Ah yes, the whole (beauty blogging) world is talking about it – Emma Stone has gone blonde! But no worries, it’s for a movie role. Personally, I loved her as a red head and prefer that, but she still looks just as beautiful blonde. (Off topic, but who the eff did her makeup? That winged liner is to die for!)
Anyway, her recent color change has got me thinking… have you ever had a drastic color change?
My best friend Christine is the ultimate hair chameleon – she has done bleach blonde, dark blonde, red, sandy and dark brown. Phew! Unfortunately, I am not as experimental. I usually stick to my dark brown hair, but I did once have a bright red and gold hair at-home dye mishap. (And luckily, there is no photographic evidence of these tragedies.) And though I love my brown locks… I am so curious how I would look like as a red head, or – gasp – a blonde! Maybe an afternoon at the wig store is needed, just for a bit of fun?
What about you, lovely readers? Have you ever had a drastic hair color change before? Do share your stories – and which color do you think suits you the best? I have to say that for me, natural is the best.

Hi!
First comment here, I just wanted to say I really appreciate your blog. It looks nice, and there’s a lot of great tips!
Back to this specific post: I love Emma’s eye make-up too (I’m a sucker for winged eyeliner ^^). It reminds me of Lisa Eldridge’s tutorial :
http://www.lisaeldridge.com/video/12861/smoky-winged-eyeliner/
And she looks quite good in blonde. Then again, her complexion goes with any hair colour.
Hey! Thanks so much
I’m SUCH a sucker for winged liner too, and Emma’s is a perfect example of it :0
I had plenty of experiments with my hair when I was younger. I was sure my natural dark brown was somehow dull. So I had black, I had chestnut, honey brown… even experimented with a perm, which was a joy for a month and a total distaster for about 6
I did go blonde once too. Which was quite messy. My hair didnt take the dye the first time… The desired result was finally reached after 4 visits at the hairstylist… Also had to lighten my eyebrows.. and worry about the roots. Grew to be quite paranoid in the end
It did look good… but I just didnt really feel me when I looked at the mirror so I changed it back.
The extreme experiences from the past now made me appreciate my natural color so much more. I know it might sound boring, but at least now the only things that I need to worry about are shortening my bangs… and making sure my hair looks overall healthy and avoiding split ends. That’s about it
Oh dear! That’s a lot of experimenting! I guess we all need to go through all the mess to really appreciate what we have!
I’ve been getting highlights since I was maybe 12 and, have been a blonde most of my life.
One day I just got sick of it. And I dyed it redish-brown. But soon I went back to my blonde ways.
Im currently have brown and im thinkin about getting it dyed a bright red.
OMG bright red would be so hot! A fiery redhead
The most drastic I’ve ever gone is bright red. Actually the weirdest was red with green streaks but after a day the green just sort of faded away and became brownish :/ But bright red was my most drastic and I went for my prom straight after dying my hair in an emerald green dress to boot! It was so drastic but I felt positively vivacious! Kind of a Poison Ivy feel (the Batman villain, not the plant
)
But those were my younger days *wistful* haha I stick to my natural black colour now because it makes me look very Asian and I love that
On another note, Emma Stone is absolutely gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! I loved her as a brunette, a redhead and now as a blonde – srsly, can she do no wrong (hair-wise)?! Love the winged liner although she doesn’t really need it with her natural cat-like eyes!
Wow! Red and green streaks… can we see pictures? Haha. I’m extremely happy to hear that you love your natural color because it makes you look like your ethnicity. From what I can see, it’s quite the opposite now a days!
My sister have had, purple, bright red and pink hair( but of course not at the same time)
Wow! What about you? :0
I’ve gone from dark-blonde to dark red, photo’s coming soon on my blog!
Look forward to it.
Emma Stone in naturally blonde but I’m use to seeing her with her red hair ever since Superbad so it’s going to take a while to get use to XD I’ve never been brave enough to dye my hair but I do like my hair colour so I guess that’s a perk
However I do wonder if it would make a difference if my hair was darker then it is (it’s dark brown and looks chocolate in the sun but for some reason I have the lightest hair colour out of my siblings – they all have black). Oh well something to add to my list of things to do before my hair is no more
Yeah! Do try it out… or a wig maybe. I think trying on wigs would be so fun
And yeah… I did hear Emma is a natural blonde. She looks amazing as a redhead, can’t wait to see that again.
