Do You Have A Signature Scent?

October 8, 2009

I thought today it would be nice to talk about our signature scents, or a few of our favorites fragrances. :) Perfume is such an interest of mine because fragrance is so beautiful – there are so many memories I instantly go back to after I smell certain scents. I also think perfumes are a great, romantic and personal gift. I also love to look at the bottles – they are like artwork to me. I have a few perfumes that I like to rotate around, but I most definitely have a signature scent! Here are some of my favorites …

1. Valentino V Absolu. This is my signature scent. I think I sampled it in a Vogue when I was 18 (which means it was meant to be – I don’t remember ever buying a Vogue; must’ve been borrowed) and it smelt so warm and sexy I had to have it. Unfortunately I have heard it has recently been discontinued, but no matter – luckily for me I am crazy and obsessive, so once I found out I loved this scent I bought 2 bottles as back up. So according to my calculations, I can use this for at least 5 more years. It is vanilla based and was named one of the most ‘naughty, exotic scents’ (or something like that) in Allure, and sure enough, it is! It is vanilla based, my favorite scent, and has woody and floral notes. It smells like vanilla but a bit more exotic, and it just feels very ‘me’. I believe the best compliment I have gotten from it was ‘you smell like a f—ing rose!’ which I think means it’s a success.

2. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. I mentioned in my review some time back that this was my very first fragrance. I believe I smelt it in Teen People magazine and was drawn to the super hot model in the ad campaign. My mom bought it for me right before I started high school – in my review I wrote I asked for it for Christmas, but I had gotten it earlier – so every time I smell it, it reminds me of school; being young, free and stupid. It is very citrus based and could smell like detergent to some, but it’s a very fresh scent. I like to spray it on when I’m going out in the afternoon or morning when the sun is shining; it’s such a happy, carefree scent. I also like to wear it when I am active and exercising – you know, those very rare moments. ;)

3. Jean Paul Gaultier Classique. This was given to me on my 20th birthday by an ex. It’s a very classic (you don’t say?!) evening scent, so I only wear it at fancy occasions. I don’t know how to explain it but it just smells very oriental and expensive. A little black dress and diamonds would go perfectly with this fragrance. I think the bottle captures the scent perfectly – it’s sexy, classy, stylish and womanly – how freaking gorgeous is it?! It looks amazing sitting on my shelf.

4. Prada Amber Homme. I don’t have this scent but I have given it to a few of my male friends because it is just heavenly. Seriously, this is the best male fragrance there is, and sometimes when I’m at the department stores I just spray it on myself. Actually, I don’t know why I just shouldn’t buy it for myself – it’s that good. In fact, I love it so much that I am now claiming that my future husband will wear this and only this for the rest of his life … poor guy. But seriously, this is one sexy, weird – in a good way – scent.

5. The Body Shop Vanilla. Like I wrote above, I’ve always loved vanilla (especially ice cream) so a few years ago I wanted to hunt down a pure vanilla fragrance. The first shop I thought of was The Body Shop, since they have ranges for Lavender, Rose and all that jazz. The Body Shop here, however, sells every range of products except the Vanilla range, which I find very odd – who doesn’t love vanilla?! So when I was in Milan two years ago I bought it there, and it still is not even half way done! I love vanilla and this just smells so calm. I like to wear this on days I’m not ‘doing much’ like being very hip visiting the dentist or running errands. Sometimes I wear this to sleep because it’s so calming and warm.

6. Calvin Klein CK One. I only knew about this scent after an ex-boyfriend wore it religiously, and I love it. How he smelt was probably the only good thing about him, hehe. It’s a fresh scent, effortlessly sexy and so ‘clean’. I might like it more than Light Blue – they are both similar in the sense they are fresh and clean, but perhaps CK One smells a little more sexy? I can’t decide. I love them all!

Alors! That’s my list of some of my favorite scents. There are so many new scents in the market that keep coming up and I’m interested in, but I’m a loyal girl (hehe) – I’ll probably stick to these forever. What are some of your favorite scents? And do you have a signature scent that is ‘you’? I’d love to hear, I really love fragrances! :)

Awesome ones that you have in post! Signature scent? hmm plenty of them, but I’ll name the three favorites of mine! HAHA.

