Ladies, I hope you’re ready for all my broken French!

Lollipops Paris, un magasin de vetements en France (“a clothing shop in France”… I think), has recently developed a makeup line, and I am a smitten kitten! This little 3D eyeshadow box was given to me from Watsons (where you can buy it) and it’s killing me with it’s cuteness.

C’est mignon, non?! The eyeshadow palette opens up to a chic woman roaming around the city with her cat and a pink tree. I am so in love with it, I have kept the box permanently opened and left it on my desk!

vintage pink typewriter

Hey everyone, happy Friday! Just a quick note today. It’s been 3 months since I’ve moved to the new .com domain and suffice to say it has gone fairly smooth. :) Just so everyone is clear, here are all the “updated” info for Beauty Fool, whatever you are still on, feel free to delete/unsubcribe, these are the true ones:

Yep, I have secured all the “beautyfool” usernames so it’s super easy to remember! Anything that ISN’T “beautyfool” is not me!

So far I think the one that most of you are not aware of is the new Facebook page. Please come and join us! I’ll be deleting the old one soon and would hate to lose you! I have also decided that for every 500 count this year, I’ll hold a “mystery box” giveaway for a Facebook fan to win. I am quite inspired by all these beauty sampling box services, but of course mine will be full sized products and you will most definitely be getting more than a couple of products in a box! So please invite your friends to the page, too!

Thank you for sticking by me, I really appreciate it. ♥ I know it’s a hassle to “move” and nobody really likes change (especially me haha), but it’s all done now, and will stay that way forever! I hope you are all enjoying to the new .com. :)

Also I would like to take this opportunity with this blog post for you to send in your feedback about Beauty Fool – is there anything you are wanting more/less of? Please let me know. Two of my goals for 2012 is to start a YouTube channel and to post more frequently… but if you think I should add more to the list, please tell me! :)

new to applying makeup

Image: Melissa Overgaard

Khansa from Jarkata, Indonesia asked me this question and I thought I should write a post on it – maybe a few of you are new to makeup and want to try it out this new year too!

Dear Renee,

You’ll probably think I’m a late starter because I’ll be 17 this year and yet I don’t know a single thing about makeup. Which is why I decided to write an email about this.

I’ve never used makeup. I occasionally use face powder but that happens very rarely.

This year though, I want to start using makeup but I have no idea where to start. Should I buy a good foundation or powder? What would you suggest? Where should I start?

Hey Khansa,

Oh no, 17 is not late at all! Whenever you feel you are ready to wear makeup – that’s the best age. :)

OK. So makeup is pretty simple, it’s broken down to the following parts:

  • Face: Coverage makeup such as foundation, concealer, powders, BB Creams, etc.
  • Eyes: Products such as eyeliner, eyeshadow, eyebrow pencils, mascara
  • Lips: Lipgloss, lipstick, lip stains, etc
  • Cheeks: Blush, bronzer, highlighters, etc.

For a beginner I think you really only need the very basics. I mean, can you imagine one day not wearing any makeup, and then the next day you have a full face on? Yikes! What I did when I first started wearing it was to slowly start trying each product, seeing what I liked, and then took it from there. So for my answer and tips, I’m gonna go in the “order” I started makeup with.

Eyes

mascaras

I started with eye makeup because that seemed to be the most “exciting”! Well, at least it was for me – I remember I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some eyeliner! However, eyeliner may be too much right at the beginning, so for the eyes, you can start off with mascara (as I did!). My first mascara ever was from MAC, but if that’s out of your price range, I love the mascaras from The Body Shop and Bourjois as well. For tips on how to apply mascara, check out my posts, Simple Mascara Tricks.

Only if you want, then just grab some eyeshadow and eyeliner for more “special” occasions. If you really want to go all out and experiment with eye makeup (it is the most fun, in my opinion!) some products I really love that you can check out are listed here.

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2012

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! ♥

What a year it has been!!! Hmm… I think I overdo the party decorations every year LOL. I’m gonna be 24 years old this year, someone please slap me. I can’t believe I started Beauty Fool when I was a 19 year old college student, and now I’m a mid-twenties working woman. Sheesh! Will 2012 be the year they invent a time machine? I hope so!

Some of my blog/personal highlights in 2011 were being on the cover of URBAN, my first time hosting an event, saying a big GOOD RIDDANCE to PCOS, (apart from a few slip-ups, I have been very disciplined with my health and fitness regime); getting a mention in Harper’s Bazaar and continually wanted to pinch myself; turning the big 2-3; my ”first” time filming (that was a complete bust as it went straight to the digital trash can, but I had so much fun); the 1 year anniversary of getting my ball of terror, Bailey; my first “speaking engagement” at Unilever – super nervous! Will write about that soon; and getting a job that I love with a team that I love!

