Introducing… Bailey!

So sorry but beauty talk will have to be tomorrow. I scheduled a blog post for tomorrow (I schedule all blog posts to appear at midnight, in case you didn’t notice!), but it’s 11.32 pm right now and I decided I want to introduce the newest addition to the Beauty Fool family. You know how it is – when you’re in love you just want to talk about it all the time, to anyone who’ll listen!

Meet my new pup, Bailey! We adopted her from Action for Singapore Dogs (please support them – they are wonderful, loving dogs who’s been through alot that deserve a home. If you’re planning to get a dog, please go there!)

Warning – super long post with super cute pictures ahead!

We met Bailey at her foster home at 10am on Saturday (yesterday)… and by 11.30am she was in the car with us! My parents and I loved her at first sight and she was so calm and gentle (as opposed to her sister, that little devil!)… but what sealed the deal for me was when the foster Dad said she took a shower earlier that morning because she wanted to look good for us, hoping we’d take her. Doesn’t that break your heart? Also, she has been through so much – she was found in a rural area in Singapore that has high traffic and a very high rate of roadkill in that area. She was rescued with her litter and brought to the shelter, and later found a foster home. Bailey was actually adopted, but a week later the family didn’t want her anymore so she was given back to the foster family.

Because the foster family was taking care of her sister who is a handful (to say the least), they were going to give her to another foster family. And if she didn’t get a home soon, it was back to the shelter (which is a no-kill shelter). So much moving and she is only 4 months old! We didn’t want her to go to the shelter so we decided to come back a little later to the foster family’s house after we bought a bed, etc for her. As we were leaving, she ran out with us and followed us to the car, so we decided to just take her then and there!

Bailey came home and was so scared – she kept hiding underneath the dining table and was so shy. She looked a bit sad and wherever I went she followed me – as if she was scared I would abandon her. NEVER! Poor thing. She is so sweet but I understand that she has a lot of trauma in her life so she was very scared. She was so tired and tried to sleep, but with every little sound she would got up. I think she was so scared that if she fell asleep, something would happen.

Apart from being so scared and shy, she started to warm up a bit when the evening came and started to play with me. And let me tell you, she is SO smart. She learned how to potty train on the newspaper in half a day! She made an accident on my Mom’s persian carpet (to which my mom yelped, almost in slow motion, “BAILEY! Noooooooo!” So funny!) By night time, she was playing with me, and went behind to the newspaper and did her business. Isn’t she the smartest?! We played all night until she passed out in her bed!

Today (Day 2), she opened up! She greeted me in the morning (at the ungodly hour of 6am, but I’ll forgive her this one time…) with kisses and a big jump on my bed. Adorable! She spent the day playing, walking and cuddling, and it took her 10 minutes to learn how to “sit”. Smart dog for sure! She was so much more relaxed and a few times she came up to me with the teddy bear in her mouth, asking to play. When she took a nap, she wasn’t as alert and just let herself sleep deeply. She is fully potty trained (on day 2!!!) and so much more open and playful.

And now? It is 12:09 am, a little over Day 2 and Bailey is sound asleep – on her pillow!

In other words? I’M IN LOVE! :-D I think we’ll find out Bailey’s personality more and more each day, and I’m so happy she’s adjusting well. Although, I have to say, having a dog around again makes me miss Jeri, my very first dog (she passed away in January) so, so much. I had a bit of a tearful cry the first night because I miss her so! Still, all dogs deserve a good home and to be loved, so my family decided we were ready to bring another one home, and hopefully give a dog with a traumatic past a happy future – all dogs deserve love, cuddles, happiness and treats!

I just want to say this again – if you’re in Singapore and you’re looking to give a loving home to a dog, please consider Action for Singapore Dogs . They are wonderful and are doing so much for stray and abandoned and abused dogs. And if you are planning to get a dog, please understand that having a dog is a lifetime commitment. There are all sorts of horror stories (like some dogs in the shelter) where families just leave the dogs abandoned in the park because they are “over it”. It is absolutely disgusting. I am a big animal lover and despise animal abuse of all kinds, so I encourage you to love, respect and care for animals – they deserve to live happily on this Earth as much as we do!

xx Renee

Bailey is absolutely gorgeous! It always makes me sad to hear stories abt abandoned dogs, so I think you’re doing a great thing by adopting her :)

Thanks, Ri! Yeah, I just can’t understand how anyone could do such a cruel thing to an innocent animal. It’s very upsetting :(

Aw, what a sweetie! I’m always happy to hear when dogs are rescued. When we get a dog, I want to rescue one, too, but that’ll have to wait for a while. Still, I can’t help looking at the Humane Society website and falling in love with every dog :) I’m so glad Bailey has a lovely home!

