Ah, the famous Moroccan Oil. Everywhere I look, it seems this little bottle of argan oil “magic” is being featured. But what exactly is Morroncan Oil?
A powerful antioxidant and UV protector, MoroccanOil’s proprietary Argan oil blend is rich in vitamins and natural elements that fortify the hair, including Vitamin F (Omega 6), Vitamin A to improve elasticity, Vitamin E to protect against free-radicals, and Phenols to shield against environmental stressors.
As if that’s not enough, tons of celebs (who all have GORGEOUS hair) are singing their praises. Par exemple:
- “MoroccanOil is my go-to hair product.” – Lauren Conrad
- “MoroccanOil has transformed my hair. I’m always getting it blow-dried and it gets crispy on the ends. But I get out of the shower, put this on and it makes my hair so silky.” – Jessica Biel
- “MoroccanOil has truly changes the condition of my hair. I use it after each wash. – Diane Kruger
- “Every night after a show I take out my extensions, soak my hair in MoroccanOil, and put it in a bun on the top of my head.” – Fergie
- “I carry a mini bottle of [MoroccanOil] to freshen up my hair and tame frizzies on the go. It’s life-changing.” – Rachel Zoe
OK, I could go on, but one thing’s for sure – MorrocanOil has a powerhouse of a PR team! It’s also said that everyone from Katy Perry, Angelina Jolie, Hilary Swank, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Hilary Duff (who used it on her wedding day) all use this special hair treatment. It’s also sworn by top hairstylists and used in photo shoots in all the best magazines.
So I want to ask – have you tried it out? What did you think of it? I’m thisclose to ordering myself a bottle, but I wanted to ask for your opinions before I take the plunge. Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: Just found out that it’s being sold on Amazon, yay!

It’s spelled par example.
J’aime ton blog
Merci beacoup! Je parle francais tres mauvais! (Or at least I think that’s how you say it!)
It has never been spelled par example, Renee you were right, it ‘s par exemple, trust me i’m French.
Actually, par exemple is right
hmmm, and ironically it’s “spelt” not spelled!
i cant say enough wonderful things about moroccan oil! i LOVE LOVE LOVE it! i have the oil, a mini bottle that i carry in my purse, the shampoo, the conditioner and the mask and i will never stray from that line. the oil itself is amazing, even before i bought the rest of the line i loved it, i find it really has made a big impact in my hair, my hair is naturally curly and i blow it out after every shower, i find that when i use the oil my hair dries faster, smoother and straighter, and it’s great for touch ups throughout the day, it really tames my frizzies. i also like to apply a nickle size to my entire head after my hair is dry to really give it smoothness and sheen and not to mention, it smells amazing. i know you wont regret buying it. its wonderful
Hey Shelby! Someone below also commented that it makes your hair dry faster… I wonder if that is a “good” thing, though? Could it be ’cause of all the other added ingredients? I still really want to try it!
I haven’t tried it but am really curious about it too because of all the hype. I have thin, limp hair now so I’m not sure how much it would help my hair, although I do still have a lot of frizz. Let us know if you do end up trying it!
I sure will, Jeni!
I love it! it really does transform the hair from dry and brittle to supple, shiny, and bouncy. It adds strength and really tames frizz. I have course hair that’s full of extra volume so i need to keep it inline, but hate wearing a ton of products, yuck. That is why I love that this is natural, doesn’t weigh my hair down or make it seems or feel oily since it is absorbed into the cuticle. This is the only thing my hair needs after washing it. And it does smell amazing! You’ll love it
Thanks Arleene for your review! It sounds really good but from other comments, it seems this product is not natural; Argan Oil is an ingredient and it’s full of silicones :/ It does sound wonderful though…
BTW your picture is beautiful.
Hey Renee,
where are u ordering the argan oil from? I’ve heard only good things about it and was in search for it for ages. Found a pushcart in Raffles City that sells it but a bit skeptical about the purity/authenticity.At $90 I should think its the real deal but you never know.
