Welcome to the inside of my trash can!
I had a long day of work and had an event after (that was lovely, will write about it soon), so now I am just relaxing in my bedroom before passing out. My usual ‘routine’ of relaxing at home on nights I don’t go out is normally some mindless reality TV (don’t laugh, you love it too!) but tonight I decided that my makeup box (a box I keep of old makeup I bought, samples, GVPs, etc) needed a good spring cleaning.
I’m always a little sad to throw stuff away (hoarding tendencies?) but most of them are so nasty, and I swear I spotted something I bought almost 5 years ago (!!!). Gross. However… throwing out old stuff means there’s more room for new.
How often do you go through and spring clean your makeup collection?

Hahahaa… I am also guilty of hoarding. I’ve not done any spring cleaning at all. And I love love love mascaras. Each time I see a new one, I will buy and will neglect the others.
Thus, I end up buying more makeup instead of discarding the old ones.
I am starting to become a bit of a hoarder with mascaras too! I’d get new ones and forget about the rest, just like you said
Hahah I do the same thing with mascaras! I have three different ones in my “currently using” makeup bag at the moment haha (BadGal Lash by Benefit, Voluminous by L’Oreal, and DiorShow Backstage by Dior). I try to cycle through them every day and use them all evenly. This is probably not a good system though, cuz I’m sure they’ll become old before I have a chance to finish them
I hate throwing away makeup! It’s like tossing cash into the trash. I try to get the most out of it, and restrain myself from buying new stuff… oh it’s so difficult!!!!

It is like tossing cash isn’t it?! ‘Cause makeup now a days is so expensive! Also because they looks so pretty, too pretty to be thrown away haha. I’m a sucker for packaging!
I go through my stash every few months and when I see something good that I don’t use much (I have too much stuff too so I’ll never be able to finish everything myself), I give it away to friends and family. That way, someone will use it before it expires and I won’t have thrown too much money away.
That’s great, Gio! I’d hate for stuff to be wasted so I think what you’re doing is great.
Hey!
I did this just this week actually… and reorganised everything so all my makeup/beauty-related items are all displayed nicely and systematically. It is hard to throw away old makeup, but I’m getting better at it.. just thinking of their shelf-life and more reason to buy more makes it so much easier
I had quite a few old mascaras and I felt guilty throwing them all out, so I just took out the brush handle, gave it a good clean and use it as a lash brush now. Money saved!
Oh wow! That’s awesome recycling the brushes. I tried doing it once cause I liked one mascara brush and another formula… and I think I made the perfect mascara (well, almost haha) but it’s quite a hassle cleaning the brush, no? They really catch so much product!
I’ve recently binned A LOT of unused/unsuitable/incompatible skincare and makeup, some used only a few times, for spring cleaning!
It really breaks my heart- I love some of their packaging, and it feels like throwing money away too haha. Still, no point cluttering up space that can be used for other stuff, though! (Like more skincare and makeup! Hahaha!)
Is that BUXOM lip plumper I spy? My favorite!!!! Always a must-have in my makeup bag:)
My favorites are Sugar & Bambi.
Which color do you use?
Much love

Funny that I read this post today because just last night I decided to throw away old makeup I’m not using anymore, mainly mascaras. It’s easier for me to throw mascaras away since they smell after a few months, but I feel guilty throwing other products away since I’d feel like I’m wasting money!
Yeah I find it hard to bin old makeup that was hardly used or not used at all, but I figure if you do not touch something for six months, it means you can do without it and obviously you don’t love it at all. I did a huge spring clean of my powder room as well
looks like it’s a common January “detox” on all fronts.
Hey Renee,
Next time, do keep a few for the April Tangs recycling program when they give $5 vouchers for every makeup item recycled.