I used to dye my hair blonde when I was in high school. I thought it was cool back then but thinking about it, it was maybe too blonde. Now I’m thinking of dying it red..
Red seems to be really popular. I hope you do it, I think it’ll look great with your green eyes.
I have black hair and went through a phase of dying it bright red, the colour washed out really quickly so I ended up with really brassy hair for ages which took a really long time to grow out. I’m back to black now
I had really brassy hair too when I used to dye it. So annoying!
Hm… I was pretty bad in high school. I went bright, deep red, then blonde my junior year (about like Emma’s hair up there), and then I decided I wanted auburn so I did that. Then sometime before my senior year photos, in an attempt to get my natural ashy blonde back, my hair was this weird reddish brown color. Now it’s all natural. I was contemplating going blonde again, actually! Ironic that your blog has this post. =)
Haha oh dear. Seems like we both went a bit crazy in highschool
Have you decided to go blonde?
Ah, not quite. I’m broke right now, so dying my hair might not be the best idea. Lol.
I am blonde but I always wanted to be brunette when I was younger so once I got a friend to dye my hair chocolate brown or at least it was supposed to be brown… When I dried my hair I was pretty shocked to see it hat gone red! It was kind of an orangy brown colour so it didn’t look too bad, it just was not what I’d expected.. Oh, and it was only a few days before Christmas that this, let’s call it accident, happened, so there’s loads of pictures of myself with red hair on Christmas, New Year’s and so on…
Now I’ve actually learned to appreciate my blonde hair as there’s not too many natural blondes anymore
You are SO right! Blondes are beautiful and are becoming rare… embrace your uniqueness
I’ve changed my hair colour quite abit. Natural colour’s black-brown. For me I think I look best with Jet Black or Flaming Red. I have this honey blonde colour going on now but i don’t really feel comfortable with it. I’ve had orange hair once too, but that was an accident. I was going for red. I’m thinking of darkening the top of my head with an ashy brown to g for that ombre effect lol, we’ll see.
Oh ombre hair would be so cool.
I once had orange too, a big accident… definitely didn’t like having Ronald McDonald hair
I found who did the makeup! here it is http://www.rachelgoodwin.com/2010/12/emma-stone-trevor-project/ I’m def gonna try it:D
AH! Marie! I was writing a post on Emma’s makeup… I’ll include this. Thank you SO much. Where did you find this? What a great find, thank you.
I searched who did her makeup in Google after I read your post and found it
You’re welcome! x
I also found what she wore! xD
The dress is from Roksanda Ilincic’s 2010 collection:

And the shoes are the Maniac Pumps by Brian Atwood:

Lol.. I’m a Google maniac xD
You should get a platinum blonde with a very blunt fringe!!!I think it’ll look great on u.
Sadly, I’m too tanned for that look.
And no matter how hard I coloured(salon/home), my natural black shows through.bummer.
Oh haha I think that’s a bit too much for me! But maybe a wig for fun? I’d really like that!
But I think tanned skin would look great with blonde, you should try it!
I’ve done every color there is I think. I’ve gone from platinum to black to bright red to light brown to pink to blue to combinations of all of these. If nothing else hair will always grow back so if you have to chop it off because of a bad dye job or to go from black to blonde its not big deal. I also have 3 wigs, a blonde, a red and a black in case I don’t feel like completely changing my color I can for just a night. I think hair color is just like any other accessory and you’ve got to experiment. Luckily I have the type of skin color, light with yellow undertones, that I can get away with just about any color. Right now my hair is a combination of beige blonde and dark brown. I’m so glad I picked this because shortly after I became pregnant and unable to dye my hair and this has helped to make my dark roots blend in.
I so agree that haircolor is a great accessory and all your changes sound like so much fun! Which color was your favorite?
And congrats on your pregnancy! How exciting.
