Just a quick note to say that the article from I-S, ‘Beauty and the Blog‘ has been uploaded onto Yahoo! News Singapore! It’s so cool to have a brand new audience, so I just wanted to say hello to any new readers, and a big welcome. :)

Today I’d like to share something, perhaps it’s a little TMI… but here goes!

Sometime early this year, I got some very strange things going on with my body, and the sudden surge in acne, weight, mood swings (and lack of a monthly visitor, and no, it wasn’t ‘cause I was pregnant), which made me run to the doctor immediately, where I was diagnosed with PCOS.

It was heartbreaking, to say the least. A lot of women with PCOS actually start to suffer from depression because of the symptoms…  which I totally understand. Tell me, what woman would want such an extreme change in their appearance and unbelievable mood swings?! (And yes, that sudden purge of acne did result in that nasty glycolic acid nightmare of mine.) In some worse cases than mine, my doctor said some woman actually grow beards and develop male balding because of the hormonal imbalance! I really thank God that after a few months of observation and scans, it was just a PCOS scare. I didn’t have it in the end, scans show I was free of cysts. Praise God. I do, however, have a hormonal imbalance/some insulin resistance thingy that is slowly coming under control. However, there’s one thing that I am really not happy about: my weight.

Imagine waking up one morning and releasing you put on 4 kgs. I don’t weight myself, but I woke up and couldn’t fit into my favorite jeans, so I quickly ran to my parent’s scale in their bathroom. I realized that from the year before I weighed myself, I had put on 4 kg. Hmm, I think. Maybe I’m growing up and my metabolism is slowing down – no biggie. Then fast forward to almost 2 months, and it’s 12 kgs. I’d look in the mirror and my face looked bloated. I couldn’t understand it – I put on 12 kgs (26 lbs) doing absolutely nothing.

Announcement time! Just a quick post to let you know what’s up with me and the future of Beauty Fool.

First and foremost, I have left my job as the beauty writer for that magazine some time ago. There’s not much to say about it, but I believe that life is way too short to be unhappy, and if you are, you should make changes.

That being said… I’m back, baby! ;) I’m so happy. I don’t think anyone could understand but I think I’m literally obsessed with this site. Did you know for the first few months of the site, I was working on for up to 15 hours a day?! Madness, I tell you. But it doesn’t feel like ‘work’ when you’re having a blast and doing what you love!

Anyways, what I’m trying to say is that I’m gonna give it a go… the blog and this industry, I mean. I always said my dream was magazines, which, if you work hard enough is generally attainable… but my beyond wildest / impossible / never-gonna-happen dream is to live off my blog. I know some people do it, but I live in Singapore – it almost seems impossible. BUT I am gonna try. That way, I’ll have no regrets – if I fail, at least I know I tried.

My plan right now is to do freelance writing and see what’s out there in this very new industry. So apart from freelance gigs (God willing!), the rest of the time I’ll work on Beauty Fool. More content, more interaction, more giveaways, more of everything. I hope you’ll join me! Right now my biggest motivator is knowing you all support me. I can’t thank you enough for your kind words. Again, I’m gonna share my journey with you – you are a part of Beauty Fool whether you like it or not! ;)

Thank you so much for everything and let’s move forward! <3 I’d also really appreciate if you could tell me what you would like to make Beauty Fool better…

  • What are your favorite type of posts?
  • What would you change about Beauty Fool?
  • What do you want more of?

I’m thinking of maybe doing some outfit posts, makeup looks and vlogs – yay or nay? Please tell me everything you’d like to see here. :)

One of my ultimate beauty pet peeves are over plucked eyebrows, but unfortunately, as we age, we will start to lose our eyebrow from the outside in. This creates sparse looking, shorter brows, so keep this in mind when that horrifying day comes: The longer the brow, the younger and more youthful – and fresh! – you’ll look. Pencils work best for a more intense look, but if you want to keep it natural, apply some brow powder. Just remember to elongate your brows rather than fill them in.

How do you fill in your brows? Oh, can we please talk about this model, she who has the perfect brows and the cutest freckles? Who is this stunning woman?!

Do you wear glasses? I do. Unfortunately I was one very dumb 9 year old, because when my older friend got glasses, I would play around and wear them, just to see what they were like. Fast forward a few months later and my eyesight suffered from it, and needed glasses. Very dumb of me.

I was very self conscious about wearing glasses, because I was one of the few at school who wore them, because 9 years old is quite young to start wearing glasses. You can bet I got a lot of teasing from it, so I really hated them. It also didn’t help that it was the 90′s and those nasty Coke bottles frames my only option. Eeks! I got contacts and have been wearing them since I was 13 (again, too young, I know) and I was SO happy – I felt like myself again!

Today, I’m totally fine with wearing my glasses. I finally got over being self conscious about them when I was around 18 years old. I’m not sure when I got over them, but I just realized that tons of people wear glasses and it’s really no big deal. I am also sure the fact that my glasses were no longer big Coke-bottle frames helped! Also, the few times my friends did see me in them, they all said such nice things – for example, on the very last day of university I wore my glasses (I just couldn’t be bothered, school was over forever!!!) and a few guys commented on how sexy glasses are on girls. I couldn’t believe it! I still obviously prefer not to wear glasses, but I’m OK with them now and am not shy to wear them out and let everyone know I wear glasses.

Do you wear glasses? Have you ever felt self-concious about them? If you still feel self-concious about them, please don’t be! They are so trendy and sexy, try to embrace them and see it as an extra accessory you can sport. ;)