Overall, it’s been a great year! I thank God for such an amazing year. Thank you for being a part of it. :)

What were some of your highlights of 2011? Wishing you all a great 2012 full of health and happiness – I can’t wait to see what 2012 brings us!

x Renee

Nooo! It’s the end of 2011. Next year it the end of the world as we know it!

Just kidding. If the world were ending though, I’d be quite happy, beauty-wise – I found some real gems this year. Though I probably have more on this list, here are the ones I’ve been using regularly, and will continue to repurchase (ah “repurchasing”; the true sign you love a product!)

Here they are…

Clarins UV Plus HP Sunscreen – A fantastic product that I’ve been applying daily (um, I mean when I can remember). The formula is non sticky, non greasy… it is almost impossible to think of this as a sunscreen, which is perfect! I hate how thick and greasy most sunscreens feel. My full review is here.

Clinique Chubby Sticks – These little chubby sticks are THE best. I got a sample of it from my friend Yasmin when I first tried it, and loved it so much I went out and bought another THREE for myself and one for Mommy Dearest. They are so moisturizing and give a really pretty hint of color. Full review is here.

MAC blush in Sincere – MAC still makes the best blushes around. I picked this up some time ago after the MAC Beauty Workshop and I love this color – it’s different from my usual bronzers (I don’t like blush normally!) and is a mix of tan/peachy color that I love.

LUSH Vanillary Solid Perfume - it’s LUSH. Need I say more? Check out my raving review here.

Aesop - Not particularly any product, but the brand itself is a new fave – my favorite discovery of the year! I am eagerly awaiting checking out their full store. From the two products that I tried, I  am really intrigued by this brand.

Bobbi Brown BB Cream – Cannot rave about this enough. It is fantastic. Out of all the BB Creams I’ve tried (like this one, this one and this one), Bobbie Brown’s wins hands down. Full review is here.

Taking Care of the Girls

December 28, 2011

how to take care of breasts bra

Image: Unknown

Agata asked this question recently, and to be honest I have been completely stuck on how to answer. You see, it’s a really important topic, but what the heck would I know? I’m no doctor!

Recently I spoke with a friend of mine about how we can take care of our breasts and maintain them. So maybe this could be an idea for a next post?

So just a disclaimer: I am no expert on the topic, so if there are any concerns, you should always consult a medical professional. However, here are some of my tips of what I do to take care of them:

Moisturize after each shower

Moisturizing helps with the skin’s elasticity. Soft, supple skin are less dry, and dry skin leads to scaly looking skin, and eventual can form wrinkles. Wrinkles on your boobies? Heck no!

Recently in the beauty industry there seems to be an influx of “breast” lotions claiming all sorts of BS, such as preventing sagginess, wrinkles, and keeping your breasts looking firm and young looking. Some even claim to bring up a cup size. Seriously, do these people think we are stupid? Don’t buy into it. Just like eye creams, I think this is a big scam – your regular body moisturizer is enough.

Lush Vanillary Solid Perfume

Finally! I got my grubby little hands on something from LUSH!

As I mentioned earlier, my best friend Di is in town from New Zealand and that cheeky little bigger read that I’ve been dying to try LUSH, and knows that I love anything vanilla-scented, and so got me the perfect Christmas gift. Little did she know that THIS exact product, Vanillary perfume, was the first thing on my list for when I go to new LUSH store (sadly I still haven’t gone yet!). Either way, I was all AHHH!!! when I opened my gift – totally what I wanted! (I guess that’s why she’s my BFF, eh?)

Di said she got me the solid version since it seemed interesting (she’s not really “beauty crazy” like me or my other best friend, Christine), but she has amazing taste! It is my first solid perfume and I’m very glad that it works just like any old spray version: the scent lasts well for a few hours, and the areas where I applied the perfume dried instantly, so my skin didn’t feel sticky (my first fear).

The other reason I’m in love? The scent itself! It smells delicious – more to the sweet, cookie side than the normal warm vanilla scents I have, so this is a great change from that. I received it on the 24th (Denmark – and most of Europe it seems – open gifts on the 24th) so I wore it to a Christmas lunch on the 25th and I wanted to eat my own arm! It smells SO delicious.

So because of that, the amazing staying power and the convenience of the bottle (seriously, how easy are touch ups now?!), my first LUSH product is a whopping success and it gets 5 equally delicious donuts. Yum!!! I can’t wait to try more!

Have you tried Vanillary from LUSH yet? What do you think? And what do you think about solid perfumes?