Hey Naj, I haven’t sourced out places yet. But I guess online, as I don’t think they sell it here. And $90 for Argan Oil sounds pretty steep… I’m sure in Singapore you’d get the real deal normally, but $90 is alot! :/ How big was the bottle; did you find it was worth the price?
I have tried it. Its nice, but it weighs my hair down in our humid weather if I use it continuously. Used once or twice a week, its alright. But I do think its a lot more hype than it has benefits because its chockful of silicones. You can try the Kerastase Ultimate Elixir available locally. I think its just as good, if not better.
Thanks Paris! Will check out Kerastase… heard so much good things about them.
I love this product. I went to regis hair salon and they recommended it to my grandmother and I. It totally trans formed our hair, it makes you hair so silky and soft. You will love it!
Thanks Teresa! Can’t wait to try it out (somehow!)
A friend recommended I try Argan oil (Moroccon oil) and it’s been really good. I have fine hair but a lot of it and sometimes when it gets a bit of static, I use it before I go to bed. It’s lovely and soft and so silky and doesn’t feel weighted down. The smell is nice and soft too. I would recommend for everyone to use, you will truly love it!
Thanks Bronwen (your name is so cool!).
What does it smell like? x
Hey where can I purchase this from in Singapore?
Hey I’m Completely Obsessed With Moroccan Oil . Have you found out yet where in Singapore you can get it from ?
I’ve tried it and thought it was alright. Personally, I like using 100% pure argan oil or other oils on my hair instead. MoroccanOil does have argan oil in it, but it also has silicones. Silicones in hair products aren’t exactly bad, and they’re good for anti-frizz, but there’s research that silicones dry out hair and cause damage in the long run. I use either 100% argan oil or Kiehl’s Superbly Restorative Argan Dry Oil or nuxe huile prodigieuse. They’re also great mutitasking products (I also use them on my face – no breakouts and it’s great!). My hair’s been shiny and soft – seems pretty good to me!
Thanks so much for all the info, Ann. I really appreciate it.
I think 100% pure Argan Oil would be amazing as well, though I’m curious to try that and MorocconOil to compare… I never knew Kiehl’s has that product! We def have Kiehl’s here so I’ll check it out. Thanks!
I’ve never tried it but this post made me curious but I saw this review on makeupalley:
Moroccan Oil is supposed to harness the amazing benefits of Argan Oil.
So why are the second and third ingredients Dimethicone & Cyclomethicone (silicone oils) while Argan Oil is the SIXTH. I hate to be a spoiled sport but all this hype about Moroccan Oil being an effective natural product is Bull-poop.
Ingredients:
Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, Butylphenyl, MethylPropional, Argania Spinoza Kernal Oil (Aragan Oil), Linseed (Linum Usitatissimum) Extract, Fragrance Supplement, D&C Yellow-11, D&C Red-17, Coumarin, Benzyl Benzoate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone.
Silicone oil is a standard ingredient for hair smoothing, frizz fighting, shine enhancing products. It’s also the main ingredient in many drugstore hair smoothing formulas (FrizzEase)…so why the hefty price ($40) for Moroccan Oil? And while it lists Argan Oil as an ingredient, it is less than 2% of the overall ingredients — only slightly more than the fragrance and artificial colorings.
The real issue here is how much benefit are you getting from a product that is actually a cosmetic fix. I agree, it will make the hair “appear” smoother and frizz-free, but it also prevents nutrients and moisture from entering the hair shaft and scalp because it’s been coated with synthetic oils. The silicone builds up and becomes increasingly harder to remove with just standard shampooing. This buildup eventually repels needed moisture and nutrients (from your conditioner), clogs the pores in the scalp, eventually strangles the hair follicle and makes it fall out…NEVER to grow back again.
People rave about organic argan oil because it’s the “real thing”, but this company irks me because they are exploiting people’s trust.