First of all, CK One is awesome! Just like you mentioned them “smells a little more sexy and fresh” it does actually! But the new CK Summer just launched sometime this year, I would say a thumbs up for that! Most of CK fragrance are totally incredible!

Secondly, Burberry The Beat – MEN, it has a strong romance fragrance ! For men, I bet people around you gonna have a second look at you due to the strong attraction fragrance they produce! Try them and you know what I mean. hahaa! I’m not sure for The Beat – Women, but The Men are great! “Sometimes I just get headache with the strong fragrance” haha!

Thirdly, DKNY Be Delicious either both men or women are stunning! You have to try them on! Kinda apple-ish and sweettt fragrance I would say. Nice too, but not too much or else it smell odd!

Well, that’s are my favorites! All time the best fragrance launched in 2009! I bet there’s still more good fragrance out there that every girl or guy has it. I don’t want to share them all, but you guys should! And some fragrance does tell about your personality too! But don’t use them too much or else, the person beside you gonna be suffocate! hahaha Cheers!

Thanks so much for your comment, Raimy. :) I like how it’s so descriptive. I agree that CK makes great fragrances, I def like the older ones though – Obsession, CK One, they’re all classics. And I tried Burberry The Beat for women and I quite liked it too – a very fresh scent, a bit like Light Blue and CK One. :-P However I must say I respectfully disagree with you on Be Delicious, haha. My friend uses it and it smells wonderful on her, but it’s a little too apple-like for me!

And yes to not suffocating the person around you – I hate it when you can smell the person from half way across the room and when they come close your nose itches :-P Not more than 2 sprays, people!

Hmmm I don’t really have a signature scent because I mix 3 different perfumes at a time to create my own fragrance and everyday it is 3 diff combinations! But majority of the time Chance by Chanel or Ck One by Calvin Klein is in the mix. People always stop and ask what I’m wearing and I just say everything haha xo

Renee October 9, 2009 at 00:00

Aw Amber I used to do that too. I loved a few at a time I would just spray them all over me, but then I’d smell awful ’cause they all smell so different :-P I love that everyone like CK One! You all have good taste :-P

Is Chance Chanel the one with the green round bottle? The ad campaign for that was so cute!

Yepp, it also comes in the golidsh color too that’s the one i have.

I try to mix scents with similar hints so I don’t smell weird sometimes. But most of the time I do end up mixing random things lol.
:)

Aww haha. I’ll have to start mixing again! That way you’ll def get a very unique perfume ;)

And btw your blog is so cool! I know nothing about fashion personally but I love looking admiring it :)

I would love to try out The Body Shop Vanilla perfume! Vanilla is my favourite scent (and ice cream flavour haha) and I wish the shops here carried it! I can wistfully remember they also had this exclusive range of perfumes and there was a certain scent called “Pink Pepper” which would have been my signature scent today if they still carried it, oh well.

My current signature scents are Annick Goutal’s Petit Cherie which is in the most gorgeousssss bottle ever, complete with a teeny tiny ribbon and Paul Smith’s Rose which has the most delightful tea rose scent!

We should probably go on an ice cream date then! All my friends say I’m so boring for always having vanilla while their ice cream looks like something you find on the floor after a lot of alcohol. :-P

For me, I owned only two perfumes; Lavin Eclat D’Arpege & Armani Code. I cannot express how much I loooooooove Eclat. I don’t kn0w, it has this calming effect on me and smells soooo nice.

And when I first came across Armani Code, it smells really sexy and sophisicated, and I really liked it. I bought it when I landed on my first job after graduation and wear it on when I feel powerful (haha, what an illusion! I am only an executive in my department in a big org.)

Oh, I used to wear Gucci Envy Me 2, and it reminded me of my poly days and the memories of knowing my boyfriend.

Renee October 9, 2009 at 00:04

Oh Janis I remember sneaking a lot of samples of Eclat, it smells very much like Light Blue, by the way, they both are very ‘fresh’ and citrusy… at least that’s what I remember of it! It’s a small round purple bottle, right? With a little image on it?

And pfftt to ‘illusion’. You ARE powerful! And you have a great position at your job, don’t be so hard on yourself! I’d love to be an executive one day! I also like Armani Code and love the bottle and was going to buy it but for some reason I never did in the end …!