Hey Larie! Yes, please do get a rescued dog! But also be patient with them as they have had a lot of trauma and have quite a bit of issues. But they will open up eventually :)

And I know what you mean! I fell in love with every dog on the website too… if I lived in a bigger house I would adopt 5 of them, but my apartment’s not too big so it’s 1 for now. (Although my family and I are contemplating maybe getting another one later down the road, but 2 is the maximum for our space)!

Just adorable. I’m on my second rescue dog and they are so grateful to have a forever home. It’s wonderful that your family did this.

So cute! love the name!

She is a smart dog… I remember when i got my dog three years ago that it took a couple of days for my dog to stop going to the bathroom in the house!!!

It’s great that you talked about rescuing dogs from shelters!

Thanks, Meli! I love her name as well. She had another one but I didn’t think it fit her at all so I changed it… she learnt her new name in 2 hours! She’s a smart one.

I’m so happy to hear that you all are animal lovers and have dogs yourself! What kind of dog do you have? What’s its name? :D

I have a pekingese chihuahua… he’s small like a chihuahua but has a lot of hair.
We took him in when another family didn’t want him anymore, I cant imagina my life without him. His name is Blacky because his coat is black… not really original haha
Dogs really become a part of your family!

I grew up with Jeri the same way you grew up with Jessica and I remember how we used to write all those cute poems about the two when we were kids. It was tough for me too when Jeri passed away but I’m glad she had such a long, loving life with you and I know Bailey will be beyond happy with you and the ‘rents! She is wonderful from the sounds of it and I’m excited to see how she develops the longer she’s with you. Definitely am going to visit you next year to meet this new addition! I love her already (:

Aw yeah, we used to do all sorts of things about our pets! Oh Jeri how I miss her :( I’m glad she had a happy life too – seriously, she had NO stress in her life, haha! – but I miss her so much… :’(

Bailey is wonderful! She is so sweet but also a little naughty so she can be a handful! I look forward to knowing her more – I think her true personality will come out more after she’s more settled/less scared and gets used to the family. :)

Thanks so much, Sapphire. Really appreciate your comment – my only wish is taht EVERYONE can respect animals too. There are so many reports on animal abuse in Singapore, it’s so sad :(

Awww! Congratulations on finding such a sweetie! She looks really cute, and what big paws! Do you think she’ll get much bigger? And you paper train her? Doesn’t that get a bit smelly?

I also have a rescue dog that we found as a stray and adopted (it’s a cute but kind of long story). He’s not as smart as your dog, but he is super sweet!

Reply

Renee November 2, 2010 at 11:31

Thanks Mary! :D Yep, she’ll get a little bigger, her full size is 2.5 feet. So she’s a medium sized dog!

Nope, paper train is not smelly ’cause we put the paper in the back area of the house, away from everything. She only does Number 1 on it so it’s not much work, and she does Number 2 outside when she goes on walks. Since pups have to go Number 1 several times a day and during the night, paper-training works best as we can’t walk her at 3am, for example :-P

And I’m SO happy to hear your dog is a rescue dog as well! What is the cute story behind it? I’d love to hear :D

She is beautiful!! I’m glad she’s finally found a good home, it sounds like she’s been through a lot. I can never understand how people can treat animals like that.

I almost cried with your story, im sure she is really happy at yout house!!! I have a dog, her name is Cindy. She doesnt live inside my house, only outside, she was born in 2001. I LOVE her so much, she is such a nice dog, althoug she destroys EVERYTHING that belongs to my aunt or my brother (not my stuff hahahahah because she loves me), that’s why we cant let her inside. She destroys all of my aunt carpets! It’s interesting because sometimes my clothes drop on the floor with the wind and she never destroys, she really knows my smell i guess haha. The other day my aunt said she couldnt stop barking, and like 3 minutes later I arrived. My aunt thinks she smelled me, even though I was not even close the gate! Thats cool!heheh Anywaysss im happy for u and bailey, she is so cute!

You mentioned Jeri passed away in Jan. This year or last? I had a pup who came into my life when I was 11. Last year Aug, she passed away from a heart attack at the age of 7yrs 11mths. Its been 7 months now and I still feel like I’m not ready for a new pup. My parents brought a pup home recently. He’s so freaking adorable and tiny but I can’t seem to get myself to get attached to him.