By the way, the reason no bunnies had to die for their product is because they only used ingredients that had been PREVIUOSLY TESTED…the bunnies already died at some other company’s expense. Not an unusual practice and it’s employed by many “socially conscious” company’s so they can make the blessed “no animal testing” claim. Sorry, but this kind of deceptive marketing is shady, misleading and bugs the daylights out of me ( translation: pisses me off BIG time!).
Want the benefits of Argan Oil? Then use REAL Argan Oil and enjoy the actual benefits. There are a number of highly reputable internet resources for organic, cosmetic grade Argan Oil at GREAT prices…do some research
Though, there are a lot of other good reviews on the site. So I’m not sure..
Hey Christine, thanks for your comment. I agree with a lot of the things you say. MorocconOil is most def not a natural product and I think 100% pure Argan OIl would be better.
And I agree about the “not tested on animals” thing. It’s really sad. I’m not sure what can be done about this, though.
I totally agree with Christine. I don’t believe the benefits of ‘Morrocan Oil’…. i would rather purchase other products that contain argan oil. I think it is quite deceptive also, and sooo expensive. Frankly i cant stand the smell.
I’ve heard plenty of positive reviews about this but I have yet to purchase it simply because I have no where to purchase or rather a site that ships the products to Singapore.
Just a heads up. I wanted to buy it off Amazon, but it seems Amazon itself is selling the counterfeit products! (refer to the reviews) I’m quite shocked myself. And I visited this website – https://www.moroccanoilproducts.com
I tried to purchase one bottle but it seems that I can’t pass the checkout page. I received this error message: Sorry, no quotes are available for this order at this time.
I have extremely frizzy hair (i have to bun it every single time when I’m out) and I’m still in search for good hair products that can tame my monstrous hair. If you managed to buy the products of a legit website, do let me know. I’d really appreciate it.
Thank you.
I have no idea*
Omg, Fee… Amazon sells fake stuff? I thought they were reputable…
You can try coconut oil. I’ve used it in the past and I absolutely love it; it makes my hair so soft and shiny, but the smell is really off putting so I want to try something new. You can buy it from Little India, my Mom said it helps with her frizz as well.
I really want to try this but don’t know where to buy it from!
Same here! I know I want to try it out but haven’t researched places yet… but I’m sure there’ll be places online? My original idea was to buy from Amazon but a commenter below said they sell fake products! O_O
Hi… You can buy them from cosme-de com. Its in Hong Kong. free shipping if im not wrong.
Hey… I checked it out but they don’t seem to sell them anymore?
Do u subscribe to singsale.com.sg? They have it as well but the bad news is … It’s sold out. But the mask and spray thing is available. Try check
Totally worth it. LOVE it. Haven’t had split ends in 2 years thanks to this wonderful product and the smell… I would buy the perfume.
Aw awesome! I have so much split ends it’s not even funny!
I’ve never tried it out, but I’m kind of interested…
Same here!
I also use another argan oil without silicones. It’s called Live Clean. The argan oil products are called Exotic Nectar. It smells so good! I use the shampoo (low poo), the oil and the frizz creme. In Montreal, these products are available in drugstores and aren’t expensive at all. I love them!
You’re so lucky that it’s at the drugstores! I’ll have to get my hands on some Argan Oil as well… I can imagine it’ll be hard here
I agree with the masses: Moroccanoil ROCKS!!!
I have tried the original oil – silky smooth as reviewed
Also using the conditioner now. Lightweight conditioning
Styling cream: sleek and smooth for straight blowdrying. Not too good for curls will weigh down
Hairspray: medium hold, no white residue when brushing out
My only regret: not buying more when I had the chance!!
Hey Jo! Where you been, girl?
Aw OK… I am scared of the silicones as everyone says but I do want to try it out one day! Where did you get yours?
The silicones bit is quite a turn-off…hmmm… I have read raves but I’ve also read “meh” type of reviews….
Yeah silicones :/ I’d love to try it at least a few times though!
