Imperfection is Beauty

“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” – Marilyn Monroe

My favorite ‘imperfection’ I have is a scar dead center on my forehead. I wish I had a cool story, but it is really dumb. I got it when I was 5 years old on New Year’s Eve – I was dancing around and wanted to do some fancy move, when BAM! I slammed my forehead into the glass table, and then, naturally, being 5… started screaming my head off.

I haven’t had much comments about them, except one girl who I’d just met very sarcastically asked if I’d ever considered laser to remove it. I told her very nonchalantly that I thought it made me look badass (a joke, she didn’t get it), but in hindsight I should’ve said – and will in the future – that I did it myself to show my devotion to Harry Potter. Ha! :)

What ‘imperfections’ do you love about yourself?

Imperfection IS beauty! One imperfection of mine is that my nails grow in an upward way, not like most nails out there, but I wouldn`t change them for the world :P I also have a mole in my back I used to hate but now I think it`s sexy, anyway, they`re ¨flaws¨ but I love them, they`re so MINE :)

Hey Rosa! I love your last line, “they’re ‘flaws’ but I love them, they are MINE!” That’s so powerful, I really love it! :-D

I have a mole at the side of my stomach and I always thought it looked so gross and thought when I was older I should remove it, but now I think it’s sexy too! Moles are sexy, in my opinion – just ask Cindy Crawford ;)

I KNOW! Hahaha, Cindy Crawford`s exactly who I thought of when I wrote the comment! :)

Love it! I spent almost my entire life hating my thick, unconventional hair, and a few years back learned a different way to style and manage it, and now whole-heartedly embrace my naturally curly locks!

Own your imperfections and turn them into assets, yay!

Hey Jen, long time no speak! Hope you’ve been well. :) Like Rosa’s comment above, I also love your last line! Haha. Everyone is so powerful! I am glad you have found ways to manage your hair and learnt to love it, I think curly hair is really beautiful (and your color is really nice as well).

I have a snag(ged?) tooth! I’ve never had braces and luckily all of my teeth grew fine with the exception of one of my front incisors. I don’t love it (I often bite the side of my tongue since it curves inward), but I kinda like it :D

Mary - Yay you got a pic, now we can all see your pretty face. :)

You know – one of the guys who I was completely crazy about had pretty crooked teeth. Don’t know about a snaggletooth, I never looked that far into his mouth, (LOL I wish!) but I always thought it was so adorable! :-P

I love the part about better being ridiculous than boring. Totally love it. Cos I like to wear exaggerated accessories. Anyway, my imperfection would be being more to the meaty side, because I had slimmed down from being obese, so still have some fats here and there. So many people have told me I am the correct size, and that I look good being normal rather than skinny.

Jyoan, that’s great to hear that you got healthy, kudos to you; it must’ve been hard! Curves are very sexy; so glad to hear you’ve got a positive body image, it’s not very common now a days, unfortunately :(

I have a scar in my wrist, I got it when I was 14 maybe by falling from my bicycle. But I don’t consider it an imperfection, I like it ;)

Hey Oscar, thank you for visiting and welcome! I like scars too, strangely enough, I feel like it looks like you’ve ‘lived’ a bit ;) Haha.

I think there was a trend here in Italy some years ago here in Italy to make a tattoo around scars :D

By the way you have a really nice blog ;)

Renee August 22, 2009 at 15:17

Really? I’ve never heard of that trend! Interesting though … like an outline of the scar with a tattoo? Did you get one? :-P

And thanks so much, appreciate it Oscar :)

Haha:) As soon as you mentioned the scar on the forehead I immediately thought Harry Potter ;)

I guess it’s pretty cool, makes people unique. Some people get complexes about scars, thinking it has made them ugly. I think you should wear them proudly, you survived the battle :) hehe

I got a big one on my shoulder from a motorbike accident. :)

Keep well miss!

Hey Diggy, thanks for your input! I do like scars actually, I have another one directly in line to the one on my forehead on the start of the bridge of my nose (swimming pool accident … I was a crazy kid!), but you can hardly see it because it was stitched up by a plastic surgeon :-P Their line of work is amazing, you can barely see anything and it was straight across my nose!

And like I just said to Oscar above, scars do seem like you’ve had it tough, eh? Haha, like you said – you survived a battle! I knew this girl whose boyfriend would purposely scar himself to look ‘tough’ (which is just weird, though. What a fake! Haha!) Sorry to hear about the motorbike accident though, I hope that the scar was the worse that happened? :(

I have a mole on the side of my nose. I used to hate it as a kid but I have embraced it in adulthood as I think it makes me unique! ;-)

I’m glad you’ve learnt to love it, Michelle! Moles are sexy! It’s so strange how you can hate something so much but then learn to love it … that’s why I’m always thinking NO NO NO to young teens who want to get plastic surgery!

Thanks for visiting and hope to see you around more often :D

my knees! i have the goofiest knees, all bony and covered in scars from skateboarding, and i have a black dot from a tattooing experiment (just a single black freckle! wtf!)
however, i’ve grown to like them because they make me look even more like a cartoon character. definitley not boring!

Reply

Renee August 21, 2009 at 00:08

Dip – Aw, I like your cartoon character statement! Haha and I also like the idea of your tattoo experiment! I wanted to do that when I was younger, just to see what it felt like :-P Did it hurt?

Dip August 21, 2009 at 00:22

heck yeah it hurts! homemade tattoos honestly hurt worse than professionals. i made a tutorial a while ago; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_ZHo4ymW8U

WHAT! Homemade tattoos? I’ve never heard of that! I thought maybe you went to a tattoo parlor and you just asked the guy to draw a dot to see how it feels like (that was my idea long ago haha). You are brave! I just saw your vid and omg it looks like agony (my pain tolerance is 0.5), your friend looked like he was in a lot of pain! :( By the way it’s really nice to ‘see’ how you look like, I’m always curious to see who visits! And your hair is awesome, I think it’s so cool! :)

haha thanks a lot! yeah i got rid of my dreads for work : ( i miss them, but at the same time its nice to start new sometimes. now i have like this pixie cut thing, i cant wait for it to grow out!!!
yeah it is pretty painful, but its not as bad as he made it look haha. it was painful for him because hes super skinny and he did it in the WORST possible area, the rib cage.
: )

Sorry for the late reply :) I didn’t get one. I think that trend lasted for something like 6 months or so.

Hey Renee! All my teenage years I was so so so self conscious about my flaws and such. Like the birthmark I’ve got dead center of my forehead. I have no idea how many times people asked me if I was Indian, or why was I wearing a bindi, or if I was Hindu! I absolutely hated it, but now that I’m 22 I love it. It makes me me, and I think it makes me look a bit exotic;)

I have this small, tiny moll on the upper left side of my upper lip (but I like it because it’s just like Marilyn Monroe’s! :)
I also have this dreaded small (thankfully very tiny moll) in my nose, just below my eyes (meaning when you would draw a straight line below your eyes, right under that line on my nose:)

(Sorry for going so into detail about it, I tend to do that, haha:D
