and chanced upon this classic, sophisticated hat, and I think I’ve found a great everyday hat. (I don’t care if it’s too hot for hats here!)
Wanna start wearing hats too? Here are some of my picks.
1. H&M Wool Hat: My first pick, of course, was the hat from H&M. If I can remember correctly, it was $24 which is totally reasonable. And look how cool it is! It’ll go with everything, don’t you think?
2. Shopbop Bop Basics Raffia Fedora: Shopbop is probably my favorite online shop (as recommended to me by Roseanne), and they have their own in-house brand of style basics, and I love their “Bop Basic Fedora Hat”; a casual brown hat if you’re not into black every single day.
3. Melissa Odabash Jemima Sun Hat: I can’t remember the occasion, but my friend Gloria and I were doing something in the sun (beach? swimming? sigh my memory), and she came out in a huge, floppy straw hat. It was amazing. She looked like a mysterious glamour woman; not to mention how good it is at protecting your face from the sun (she doesn’t have a single wrinkle, either). I think we all need a massive straw hat for super sunny days.
4. Eugene Kim for Stetson May Hat: And finally, because they are my favorite of all – a super classic black Fedora, but with a little bling for special occasions. Love.
Styling wise, hats are super simple: just make sure the rest of your “top area” is not as busy; because a hat is quite the statement already. Lay off the dangly earrings, blinged-out collars, layered necklaces… you can still wear those of course, but just not all at the same time. Keep your other accessories to just “one other thing” so you can let your hat remain the main star.
So whatcha think? Are you into hats or is this weather just too much for them?
