Jeri’s First Day

I’m sorry to always write about my dogs but this is a special one, because today is the one year death anniversary of my first dog, Jeri. Time really does pass so fast and I’m still thinking about her a lot. So I thought I’d write a post on the day we bought her, ’cause my Dad recently scanned every single family photo and gave me a copy. I saw these and had to share… adorable pictures of Jeri’s first day with us, on March 24th 1997.

Looking at these pictures, I should’ve named her Angel… does she not look like one? She used to love lying down on my dresses (and yes, that’s 9 year old me up there!) She is the sweetest and I just can’t explain how much I miss her. RIP Jeri.

Did you have any pets that passed away? How did you cope? :(

RIP Jeri
I know how you feel Renee… Loosing a pet sucks big time!
I used to have 2 birds…. one of them died a year ago and i’ve never cried so much in my life. And i know it was just a bird but i had her for 10 years!, it was a very sad day. Your pets become like a family member, and it’s devastating when they pass away. I still have one of my birds, who is turning 12 soon!… and i have my dog… All you can do is think about the good times you had with your pet

I’m sorry for your loss, Meli! Yeah, they do become a huge part of your family. :(

I totally agree… all you can do is remember the good things and know you did your best to give them the best life they could. <3

Aw so sad :( . We’ve had several dogs that have died and its just heartbreaking. They become a member of the family and like a best friend. They’re always there for you :) . I suppose I just consoled myself by knowing they had been so happy with us and we gave them all the love they gave us back.

Thanks Sophie, yeah, I think that’s the only thing you can do really. And know that they are in doggy-heaven having a ball. :)

Losing a pet is so heartbreaking! It’s like losing a furry family member. Before I was born, my parents bought a puppy the day they moved into our house & named him Otis. He was a labrador, a gentle giant and sweet as could be! When I was learning to talk I would read him books and he patiently endured me tugging on him, putting toys on his head, climbing over him, etc. When I was in 3rd grade, my parents had to put him down – that was the first time I’d ever seen my dad cry. I remember trying to sleep that night and realized how quiet my house was without Otis trotting around downstairs across all the creaky floorboards. I still miss him and think of how much apart of my childhood he was and can’t wait to get a dog of my own, they’re truly special creatures.

Aw Michaela that sounds so nice to have a dog as you were growing up. I felt so sad when you said that was the first time you saw your dad cry when your dog died. They really are like another family member. :(

And I would definitely recommend getting a dog of your own, and I encourage you to get one from a shelter, there are lots of lovely, loyal dogs who deserve a great mommy like you. :)

Jeri’s an adorable pup :)
I had a budgie when I was 8, and left the cage hanging outside overnight by accident.. In the morning, my sister told me the neighbour’s cat got to it…I saw the cage on the ground, feathers everywhere and it was a really heartbreaking sight. I cried so much and felt so guilty.. And didn’t really want to get another pet for a while. It’s amazing how attached we can get to our pets – they give us so much happiness!
Yeah it must be easier for you to just have it all on one site! But at least you are still having personal posts! BF is looking really good btw!

Oh my! I’m sorry, Samantha. I’m sure it was an honest mistake and it wasn’t your fault. :( Pets really do give us so much happiness, they are just wonderful!

And thank you so much! Yeah, I decided to just “screw it!” and put it all on one site :-P And thank you, I really like the new look around here as well. So happy to hear you like it too :D

I was watching CNN last night and there was this clip of a woman and her dog stuck on the rooftop due to massive flood in Rio De Janeiro. The Rescuers dropped a rope and she did try to hold her dog but it got swapped away while they tried to pull her up.
I burst into tears even tho I don’t keep pets cos it was in such a blink of an eye.=(

i had a corgi for 12 years but she had to be put down 2 years ago cuz of cancer. it was growing lumps in her throat but we figured she was too old to handle any operation (she had slip disc when she was younger. the pain got to her so much she was dragging her body and biting her legs while wailing in pain when i called her to me.)

i cried every night for 2 months and lost sleep and couldn’t eat nor concentrate on anything. luckily i have another two dogs (siblings) given to me by my neighbour. they accompanied me throughout when they realised my corgi didn’t come home with me that day.

they always bullied her when she was alive, but i guess they miss her too because they kept following me around haha.

well renee, don’t be too upset. a friend sent me a link once. it says all pets that have passed away go to a place where they are well, healthy, and able to use their limbs and see and hear. that made me feel a little bit better. :)

Omg, I am so sorry to hear that, Lynn. Cancer sounds horrible, your poor dog. :( I am glad that his suffering is over, what a terrible thing to have gone through :( I hope you are OK now? I totally understand the crying thing… it’s been a year and when I think of Jeri the tears come. :( But like your friend said, all dogs go to a special doggy heaven so that makes me feel better… I am sure your dog and mine are playing together right now, happy and healthy :D

Aw Erin Cavaliers are the best, are they not? Jeri was one too! They are so precious and lovely.

Just remember to give all the love you can to your pup and cherish every moment with him! :D

Hey Renee, I personally love the occasional mention of your puppy babies! ;) I lost my dog last year too. She was 15 years old. Your new puppy is so super cute! Do you know what breed he is? or is he what we in South Africa call a “pavement special” which is a mix breed. :) All of my dogs were rescued from life on the streets, so its really great that you adopted another special pup :)

Thanks so much, Amy! Awww, “pavement special” is such an adorable name! Yes, my new pup is a pavement special and I adore her to bits! I am so sorry about your dog, although 15 years is quite old so I guess it was his time? :( Jeri’s lifespan was 13 years and we were told that anything past 12 is very good for a dog, so we were thankful for that extra time with her. I’m sure you really cherished the extra time you had with your dog as well! Do you have any other pets now? :) xx
