Nuts About LOVE Coconut

November 7, 2011

honore des pres love coconut perfume

Good morning! Isn’t it lovely out today? I’ve started my morning sitting at my balcony with this pretty cup of coffee…

Just kidding. You all know I hate coffee! This cute ‘coffee’ cup is actually part of Bud Cosmetics organic fragrance range, Honore des Pres. At first I was puzzled as to what organic fragrances were (in fact, I didn’t even know they existed!) but these organic fragrances contain no synthetic fragrances, no colorants and no phtalants, and best of all, is certified by ECOCERT. Cool, no? What’s even more spectacular is that the fragrances were created by Olivia Giacobetti, who is one of tthe top 5 perfumers in the world (she has created many of Diptyque’s best selling scents).

My favorite of the range is Love Coconut. As some of you may know – I love anything that smells like vanilla or coconut, no question about it! They are my favorite scents. However, this coconut is not the usual warm scent that is coconut – Love Coconut has a tangy, sharp open note of coriander which I thought was really different, but liked very much. (I suppose if it just smelled like the ‘usual’ coconut, anyone can get it anywhere and this scent wouldn’t be special!) Other notes include milk coconut, white cedar, and my other favorite scent, vanilla.

Anywho, let’s bring in the donuts (how fitting with the coffee!)…

4 donuts! It is almost a perfect 5 but I took one point off because it doesn’t last too long (4 hours or so) and is slightly on the expensive side. (A 50ml bottle is $190, available at Bud Cosmetics at Mandarian Gallery.) Still, I adore this scent – I think what sold it for me was the slightly ‘different’ opening scent. As Bud Cosmetics says, it’s “the unconventional coconut fragrance!”

Have you tried Bud Cosmetics’ new organic fragrance range? What did you think?

beauty fool beauty blog

It’s here, the new site! Check out my “planning” process above – there was so much to do! I am so, so excited it’s finally here. When I went online to see if “beautyfool.com” was taken almost 4 years ago, I was so bummed that I had to settle for “.net” instead. Well, 2 weeks and half my savings later (exaggeration, but it feels like it), I have bought over my dream URL: beautyfool.com! So welcome! There’s still a few tweaks and surprises in store but for now I hope that you will help me out with updating your links (if you’ve linked to me, that is, haha). Also, just to let you know that if you are an RSS Feed or an Email subscriber, there are new links that unfortunately, you will have to re-subscribe. Sorry for the hassle but I promise it will only take a few minutes! The new RSS Feed link is here, and to subscribe to updates sent to your email, click here. That’s it! The rest of my links are the same.

That being said, for the new site I want it to be “Renee’s blog”. Some of you may have noticed that before I made the switch, I hardly posted for a few months, and the truth is that after awhile, I got so fed up with blogging only beauty and makeup stuff. And then I felt even worse when people started complaining/writing not so nice stuff. So yeah, not fun. But I’m not gonna let others dictate my blog anymore, and I (obviously) have more interests in life than makeup, so expect it to be like a beauty + lifestyle + personal blog. I hope you’ll still stick around, but I understand if you don’t. Also, if there are any topics you want or suggestions to make the blog better, please let me know!

Anyway, I should stop rambling. Welcome to the brand new Beauty Fool DOT COM!

budget beauty seventeen magazine

Oh my… this post is ridiculously late. I just realized I never told you all about my mini feature in Seventeen in July, where I talked about where I got my beauty “deals”. I am very honored to be in one of my favorite magazines, thank you Felicia! :)

However, if I could do the interview again I would definitely add in Watsons now, though. When I said Sasa it was mostly because I could get Clinique skincare products at about 30% off the department store price. And since I was there every few months to stock up, I’d find these little beauty bargains and impulse buy as well. However they stop selling Clinique so I haven’t been there in awhile, and as you all know my new go-to place is Watsons… I am especially impressed by all their organics range. Sasa I still love you, but please bring back Clinique!

One Year Ago Today…

October 30, 2011

Guess what day it is today? It’s a special day – it’s been exactly one year since we first got Bailey! This is one of the very first photos I took of her. Oh, and we got her a day before Halloween, which kinda explains everything ’cause our lives have been a nightmare since she came… KIDDING. Just the first few weeks. Omg, the stories I can tell. I was convinced she was trying to kill us.

Thankfully, things got better. I love you so much, you little rascal!

Did I ever tell you within the first few months, she jumped on me and scratched my cornea?! Ah! I was so mad I didn’t “speak” to her for a day!

In this industry, things are never certain until you see the final product. I remember back in highschool when I was modeling, I was the “face” of a clothing campaign and I was beyond excited! I told all my friends and couldn’t wait. Of course, the boss didn’t like the direction it was going, so the campaign we spent so long shooting was axed at the last minute. I was devastated!

So it was no surprise when I was shooting a makeup video for MAC, featured at TANGS. It was a video about the Semi Precious MAC makeup collection and I was not only the model for it but also got to speak quite a bit. Unfortunately, it was only after filming that I was told the sound wasn’t clear enough, and since summer was practically over, they decided not to reshoot and that was that. STILL, once again, a lesson learnt – or rather, I realized something: it ain’t so bad talking on camera! It was my very first time and I had a lot of fun. I suppose now that I’ve done it, I am not THAT shy to speak on camera anymore. (When I first started blogging I was SO shy and scared to put up a photo of myself on the Internet, but once I started I got more comfortable with it.) So I suppose you’ll be seeing some video blogs soon!

Anyway, here are some behind the scene photos of the makeup shoot, sorry you won’t be able to see the final video. They asked last week if I could do their next video but I sadly couldn’t make it because of work. :( Maybe next time!

High School

October 15, 2011

Recently I had to bring in all my necessary education documents for something concerning some work, and OMG my GCSEs (Grade 10) results are atrocious. I totally forgot about them! My grades went something like: English A+, Music A, and the rest were Cs and Ds. Lucky for me that English grade saved me and got me into a certificate course, and those grades were good enough to get me into a diploma course, and then those grades were good enough for college, phew! In other words, I dropped out of high school and had to work my way up to go to college.

Anyway, the point of this post is yes, I survived my first week of work (only 40 more years ’til retirement!!!) but most importantly, I want to say that failing/doing bad at high school is really NOT the end of the world. No, I am not saying to drop out like I did, but if you had problems (like I did) there are other options.

I felt like a total failure after dropping out of high school but it seriously was the best thing I ever did. By the middle of 11th grade I was a total mess (I had depression amongst other things) and barely turned up to any of my classes, and my grades got even worse. So after 2.5 years of misery I just stopped going. (That’s why the only grades I can show are my GCSEs, I never took A Levels.) But my lack of high school diploma has not hindered any job opportunities. Again, I am NOT saying to quit high school (no hate comments please), but I am just saying that if you can’t handle it, you shouldn’t just “hang in there” and be miserable – there are plenty of other options for education, just research!

OK I’ll get off my soap box now… happy weekend!

Spent what would’ve been my prom and graduation week (June 2007) touring Italy! ;)
