Do you follow fashion or beauty trends? I suppose I’m very aware of them since I’m a big consumer of media, but I personally don’t. It’s more if I see something I like then I’ll catch on to it, rather than follow each season. But there has been a HUGE trend recently for the past year or so, that I’ve completely jumped on, and that is the ombre trend.
“Ombre” basically means the gradient color technique; where something is shaded in tone with a color graduating from light to dark (or vice versa). It started some time back with ombre hair, thanks to the amazing Alexa Chung, and slowly color started merging with another trend, color blocking. Soon after the dip-dye hair color trend came… and exploded into my personal favorite, the ombre… everything! I have found the ombre trend everywhere, from fashion, beauty, accessories and even things for the home! Here are some I’ve found.
On the beauty front, as mentioned, there is the ombre hair trend, and my new favorite, ombre nails! What you can do is color each nail a different shade of one color, or you can do individual ombre shades on each nail. How gorgeous is the black and blue ombre nails, above right?. I’ll be trying it soon and posting a tutorial right after.
If ombre lips are too intimidating for you, instead, apply one shade on your upper lip, and then a deeper color on your bottom lip – super easy, and super cute.
Fashion-wise, I am SO in love with ombre tops… I must find some ASAP! From shirts, to tees, to maxi dresses, maxi skirts, everyone is getting into the ombre trend. (And trust me, this picture doesn’t do it justice – I found everything from socks, to leggings – and jeggings – to power suits in bold, bright ombre gradient shades.) An ombre piece in your outfit is a great way to add a bit of color to your outfit, but keep it to one piece only – you can definitely go overboard on this trend.
Accessories are slow to get into the ombre trend, but it’s definitely beginning.
You see that Diesel bag above? I loved it so much I ordered it immediately (although it was very complicated since they don’t ship to Singapore), and as we speak it is on the way to my grubby little ombre-obsessed hands… I can’t wait! (Of course, I can’t bear a pink handbag, so I am getting a black/gray ombre one). I hope they make more ombre handbags, I find them so interesting; what a great way to spice up a simple outfit!
For home and living items, it seemed the popular choice for ombre were shades of purple, blue and turquoise, which I understand – they are such soothing, relaxing colors. My favorite are the ombre pillows and bedding, and… that cake! I need me some ombre cake.
What do you think about the ombre trend? Love it, hate it, or just plain over it? I think it’s safe to say it is EVERYWHERE now, we can’t escape it. I’m not complaining, though. ;) I think my favorite ombre gradient shades are gray to black, and those gorgeous turquoises… what about you? And if you have anything ombre to show, please add a link, I would love to see them.
