Beauty and Brains: Rachel K Cosmetics

Rachel Kum is more than just a beauty. As Miss Singapore Universe 2009, she could’ve sat back and enjoy the title, but no – she went straight to work to create her own cosmetics line, Rachel K Cosmetics.

After 2 full years or research and formulations, Rachel K was launched early this year with raving reviews from makeup artists and her fellow beauty queens. Zing, a top Hong Kong makeup artist (he has done makeup for Zhang Ziyi, Shu Qi and Faye Wong, to name a few) praises her Mineral Color Control Blemish Balm (CC Cream), saying “it brings forth the quality of real skin – dewy, fresh, elastic, with a glow.” Used with foundation or by itself, it’s a favorite for Zing because it “enhances our complexion by improving its texture and balancing skin tone.”

Beauty queens from around the globe agree. Miss Thailand, Chutima Durongdej is a huge fan of her cosmetics line, with her favorite; just like Zing, being the CC Cream. “It has good coverage and feels light”, she says, which is all we women can ever ask for! Na re, Miss Korea agrees: “[The] CC cream works wonders on my skin as it makes my complexion look smoother and brighter – and it’s long lasting.”

If that’s not enough, bloggers are getting in to the action too. Celebrity blogger Dawn Yang is said to prefer it for it’s neutral-pink shade, which “gives a fair sheen, which is what I prefer in BB Creams. I find that the color is not dull/ashy as other BB Creams I’ve tried before.” And as if we need another reason, she adds, “nor is it as oily, which is better suited to our humid climate [in Singapore]“.

OK. I know what you’re thinking. And yes – you read right, CC cream. Rachel K Comsetics has created a ‘new generation’ BB cream, which is BB cream but better. And sure, the name is catchy, and we love the idea of anything being better, but how exactly is a CC cream different to regular BB creams? Chemists in Korea did a intense report and the results say it all:

Less oily, fewer breakouts, better coverage and stability, and an overall better brightening effect? With all this promises and testimonials, I was eager to try it out. Personally, I don’t think much of BB Creams – it is such a huge craze here in Asia, so when I heard about this, it was like oh, here we go again…!

But I had to mince my words… this product is a stand out in the BB cream market. As Dawn said, the color is not like those washed out, mask-like color BB Creams are known for. It is a pink neutral, and as you can tell, blends absolutely easily into the skin, and as you can see – is invisible! It has a slight scent and feels very light on the skin, which I liked the best. I tested it out for a day and sure enough, the oil control was great.

To complete the BB Cream, there is also a Mineral Color Control BB Pressed Powder, which has Miss World 2006 Colleen Francisca singing its praises, too: “it has a unique texture because it’s very fine, feels light on the skin and gives very good coverage.” Personally, I liked the light texture the best (it is mineral makeup and is good for your skin, too!) and applied it with a fluffy brush rather than the sponge, which set the CC BB Cream beautifully without the powered-mask look.

Overall, I think Rachel Kum has made a splash in the cosmetics world already – like they say, it is the beauty queen’s choice! With two great products on the market already, I’m excited to see what else will be added to her growing makeup line. The line is available at all major Watsons stores (such as Bugis, Holland V, ION, Vivocity, Suntec City, with more expansions soon), and don’t forget to ‘Like’ Rachel K Cosmetics Facebook Page – a little birdy told me there will be a huge prize of $500 cash if you join, as well as all the latest updates and promos from Rachel K.

Have you tried Rachel K Cosmetics yet? What did you think about it?

This sounds unique but I’m not fond of the packaging. There’s just something about the design that doesn’t attract me. I don’t use foundation or bb creams either, just concealer will do the job! xx

You’re lucky! Your skin must be flawless :D I like all of these options on the market but honestly, I’m a tinted moisturizer girl and some concealer, not fussed either! xx

Oh my skin is definitely nowhere near flawless! x Just as you said, not fussed. Don’t wanna overload the skin with too much heavy coverage to result in premature-ageing! x

Have to agree with Eve, I’m not fond of the packaging either. But seeing how the bb cream is invisible on your skin, I am going to check it out. I’ve yet to find a foundation/bb cream that blends ‘naturally’ in my skin. Thank you, Renee.

It does blend amazingly into the skin, I really like that about it. So flawless! Do try it out and let me know what you think, Kat :)

Like Eve, I don’t use foundation. I pretty much go bare every day except for sunscreen and lipgloss. But, I am looking for some coverage for evening things. So, if I were to get in on Rachel K’s BB cream, should I just get the Mineral CC Cream, the pressed powder, or both? Would that be too fussy?

After reading your review and Roseanne’s review, I decided to purchase this product. This sounds really promising! I can’t wait to use it.

It makes me skin mask-white (the CC Cream) ! Aargh, I was so flabbergasted that I rushed back home to remove my makeup and do it all over again–this time only using the BB pressed powder in Medium–and it was so, so, so much better. FYI, I’m around NC25.

Hi Renee, I’ve been using Rachel K’s CC Cream and it is really awesome! The oil control is much better than Bio-essence (the only 1 i’ve tried so far since it was highly raved about..) Thanks for sharing, it is a pleasure to know that you endorse this product! Hee…

Jus wanna ask if you could do a post or if you have any suggestions for loose powders? Like which one is lightweight, and create an ‘invisible makeup’ flawless skin? :) Thanks babe!!

What are the ingredients in the cc cream? Are there any paraben or mineral oil in it?

Honestly, I don’t think its good for apply on my face. This products are terrible so far I used compared to other foundation. My skin is belongs to flawless, I have 2 bottle of CC cream but I don’t keen to waste it so I just using as concealer apply on my eyes dark circle area, I can’t accept to apply the whole face caused it looks unbalanced… I don’t know why so many people love this product. I love to research more flawless and awesome foundation, I strongly recommend Laneige BB. CC cream really cannot take it… *My opinion.*
