Eyeshadow Up To Your Eyebrows – Crazy or Cool?

August 5, 2010

So… applying eyeshadow all the way to your eyebrows – is it crazy or cool? Have you ever done this before? I personally haven’t and don’t plan to anytime soon. I like to keep my shadow a little past my crease and know for sure if I extended it to my eyebrows, I’d look mad! But for this lovely model (at the Derek Lam Fall fashion show) and for some others, it really works and looks great… just not on me. It’ll be a ‘crazy’ for me this time ’round!

OK spill – how do you normally do your eyeshadow? Would you ever apply it all the way to your eyebrows?

I think it really really depends on your facial structure. On some people it will look lovely, and on others ghastly & over the top.

I agree. The model suits it so well. I tried it once with highlighting powder (shimmer pearl) and I looked disgusting, haha! So I’m def not even gonna ATTEMPT a darker color up to my eyebrows :-P

I agree it works great with this model. I think a great deal depends on face shape, hairstyle and occasion. I mean, it’s a bit over the top for daily use, while for a special night out it might give you that edge you are looking for.

This model DOES look great w/ it, but I think most often it looks good with lighter shades. I’ve worn it with a light pewter grey and a light green, both of which look terrific. But darker shades will be harder to pull off.

Ah yeah, I think darker shades will be harder to pull off. Pewter gray sounds so pretty, by the way! Which eyeshadow was that? :)

I think it looks cool if you have the face and eye shape to pull it off. I often wear eyeshadow all the way to my brows, but the upper colors are always light “highlighter” shades. A solid color like this would not work with my face/eye shape.

Ah Amanda where have you been? I’ve missed you! :-P Yeah, I think highlighter shades are much easier and looks great to the brows, however I have tried that in the past and it looked really weird with my eyeshape, etc.

I’ve been reading, just haven’t had energy for commenting much. I had some health issues that needed to be sorted out, but everything is much better now so I’m getting on with it. :) I’ve missed talking with you, too!

Eyeshape makes such a difference in how people can wear their eyeshadow. There are some great looks I see on the web that I would LOVE to do, but I know with my hooded eyes the effort would be wasted.

Personally, I think it’s one of those things that looks cool on the runway, but not as cool in real life.

Yeah, especially darker colors look a bit odd, but it really depends on the person, I think! By the way I checked out your site, are you Eurasian? :D

The model looks great with it, but I think this look is better for editorials than real life. I like to wear highlighting shades on my browbone, but I could never pull off such a strong color.

Yeah, I think lighter colors are much easier to ‘work’ with. It’s quite intense with dark colors!

Everything looks perfect on a pretty face. This makeup looks pretty easy to do, but it’s not – one wrong move and appearance like a porn star is ready :P
I totally admire her lipstick !

Oh her lipstick is so beautiful, I agree! I like its tint of gold :)

Hi! I’m a new follower!

I think eyeshadow up to the brow is too crazy for everyday, but I do like the shade of blue and the color of the lipstick!

Hey Fay, glad to have you. Welcome! :) I agree, I think the makeup colors combo is really pretty. :D

i gotta say it’s pretty cool, as long as you can pull it off

Yeah, makeup is like that – sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t! Depends on the person :D

I almost always wear eyeshadow up to my brows, but always a light color, never a dark one like that.

Ah yeah, for highlighting the brow bone? :D

I like her lipstick, and the ring! The eyeshadow… not so much, it’d look great on a catwalk, but a little strange for everyday wear. I don’t really wear eyeshadow, as it dosen’t suit my eyeshape, however highlighter looks good on your browbone :) X

OMG this is amazing! I’d love to try it, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to pull it off. BTW could you please tell me which fashion show/designer had this makeup? Thanks a lot!

Well, I have really small eyelids so I have to be carefull about doing that haha. But no, I don´t like it, specially when when they do it with strong eyeshadows, like this blue. I see that all the time and I think it ruins the whole look.

The model is Liu Wen. Like her very much. The focus seemed to be the eyeshadow but it was the ring I’m after. :) Donno where to get one to the same effect.?

Patricia August 17, 2010 at 09:10

it may be that it mostly works on those who have a smaller lid space than it does on those who have a larger lid space

Jyoan August 20, 2010 at 14:15

Actually, I ALWAYS do this since I started makeup. hahaha. I find it so incomplete if I stop at just the eyelids! Can’t stand that skin colour gap in between.

HA! i’ve tried putting eye shadow all the up to my brow, honestly i’d have to say.. i looked like i was apart of the mardigras… really does not work out for me !!

This can work but the key is to down play your eyelashes. That would be too much. One dramatic area at a time–for focus and use of a complimentary skin colour make all the difference.

I’m not a huge fan – in general – but some people (like the girl in the pic you posted) can pull it off quite well :)

I think if it is a neutral toned shade or one that is your skin tone but a little sparkly it works! I don’t know if I would wear the blue all over lol…I love your blog by the way!