I have naturally light blond hair. I got the lower half dyed black at a hair dresser when I was 15 or so. Which turned into rusty brown in a few weeks. 4 years later I had bright red and purple. But because these colours fade quickly I went for dark black with a blond piece in my fringe. Then entirely black. And now I am trying to bleach a part back into white
So I went from light to darkish to darkkk. It is quite an upkeep but to change back to my original colour I would need to bleach (=destroy) it several times…so I stay with my black tresses
That’s great! I hope you like your black hair.
And yeah, bleach is really bad for your hair.
I was very much afraid of the chemicals they are adding nowadays , specially ammonia. My fav is Dark red hair ….
Beth
I went all shades of brown and blonde… and for the past 2 years I’ve been experimenting with red. Loving red so far haha! And if the colour is done by a professional stylist, it doesn’t take much maintenance (Everyone knows red is a high-maintenance colour) to keep the colour actually
Oh, and I have really really black hair (Which my boyfriend loves, but on curly/wavy hair it just looks flat unfortunately), which takes quite a lot of effort to dye D:
I did a full on red once. And then ORANGE
That was freaky. At the end of the day, natural suited me best. Haven’t had a dye job in 3 years now. My hair cries sweet relief
She looks absolutely stunning. I’ve saved the picture for my little inspiration folder. Her hair and makeup are gorgeous!
Omg, love Emma Stones new look! I wish I had her complexion to pull this look off! Its beautiful, like really buttery… its a shame I’ve got black hair and it would take me like 4x dye and would totally fry it out. I think I personally like t better than the red..x
I actually change my hair colour constantly.
From brown to black to blonde to bright red to dull red to orange to pink to blue, to multicoloured, I think I’ve done just about every damn colour there is! Don’t be afraid to experiment, wear it loud and wear it proud!!
Oh man! I love Emma Stone so much as both a blonde and a redhead. As a winged eyeliner enthusiast I can agree that her makeup artist did an exquisite job.
I find myself having to rise to the challenge of naming all of my various hair colors. Here we go! (This WILL be long…)
I’m a natural medium brunette. The highlights probably started at age 11. First entire head experience was red in the 7th grade. (It’s Ariel’s fault!!!) That didn’t really show up, so I went DARK chocolate brown. Next came a dark auburn. After that was jet black which I let fade to dark brown. The summer after 8th grade involved bleaching and dying the ends of my hair hot pink. Then back to black. Then I started dying it red and had this black hair with red roots and highlights look going. I finally broke down and bleached and dyed it red. With Christmas break came a pink bottom layer shortly followed by an entire, accidental, head of pink. (The picture was red.) Back to red for school. Then I dyed it black… The summer after 10th grade I discovered blue hair dye. It turned green on the parts that were a yellowy blonde. Then pink was added for purple sections. Then I discovered hair color remover, and it was used so I could get a light orangey red. Then my hair was doused in Vampire Red, and I was finally Ariel. I left that, but school said it was pink, so the color remover was used to make it almost a very red strawberry blonde. Then I bleached it two times. Believe me it looked like I bleached it two times. So it was back to black a week later. Then we start in on the dying it red and are back to the black and red look. Summer was back and so was the bleach. This time we tried Pillarbox Red. Only use that if you want fairy puke pink. I loved it, but no… So Vampire Red made a comeback. Then Automic Turquoise was used to make some sections a VERY dark purple. That got removed and left bleach blonde. Then I tried a different red and Ariel didn’t want to lose reign over my head, so I removed color. Then dyed it again, only to discover how bright that color was. So I put brown over it and got a really cool auburn color. Then I dyed it a VERY dark red. The last experiment left me with a dark but somehow really bright red. For the record I plan on an entire head of Automic Turquoise after graduation. I might throw in snippets of the rest of the rainbow with it, though…
I think it’s quite obvious that red is my favorite on me.
Sorry it’s so long, but hair is something I could probably write an essay length of thoughts on.
I literally, half an hour ago, put pink in my hair. I couldn’t be bothered bleaching it, and my hair is only partially blonde, so I put pink in those bits because I felt like it. I’ve been blonde, brunette, red, purple, pink. I often get approached for hair modelling so I just let them do what they want with my hair.
