Despite what the ‘cool’ kids told you in highschool, smoking is a pretty dumb thing to do. And now, there may be actual proof that if you smoke, you may actually be dumb, too.

Apart from the health risks and the affects on your appearance, a new study shows that those with lower IQs tend to be smokers, which I’m sure is going to cause some controversy. And get this – the study shows that the heavier the smoker, the lower his or her IQ!

Dr. Mark Weiser from Sheba Medical center in Tel Hashomer Hospital in Israel conducted this study on 20,000 soilders and says, “It was really quite a straightforward study. We looked at cross-sectional data on IQ and smoking cigarettes, and looked at people’s smoking status and their IQs. It’s very clear that people with low IQs are the ones who choose to smoke.”

Probably not something you’d want to tell others about yourself, right?

What do you think of this study?

It’s that time of the week again! Whether you’re applying tinted moisturizer, liquid foundation or moisturizer, there is a tip to really get the most out of your product.

To get the most out of the dollop of product you squeezed out, instead of squeezing it onto the back of your hand, squeeze the product onto your palms. Take two fingers and really ‘mix’ the product in – the heat from your fingers will make the cosmetic more spreadable for a flawless finish, and you use less product. If, like me, you are a beast and like to slap on your makeup, rub the makeup gently between your palms and spread it all over your face. This also uses such a small amount of product it’s unbelievable – your products would last much longer!

How do you apply your products? Do you do anything special or do you just slap it on? ;)

coastal scents 88 color eyeshadow

coastal scents 88 color eyeshadow

Oh boy. Talk about dying and going to eyeshadow heaven! This palette from Coastal Scents has been quite a hit within the online beauty world, and it was only a few weeks ago that I decided to buy it and see what all the fuss is about. And I am so glad I did!

First of all, the price is amazing. You’re getting 88 shadows for about 20 bucks (!!!), so it’s already really afforable and worth the price. Yes, the colors are dime sized (how often do you finish a whole eyeshadow pot, anyway?) and there are a few ‘misses’ and chalky colors… but overall, it’s a really great palette. The lighter, matte shades are hard to show up on the skin so they aren’t too great, but the others are perfect. The colors are really pigmented and bold, and lasts on your lids. (My biggest eyeshadow pet peeve is that it disappears before dessert!)

What’s great about the 88 Color palette is that you have endless color combinations and looks to play with, which is one of the reasons I wanted to buy this palette… I’m gonna start doing some looks here on Beauty Fool! I love makeup but to be honest I haven’t been too experimental – I’ve worn eyeliner since the day I discovered it and my favorite ‘look’ is smokey eyes, which is basically black and very safe. So lookout for some tutorials. ;) (If you have any requests, let me know… there’s so many looks, I don’t know where to start!)

In the meantime, there’s not so much to say about this palette except that if you’re into color, experimenting and want something affordable, I would highly recommend this palette, I really adore it!

The lighter colors are quite hard to show up – it’s a tad too chalky for my liking, but I think it does the job if you’re looking for affordable pastel pale colors.

The bold colors are the most impressive. They are incredibly pigmented and when you think of how many pigmented colors you’re getting, this palette is incredible. And of course, the actual palette is fantastic as well. They are too beautiful NOT to have in your dressing table, don’t you think?

Have you tried the 88 Color Palette yet? What did you think of it and what are your favorite colors? I am using the last three columns the most!

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, I have been entertaining as my best friend from New Zealand has been in town, and have been getting ready for my graduation! The week seemed to pass by and I can’t believe it’s Beauty Tip of the Week time!

This beauty tip is extremely easy to do. It’s done a lot in makeup application to ‘lift’ your eyes, and doubles up as an ‘anti-aging’ makeup trick for those who want a bit of a brighter appearance around the eyes. All you have to do is apply highlighter shadow on your brow bone (right under your eyebrow).

Benefit has a product just for that called High Brow, but really, any shimmer eyeshadow can do the trick. Just apply it straight across underneath your brows, and make sure to blend – you don’t want a very unnatural line of shimmer underneath each eyebrow!

It looks like the trend of pastel colors is not leaving us anytime soon, much to my delight, because I love it! Pastel colors just make me think of princesses, innocence, cotton candy and being a little girl…. So adorable. Of course, this love might have to do with the fact I’m turning 22 in a few months and I’m completely in denial about being an adult.

Anyway, at the Balenciaga fall 2010 collection, the pastel colored hair trend went a bit down south – to the eyebrows!

I have to admit, I burst out laughing when I saw these pictures. Only because I feel sorry for the models – all the crazy stuff they have to wear. They must feel a but stupid sometimes, no? The pastel colored brows really suited the clothes, though I’m wondering if this is a ‘trend’ that will ever leave the runway. We once talked about how bleached eyebrows are a tad scary, but what about candy and pastel colored eyebrows?

I guess you know my thoughts on this one. ;) But what do you think, are pastel-colored eyebrows crazy or cool?
