Donut Do This to Me, Etsy!

…As if I need another place to spend money (I don’t have) on!

Sigh.

I am not a big fan of shopping. I know I’m a girl and it’s supposedly in my DNA, but I really don’t like it too much. The crowd! The queues! THE HEAT! I can’t. Shopping is so tiring in this humidity, I tell you. I only like shopping with my Mom,’cause she’s very much like me: we get our crap and get the eff out! One hour is our limit for shopping. But online shopping? Now that’s another story…

I discovered eBay when I was 16 and went slightly mad. Within a couple of weeks, I blew about a thousand bucks on the most random, stupid things – like snow boots. SNOW BOOTS IN SINGAPORE? Really, 16-year-old me?! My parents were livid and banned me from eBay, and because I still had a lot (read: 15) items still unpaid, I got blacklisted from eBay and they closed my account.

But that didn’t stop me. I made another account secretly, only eBay found out it was me and I got a “BANNED FOR LIFE” email. Sheesh! I was so obsessed that I spent 3 months emailing back and forth with eBay Singapore, trying to get an account and convince them I wasn’t a criminal. Eventually I gave up, but it’s YOUR LOSS eBay! ‘Cause now I’ve found Etsy. ;)

I have been hearing about Etsy for ages but never dared to sign up, due to my crazy online shopping ways. But the other week, at 2am, I had to. I was so excited. I didn’t have anything I wanted to buy per se, nor did I know any cool shops… so I “searched” whatever came to my mind. And what do I think about at 2am?! RAINBOW SPRINKLED DONUTS. Yummeh. I searched and found these cute little donut necklaces. Unfortunately the one on the left was much larger than I expected – a little too ridiculous if you ask me, not sure when I will ever wear this – but the mini donut necklace is adorable.

In other words, I am so happy with my little donuts. You should check Etsy if you are into fun, unique stuff. It’s like eBay plus the cute, crafty factor. I love it! (I wonder how long before I am banned for life?)

Do you shop on Etsy? Do you have any favorite stores? Please share!

you could turn the big donut into a keyring, or you could hang it from your handbag or gym bag :)

Tehehe, I bought one of these in China as a keyring for 10 yuan = a pound in England. It smells like actual chocolate!

Renee July 13, 2011 at 15:20

Ooh! I forgot to write that the big one is scented… it smells like an actual donut. Yuuuummmy.

And ugh I am SO turning the big one into a keyring! So adorable.

P.S. China is the best haha.

I’m the same when it comes to shopping, I don’t really like it much and I prefer to go with my mum. I usually only go when i know what i want or have an idea of what i want, I can’t do what my friends do who go shopping a few times a week, and whenever they want to go out i PRAY they don’t want to shop, they shop for HOURS and i’m always just hangin about thinkin ‘LETS GO ALREADY!!’ lol .. and omg u got banned from ebay?! haha XD .. i mean, how sad.. not funny at all.. really.
I’m not so bad when it comes to online shopping, i prefer seeing clothes in person/trying them on, rather than ordering them online (returning them if i don’t like them seems like too much effort :P ) I mostly buy books and various accessories online .. i’m gonna have to take a look at Etsy though, sounds good :)

Sona xx

Sona I am just like you! In middle school ALL the girls ever wanted to do was shop after school and I always made excuses. Once I decided to go and OMG 4 HOURS OF PURE HELL. My best friend is also shopping mad, I once went with her (since she was visiting the country) and after 8 hours I said I HAD to go. I called her the next day and she said she stayed on for another 5 hours, that’s 13 HOURS OF SHOPPING! My goodness how do these women do it?! They have legs of steel, I’m far too lazy!

You should check out Etsy. But I am not responsible if you get addicted ;)

OMG etsy is the place i go to everyday!!! I buy something from there at least once a week , most of the time is a few items together (from the same seller) so i can save on shipping, I gotten all my vintage and handmade clothes n bags n rings n necklace and n n n … from there, its awesome!!!
A tip – don’t be afraid to ask for a little discount (especially if you are buying more than one item) from the sellers, most of them are super nice and even if they reject your request they are stil pretty nice about it.
I hope you can find more wonderful stuff there !!!
ps most of my salaries goes there so i also hope you don’t find TOO many wonderful stuff there!!!

