Beijing 101 Hair Consultants

Kich wrote to me recently asking what happened to my Beauty Tip of the Week “segment”, if you will, that I used to have here at Beauty Fool.

Can I be honest? I ran out of them! I wrote almost 200 tips and my brain is fried, I can’t think of anymore. I know a lot of you enjoyed them (I did too!) but it got a little stressful trying to think of them every week. So… how about Beauty Tip of the Month? Or should I just post tips as I think of them? Let me know your thoughts, and to start things off, Kich kindly sent in a tip for us. Now you may be wondering why there is a picture of mascara when the post title says “eyeliner”. Well, as Kich says, it’s “the best eyeliner ever”. Take it away, Kich…

Take a damp, angled brush and a cheap mascara. Wipe the mascara on the side of the tube, so that you get a bunch of that “excess” mascara there. It might sound weird, but then, dip your brush lightly into the excess and use it as eyeliner!

Kich explains that mascara makes the best liquid eyeliner or cream shadow because it “applies like a dream” and has great staying power – and Kich, I have to agree; I actually did this once! Well, kinda. I was at a sleepover and the next day I realized the only makeup I brought was a tube of mascara, and miraculously I created a full smokey eye out of it – I was quite pleased with myself! I used the tip of the mascara brush as an eye liner wand, and then smudging it all over my eyelids as eyeshadow. I have to say that the mascara was incredible in terms of staying power and it gave a real sexy, messy look. And like Kich said, it applies like a dream.

Has anyone else tried to used mascara as eyeliner? Oh, and if you have any tips or anything cool you’d like m to share on the blog, please feel free to write me! :)

UPDATE: Reader Stacey had a great idea to use this method for those who are new to liquid liner and need practice – definitely more affordable to “test” with mascara than make many mistakes with a proper liquid liner! Thanks, Stacey!

I Got Inked!

skin art temporary tattoos

OK fine… I’m kidding. I’m so lame, I’ve always wanted to say that. But anyone who knows me will know my NUMBER ONE fear in life are needles… so it’s safe to say I will never getting a tattoo. Which is fine, because now I can have Skin Art Temporary Tattoos. ;)

Skin Art is a celebrity inspired temporary tattoo set and I am SO happy to be introduced to it by PR superstar, Amy. She sent me a press release and I HAD to be shameless and ask if I could have a sample to review because as you know, I simply adore tattoos but I’m too damn chicken to get one. I’ve wanted to look for temporary tattoos, but all they have here are the kinds for little boys, aka spiderman and dragons and stuff… no thanks. Skin Art, however, brings us temporary tattoos that actually look COOL.

The set comes with 99 designs, ranging from angel wings, anchors (my favorite!!!), tribal designs, stars, hearts… just cool, little cute symbols that are so my style. As Amy explains, the point of the tatts are to “recreate celeb looks without the permanency. Fashion and beauty should be fun and allow you to try new things without the fear of scarring yourself.” Isn’t she clever?! I totally agree – these tatts are so much fun and are prefect to play around with and change up your look. ALSO, it takes less than 30 seconds to do (I’m serious) and they last a very long time. I tried on a little peace sign on my wrist about 3 weeks ago and though it’s only about 40% gone – not shabby at all. So I’d say they are perfect for 2 weeks.

In conclusion; because they are SO much fun, because they are easy to apply, because they last a long time and because they are so affordable… they get top marks in my book! Probably my best “style” find… ever. I’m seriously obsessed. You can get them at Boots, or online at Boots.com or Amazon.co.uk.

Tell me – are you into temporary tattoos? What’s your “dream” tattoo? I’ve always wanted an anchor on my ankle… and now I can get it!

At university, my favorite module was when we were studying advertising – I find them fascinating because they are SO incredibly powerful. I love the media – I work in it, studied it, been obsessed with it since I was a kid – but sometimes I really hate it. Check out this video, it’s brilliant.

Any thoughts?

(By the way, the above video is only a clip – you should definitely check out the full version. Part 1 is here and part 2 is here.)

collagen by watsons

Watsons sent over their new Collagen range and I am so overwhelmed! (In a good way… where do I begin?!) The have just released a full range (this picture isn’t even all of it!) of collagen skincare products that include everything from hand cream to night cream, to sheet masks to toners. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re at Watsons – the ingredients are from Germany and promise to moisturize the skin and revive elasticity. So far I am in love with the body lotion – my “measure” to see if a lotion is fully moisturizing is to see if I can still feel it on my skin the next day (I usually apply body lotion only at night before I sleep). Happy to report it does, and I love the calming powdery floral scent of the products. Can’t wait to try out the rest! (The masks are next on my list). Let me know if you’ve tried any of them too, and tell me what you think.

However! Perfume and nice smelling things makes scary experiences just a weeee bit better… fragrance always calm me down. Today I’m wearing Love, Chloe by Chloe, a beautiful powdery scent. I got a complimentary bottle from their lovely launch event some time back and was so excited when I did! It’s just beautiful. If you’re into a grown-up version of a baby powder scent, you must check Love, Chloe out.

What perfume are you wearing today? :)

Nails of the Moment: Red Zin

November 8, 2011

sally hansen red zin nail polish

I’m on my way to a meeting but I wanted to show you my “nails of the moment” before I leave. It’s on the other side of the island and I don’t know how to drive there, so I’ll be taking the train… and I counted, I have 17 stops! My goodness.

Anyway, I’ve never really liked red nail polish but I decided to try this one by Sally Hansen. And I gotta say, I love it! It’s a deep, blood red that looks very vampy and sexy, yet has a girly feel to it. And as always, I love me some Sally Hansen!

What’s currently on your nails? What do you think about red nail polish?

(Oh and in case you’re wondering why my ring finger looks darker, it’s cause I had navy blue polish before… I was too lazy to remove it so I just painted over it, LOL.)
