Overloaded On Blush? Try This Quick Tip

April 8, 2010

Unless you’re auditioning for the part of Bozo the Clown; bright, overdone blush is always a no-no. However, I know the feeling of enjoying the fluffy brush on your skin… it feels so soft and nice, and then before you know it – bam! – blush is everywhere and your face looks ridiculous.

While reaching for the makeup remover might be the logical thing to do, try not to. Removing your blush with makeup remover will cause a streaky mess; not to mention it will also remove your foundation, so you’ll have to pretty much redo all your makeup again. Lazy girls, rejoice! You can easily soften your blush in two quick, easy steps. All you have to do is grab a cotton ball and some loose powder. I say cottonball as opposed to tissue, because tissue is a bit harsh and doesn’t look as natural in the end.

Once you’ve gotten what you need, gently sweep the cottonball across your blush in a circular motion, and it will carefully pick up some of your blush. When your blush is at it’s desired ‘effect’, grab a fluffy brush and apply one quick layer of loose powder on top of your cheeks. Voila – clown blush is gone!

What do you think of this tip? It’s personally helped me TONS, because in the beginning I was much too blush-happy. How do you remover overdone blush, or better yet: how do you prevent wearing too much blush? (P.S. So glad to be back blogging!)

Removing all of it is such a pain.
My bathroom is really hard to get my blush even (there’s a window that lets in natural light). I have natural light on my right side, but my left side has just my vanity lights, so one side always looks darker then the other (eye shadows as well!).
I usually use the clinique highlighting stuff, then barely tap my blush brush on the palette and then use it, it’s my only safe bet.

Thanks, Hali! :) Really glad to be feeling better too. Being sick is no fun!

I can totally relate about your bathroom, seems like mine does the exact same thing! Natural light is the best, but it seems you have a good “system” going on, haha! Don’t you just hate vanity lights, though?! They make everything look a little ‘off’. :-P

I have very pale skin so I often risk the clown look when I wear blushes, esp pigmented ones. When that happens, I usually apply some powder or foundation on top but I had never though of using a cotton ball first. I’ll try that next time, thanks.

You’re back!!! ~happy dance~ =D
I love blush. And I agree that trying to remove it with a makeup remover can be a pain (found that out first hand).
Another way to ton down that over-blushed cheek is to buff your cheeks with a clean dense brush, like a kabuki brush. It works like a miracle. =) It softens out the blush and saves the day. LOL.

Aw, happy to be back! *Joins in happy dance but cannot dance to save my life, so fails miserably* :-P

That’s a good idea too! Never thought of that. I need to get myself a kabuki brush, they are so cute.

Renee, you need a kabuki in your life. Not want, need! It blends everything perfectly.
I usually put on a little bit too much blush and then buff it out with my kabuki (+ face powder). Works like a charm!

i try to start off with a light shade of blush to begin with and i find holding the brush closer to the end helps to apply it lighter :D

Hey C! :) Oh that’s a good one; holding the brush at the end. I never thought of that one either! Did you start doing that after trial and error? :D The best makeup tips come after trying everything that works for you!

Welcome back! This is what I do, in case I ever apply too much blush. I only put on my foundation, and then my blush. If it looks too much, then I take the brush I used for my foundations and buff my cheeks out until they look natural again. (I do not apply more foundations.) Sometimes I buff with a clean brush too.

Hey Mika Chan! :) Thanks, so glad to be back! Sounds like a good plan there; to “correct” your blush before the layer of loose powder! :)

Try lightly rubbing a bit of lotion over the area and take the leftover powder/foundation from your brush and lightly brush over your face. Key point: do everything LIGHTLY. :)