Oh you can try ASOS too, free international shipping and their quality is really good too :D shop there once in a while and I just gotten a leather jacket and a clutch bag , now waiting for them to reach me.

Renee July 13, 2011 at 15:25

Ooh thanks Cathy! Omg DO NOT lure me into ASOS hahaha! My wallet is screaming already! I have seen it, it looks SO good but it’s kinda expensive, no? They are a few hundred dollars for a dress, right? :(

Reply

Cathy July 16, 2011 at 23:08

No no no you got to lOok for the asos line , the other brands costs much more . The leather jacket cost just over S$200 real leather n if you were to get something like that style (hopefully the quality is as good as the dress i gotten) on other website or the shops here it’s gonna cost min. S$300++ …
You can check out the sale item better if you go on their mailing list but if your wallet is freaking out like mine it might not be such a great idea .

I love physically shopping, especially for clothes (Since some clothes look nice on the rack/on models but is a totally different story when I try it on) and with my Mum because her sense of style is superb! :D My boyfriend takes me window shopping at least once a week- just walking around malls seeing what’s new and stuff, too. But I can’t do a marathon shopping spree- my attention and patience wanes too fast and I’m slightly agoraphobic (That’s why I do my shopping on weekdays) haha!

I also love online shopping, because there are a lot of things that I can’t get here and sometimes some stuff are cheaper online :P In other words I love the variety. My favourite stores are ASOS (Free shipping, gorgeous albeit expensive stuff), StrawberryNET (Also free shipping, variety and some good bargains) and also Etsy. Etsy is pure evil!

You’re amazing, Steph. I don’t know how you guys can walk around! I go crazy and I’m so lazy XD Oh yeah, and I totally agree with shopping on weekdays. If I must go I make sure it’s weekdays in the late morning so NO one is around. So anti social haha.

Stephanie/Yukaeshi July 13, 2011 at 23:54

I can’t walk around blindly, though! I need to have to be looking for something- maybe dresses, or perfume, or books, or bags… it has to be “themed”, or else I’d go crazy too XD Oh yeah, weekdays in the late morning, and I leave before dinnertime to avoid as many people as I can hahaha!

iherb! its my favourite place to stock up on organic shampoos and soap bars. You can find avalon products there too. The shipping prices are also pretty reasonable and reliable :)

Renee July 13, 2011 at 15:28

Ooooh that sounds so good… I love organic shower products! OK I am going to search it now, thanks Amelia. :)

I love etsy! I used to sell handmade things on there, but haven’t been doing it for a while.

I’m so with you on the shopping front! I have not got the patience any more to do “real life” shopping. It feels like far too much effort to put up with other people and trawl through shops and rails of clothes. Internet shopping is a whole other story though! I seem to have all the patience in the world to click through page after page of things, haha!

Reply

Renee July 13, 2011 at 15:28

Haha same! I can click through pages and pages and pages but if I walk around to more than 2 shops I am exhausted and over it. :-P

What did you use to sell on Etsy? That sounds like so much fun.

Cheryl July 19, 2011 at 01:27

The first thing I sold was a vinyl record clock (http://www.etsy.com/transaction/177624) , then I sold a few pieces of origami jewellery & bookmarks, and more recently hand dyed wool yarn. Haven’t really sold much though, it’s a ton of fun but such hard work in such a saturated market place!

I love etsy! All the handmade nail sets, so cute!

I like online shopping better but for a different reason. If I am looking at things in a store, it’s like…. I have it in my hands, and all I have to do is walk up to the counter and it will be mine! I am kind of weak like that. But if I shop online I have to seriously consider if I want it, is it worth waiting for?

I love Etsy!! Mine is: http://www.etsy.com/people/erinfandozzi
I don’t have much on there, but it’s fun to see how many people view my art and include my work in their favorites :)

They have this cute little shoe pattern which makes me want o buy for a weekend project. And @ Erin, your art – they are loveable.