I have to agree with the buzz, I love this product.
It’s great for my hair, I put the smallest amount through the ends after I wash my hair. It’s lovely on my hair and bonus is it cuts drying time in half.
Moroccan Oil is worth the hype.
Thanks Christina! I wonder why it cuts down drying time, though?
I heard of the goodness that this magical oil has to offer! So intrigued to try them but gosh, they are super expensive! :/
Yeah! Do you remember the price? I remember seeing it ages ago and it was really expensive but I have no idea anymore. But yeah, I do remember it was very expensive
I’m sure Argan Oil by itself is fairly cheap…
I keep hearing wonders about this stuff! Might have to get my hands on some argan oil.
I think I will too! MoroccanOIl seems very expensive, hard to find and contains tons of silicons from the other comments
love it! i use it when ever i wash my hair. i put in the oil when my hair is still wet… (dont know if its supposed to be dry or wet ?:) its a little expensive, but it lasts for a long time, i have verryyy thick hair and its lasted me almost a year! you should try it, Renee. by the way, love the blog, keep up the amazing work.
Thanks, A! Ah, I’m so curious to try it! Am asking my friend in the US to take pity on me and find me a sample. I think there’s no way to buy it in Singapore, so I’ll keep looking elsewhere!
Glad to hear it lasts a long time – I think it’s the same with all oils? A little goes a long way!
And thanks so much, A. So happy to hear you like my blog
<3
hey renee….does singapore have this? i’m would love to give it a try… ^^ or do i have to get it online…? any shops or online website you know? Thanks in advance… ^^,
So far I don’t know any sites and it is not sold in Singapore
Am trying to find out and will def let you all know when I do! xx
Super sad that SG doesn’t sell this product. If anyone is going to the States soon, I’ll have to BEG them to get me a bottle! I have very frizzy dry hair so I’m willing to try anything. Haha.
This stuff is seriosuly awesome, when i went to hairdresser before using it she actually recommended me getting a crop to accommate all the damage to my hair which I declined. Later a friend recommended Moroccan oil to me and it has totally transformed my hair. Yes I still have fly aways but they are soft and for lack of a better word not “crispy” my hair actually has shine and I can run my fingers through it without it snagging and breaking. Last visit to my hairdresser she was shocked and she only had to cut a small amount off the ends compared to my usual 3 monthly 3-4 inches of damage. So well well the money, non greasy and has a nice subtle smell.
BTW It’s about $50 AU for a 100ml bottle which lasts ages as you only need a couple of drops each time.
Love your blog, you’re a truly amazing blogger (and quite evidently person)!
I’m definitely looking into MorrocanOil as well, so I appreciate the post.
Also, you’re right – it’s “par exemple”
But I’ve also been considering natural argan oil or coconut oil, especially after reading some of the comments!
Wow Jackie, thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it, you’re so kind. Thank you
I can’t vouch for Argan oil or Moroccanoil yet (though if or when I do try it out, I’ll write a post to let you all know!) but I can def recommend coconut oil! I’ve used it on my hair for a very long time and I love it because it gives amazing shine, and makes my hair really strong and soft. However, I personally think it’s a tad too smelly for me and that’s why I’ve been curious to try other oils! I’d def recommend you try out a small bottle first, and see if you can tolerate the smell – it’s a bit too intense for me
Do let me know if you get a chance to try it and what you think of it! xx
Ooh, coconut oil sounds great! I do love the smell of coconut, but maybe the oil is different – I hope to get around to trying a smaller bottle first. If I do, I’ll definitely let you know the results!
And of course, your blog is absolutely great and you’re immensely talented!
