Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage ConcealerLadies, sit down for this one: I have found The Best Concealer Ever. Finally, a concealer that has successfully covered up my very obvious, very deadly-looking dark eye circles: Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage.

I’ve been a big fan of Laura Mercier’s Secret Concealer, which I was told was specifically for dark eye circles. Then I wrote this post, where I was told (and wrote) that Secret Camouflage is for dark eye circles, and THEN, at the launch event at Sephora, the head makeup artist for Laura Mercier tells me that Secret Camouflage is NOT for dark eye circles, and that Secret Concealer is. WHICH ONE IS IT? I still don’t know, but I’ve used Secret and have liked it, but when I tried Secret Camouflage, oh boy.

Comparing it to Secret Concealer, which I always thought was very, very good, (but not perfect) the formula is much less creamier. I felt that with Secret Concealer, while the creamy formula is great for blending, sometimes it would creep into the fine lines and look a little oily, since it was so “liquidy”. But Secret Camouflage is a much dryer formula (reminds me of Benefit’s Boi-ing), which makes I find makes it “tougher”. It has held up for a full 14 hours (including a nap this weekend!), with no smudges, no creeping into fine lines, nothing. And best of all, it covered my dark eye circles to the best I feel a product can do – I didn’t really see any darkness around my eyes, and looking straight into the mirror, it was a very pleasant surprise to see that the two shadows underneath my eyes disappeared.

So, so good. You can buy it online here.

Wow! 4 years. I can still remember the day like it was yesterday! Beauty Fool is actually my 3rd blog, I started blogging in 2005 and for some reason closed them all down… but in 2008 I realized I really missed blogging, so one night, in the wee hours of the morning, I started Beauty Fool. And I am so happy I did! It has been such a huge blessing in my life and I thank God for it all.

Thank you so much for reading. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just stumbled upon my site today, I really appreciate your readership! There are a million other sites to visit and yet you choose to visit mine! I am very, very thankful for that.

Thanks for a wonderful 4 years… here’s to another 4? :D

x Renee

P.S. I’ve been experimenting on posting schedules and I thought I should just ask you instead! Do you prefer longer, more in-depth posts every few days, or would you like something daily (short posts, long posts, just a general mix)? Let me know!

I am quite the beauty-disaster, aren’t I?

After my past experiences of the glycolic acid burn and my digital perm, I’ve kinda cooled down on all these beauty “procedures” because they’ve all been total nightmares. In other word, I’ve learnt my lesson and to not “toy” with how I look. However, there is one more beauty “nightmare” I experienced back in high school that I reminded of recently and forgot to mention on the blog. So today, I wanted to tell (and warn) you about my very last beauty inconvenience (not so much a nightmare this time): eyelash perming.

So, the story: My beauty-loving best friend and I were at a mall and passed one of those “beauty houses”. It looked a little sketchy, but we were drawn to the big poster at the front claiming a procedure called “eyelash perming” and promised perfectly curled, longer looking lashes. (As some of you may know, Asian lashes tend to be straight rather than curled, and as a half-Asian, my lashes seemed to follow the half/half-ness: the lashes on my left eye are stick-straight, but the lashes on my right eye has are curled. Talk about annoying!)

Anyway; long story short, my best friend and I signed up and a week later, we were both in the room, hoping for longer-looking, curled lashes.

I’ve always been a bit scared of blush: how do you apply it so you don’t look like a clown? Do we really need it? For years, I’d be doing my makeup and opting for bronzers rather than blush, but in the recent months I’ve tried it out… and it makes a difference. A huge one, especially for days you don’t necessarily want to wear makeup, but need a little perk-me-up! So today I thought I’d write a super-quick guide to finding the perfect blush shade to suit your skin tone.

  • Fair skin: If you have yellow undertones, peachy blushes look amazing; since it too is in the “warm” color family. Complexions with cool, bluish undertones look best in soft pinks.
  • Medium skin: Use a deep golden pink shade for a subtle day look and pump it with a vibrant rose gold or apricot blush for night.
  • Dark skin: You need colors that will pop against your skin, so look out for plum colors… and if you dare, bright fuchsia would look great.

What blush colors do you use? I tried some pinks but I’m not loving it – peach/brownish shades are more my thing, since I have yellow undertones in my skin.

As some of you might know (or have noticed!) I am not really a “fashion” girl… I really don’t know much about dressing myself! However, I’ve been getting a little more interested in fashion recently and wanted to learn more. I have so many inspirations and ideas, but I wasn’t sure where to start or even how to “translate” it into my own personal style.

So I looked around and did a little research and picked up Lauren Conrad’s book, Lauren Conrad Style. I don’t know her TV career too well but I know of her clothing line, Paper Crown, and her amazing personal style. I really love her carefree, casual – and totally classy – style, so I was excited to read her book.

In a nutshell? Love this. What a great book! I am a total newbie in fashion so a lot of her fashion tips were great. Not only general tips such as how to find a perfect pair of jeans, the perfect white tee and her style essentials, she also gives fashion tips for those going on travel, vacation, work, school… and I especially loved her section on how to take a good photograph.
