It sometimes surprises me how good a friend my BFF Christine is. I shouldn’t be surprised, of course, because she is amazing, but sometimes I’m just in awe of her kindness. (I’m also surprised at my horrible timing – I got this package for Christmas last year, and am only blogging about it now… shameful.)
Anyway, Christine sent me this nice little package last Christmas full of beauty goodies – that’s kind of a unwritten rule with us. We always give “main” gifts, and then throw in a bunch of beauty samples we got. (The “main” gift this time were Aigner sunglasses – thanks C!) I am always excited to get beauty stuff from the UK because my fellow Singaporeans will know we there are some really cool brands that you can’t get here. (Although I have to say with Sephora opening up a few years ago, this has changed greatly – I’m very impressed!)
So far, I have tried the Korres Cherry Lip Gloss and the Rimmel Vinyl Gloss (which sparked my lip gloss obsession). Expect reviews from the others soon, especially Too Faced Shadow Insurance – I’ve never tried an eyeshadow primer before (are they really necessary?!) but have heard tons of stuff about it so I’m looking forward to that.
Do you send beauty packages to your friends too? Or do you do participate in beauty “swaps”? They seem really popular in beauty communities and forums online!

Have never sent beauty packages, but have exchanged the use of my Disneyland annual pass for a MAC lip gloss and eye shadow…. (YES)!
But I will tell you that the eye shadow primer is a MUST! I have recently started using the Bare Minerals Primetime eyelid primer and my eye shadow needs no refreshing for a full 8 hour work day at least!
There are others that swear by the urban decay primer. I have yet to try it, but don’t doubt its awesome because of all the reviews I’ve read. I’ve only used the bare minerals one cause I liked the sample in a magazine.
Love your blog!
Thank you, Lola. (And I love your name.)
I’ve been kinda lucky with eyeshadow so far – Bobbi Brown and MAC make some good ones and Coastal Scents actually lasts a long time! I think I should test out the eye primer on a long night out – that would be the ultimate test! Will let you all know how it goes, I’ve heard SO MUCH about Urban Decay’s one as well.
Never sent a beauty package but this might be something I’ll have to start soon…
Eyeshadow primer is god sent if you have oily eyelids! I love Too Faced Shadow Insurance, it works wonders on me even if I’m using drugstore type eyeshadows. I prefer it to the much raved about Urban Decay Primer Potion. I’ve reviewed it here: http://www.cheapchicblog.com/2010/06/shadow-insurance.html
Oh, you should! Beauty packages are fun! Do it!
Will check it out your review now, thanks!
There is a really good Laura Mercier eyeshadow that acts as a primer, which I’ve had for years – it comes in a tube like a lipgloss and is skin coloured. I find I need primers more in Singapore as the humidity causes everything to melt, although to be honest, most of the time I find it too hot for eyeshadow and just pop a bit of highlighter on my lids to cover any redness.
I agree, eyeshadow primers in theory would be really good (and needed) here… good grief it’s hot and stuffy here. Have you tried MAC eyeshadows? So far they last really long so I’ve never needed a primer. (MAC shadows are the best!)
And I love Laura Mercier so I’ll have to keep a look out for that… thanks for the recommendation!
I tend to have oily skin and oily eyelids so eye primers are a must for me. I use Too Faced Shadow Insurance and trust me, not only does it help keep my eyeshadows smear free but it intensifies the colour. Try a swatch with a primer and without one to see for your self but I don’t put on my makeup without primers…period.
Ooh… I like the sound of “intensifies the color.” Me likely very much! And thanks for the tip – you know what, I think I’ll try one eye with primer and one without as an experiment and report soon!