Hi Renee,
I went to John Little y’day and I found the Organix shampoo range. Dunno if u know this but they have Moroccan Oil shampoo, conditioner, hair oil and treatment mask. I was so excited and I bought all 4. Before that, I checked an online review on my IPad on the spot and with good reviews I bought them. There’s a sale going on at JL and BHG. 20% discount all items. Ohhh .. I forgot. It’s $15.90 per bottle. Same price for the conditioner, mask and hair oil. I tried them last nite and my hair is super soft. Juz want u to know. Bye
Try http://www.annlibre.com.sg. They have it on their online store and free local shipping too in Singapore. Prices are reasonable as well.
i use m.o for 2 weeks then swap to another lighter brand i.e babyliss, then swap back.
as my hair gets build up from the diff.chemical oils in them.
I also use a clarify shampoo once a month.
Talking of hair,i cant use ghds, my hairs too brittle for the high temp.im waiting to buy a cloud nine-same owners but lower temp! id like know more, read an interview abt GHD straighteners founders.they made a motzza
abt a takeover of the market
I’ve tried it numerous amounts of times as my sister is a hairdresser so i get to try out all the neat products and i must say , this really makes a difference to the texture of your hair , no matter how damaged it is it will transform your hair into silk , but note , your hair only stays soft when you use it , when you dont its back to what it was originally like , id use it sparingly and when you do use it , use a little otherwise yoru hair may become greasy .
I am a fan of argan oil and has been using it for almost two months. My blackheads and whiteheads seem gone after using THE ARGAN products. rIGHT AFTER CLEANSING WITH THE ARGAN SOAP, I TONE MY SKIN WITH MY FAVOURITE TONER.. AND IMMEDIATELY, i APPLY ONE OR TWO DROPS of argan oil ON MY SKIN. Result? sUpERB….ITS REALLY amazing, However, if i use more than two drops, my skin will become greasy…
I just purchased a bottle from http://www.souqinternational.com/ They sell 100% moroccan argan oil. I was given a small sample vial by the owner a couple of months ago and I loved it. The company is based in the Philippines though so I don’t know how shipping will cost for you. I live in the Philippines so shipping for me is minimal.
There is another one called macadamia ! They say that works wonders found a shoP that sells that in Singapore but its extremely outrageous the price . A 10 ml bottle is like $13!
i bought my 100% organic argan oil from http://www.naturelova.com. $72 for 60ml bottle, but seems like it can last for a long time cos i only use a few drops each time. It has worked wonders on my hair and cuticles so far. I don’t need to use conditioner after shampooing. Just apply 2-3 drops of argan oil on towel-dried dry and blow dry. My chin-length hair was soft and silky. I noticed it made my nails healhier too. I am starting to use it on my face and notice it clears pimples as well. Gonna test it a few more times to see if it continues to zap those zits away!
I bought mine from http://www.annlibre.com.sg at $37 for 100 mls inclusive of postage. It too work wonders for me. It is also 100% pure Argan oil for use on hair and skin. I think you got reaped off with this pricing.
Hey Ladies , where can i get an Argan oil in Hong Kong ? anyone ?
I used pure moroccan oil as a leave-in and it is amazing. I haven’t had such a good hair day for years. I have fine hair, prone to frizz and it certainly didn’t weigh it down.
I am very happy.
Very Happy
Yes, mine too. My hair was stiff n frizzy. But after using 100% pure argan oil, it is now soft n shiny. I’m loving it.
Hi Renee, chanced upon your article while I was doing some research on getting pure Argan oil because I just think Moroccanoil is shadowed by heavy marketing (like many many commericialised stuff around!), and Argan oil doesn’t make the highest content of the bottle!
I am making a trip to Australia soon and I figured out it would be good if I could get pure imported argan oil there. (I guess the caucasian places are easier to search than in Singapore afterall) And I found this… http://www.arganoil.com.au/category5_1.htm
Looks good though it’s a little pricey.
I’ll see if I chance upon it in the stores!
It’s amazing! I use to moisturize my hair wet or dry and my hair comes out tamer, silk, and softer. I have really dry hair before using Moroccan Oil. It’s my go to
. I prefer it on my wet hair, since that is when I face the harsh frizzing.