Oh perfume, truly my first love on the world of makeup and beauty products!
I’ve had affairs with Versace Bright Crystal, Missoni, Viktor & Rolf’s flowerbomb, Miss Dior Cherie, and Giorgio by Armani (yes it’s for men, but sooooo sexy)

Hey iCandy. :) I must say perfume is one of my true loves too! I’d love to create my own fragrance one day (one can wish huh?). And I agree on the Armani for men! Isn’t that scent one of the best selling male fragrance of all time? Or was it another one? :S

i love estee lauder pleasures, I have been using it for as long as I can remember now. It’s a beautiful, seductive scent. Great for special occasions, but everyday I don’t wear perfume!!!!

My mom uses Pleasures too. :) It’s pretty strong though, you have to put on very little! But you’re right, it is a beautiful scent, very mature and mysterious! :)

Hm.. My signature scents would be Lolita Lempicka and Burberry the Beat. I love them both!
Whenever I needed to feel sexy, lady-like =), I’ll use Lolita. The smell is a heaven.. Fruity. A spritz or two is just enough.

As for Burberry the Beat, I love the fact that it smells fresh, very modern. I’ll use it to be more confident, at a class presentation maybe. JANIS, is Lanvin Eclat that good? Might wanna try it in future.

Renee, what’s your fav, can’t live-without perfume?

Renee October 11, 2009 at 04:02

Hey Nadia… Thanks for your comments! I have heard a lot about Lolita but haven’t seen it around here.

And my fave perfumes are all in the post above! But I think my favorite is V Absolu :) Too bad it’s now gone! :(

Hi Renee – great post, and beautiful selection! I can’t live without my Prada classic and Alien and Angel by Thierry Mugler. But right now am loving Estee Lauder Sensuous, such a delicious and beautiful scent. :)

Hey Yani – you have a beautiful selection too! I looooved Alien as well a few years ago but it was too expensive for me for my budget. I love the scent though; you have great taste! :) I have seen Sensuous all around but haven’t tried it yet, I will have to!

I love Lacoste “Touch of Pink” as a daytime scent. It smells sooo light and fruity, yet extremely sexy. For evening, I wear Caroline Herrara 212 Sexy for women or Calvin Klein Euphoria.

For guys, omg… Caroline Herrara 212 Sexy for men. It is the best smelling stuff in the world! One year, I wanted my family to meet my boyfriend at the time and my mom went straight over to him and started smelling his neck, “wow, you smell good! Jackie, what cologne is he wearing? We need to buy your father some. Oldspice doesn’t smell this good” LOL! That’s how amazing it is. It smells so clean and fresh and sexy. A few years later, I was dating another guy and what do you know, he wore the same exact cologne! Lucky me :) I also think that the Polo cologne in the green bottle smells pretty nice too. But first pick for any guys reading your blog: buy 212 Sexy for men! Your girlfriends will love it and if you’re single, you’ll catch their attention ;-) I think they secretly put pheromones in it or something haha.

Renee October 12, 2009 at 13:45

Hey Jackie

Oh I used to have CK Euphoria but after awhile the scent became a little too much for me. It smelt beautiful on my friend but when i wore it I stunk up the whole room :-P But I’m sure it smells sexy on you! Funny how scents can smell so differently on others huh?!

And thanks for the guys recommendation! I haven’t tried any of Caroline Herrara but I’ll have to look out for it now since you have such high praises for it! Kinda like me and that Prada Amber for men… daaamn that thing smells good! ;)

Thanks for your comment, Jackie! :)

I use Angel by Thierry Mugler and Nina by Nina Ricci. I usually wear Nina durng the day and if I’m going out I’ll wear Angel.

Hey Danielle! :)

Aw, I wish I knew which ones you were talking about but I haven’t tried either one yet – but I know Angel by Thierry Mugler is insanely popular. You’ll have to show me someday when you’re here :)

I love the perfumes from Valentino and CK especially. During the summer I like to wear Valentino V d’ete ( I’m already bored by the Classic Valentino V) and Rock’n Rose is among my top 3 favorite fragrances together with Euphoria Classic ( and Blossom during the summer ) by Calvin Klein and Secret Obsession :) . If I had to admit I have and addiction then it will be Perfumes

Renee October 13, 2009 at 23:43

Tavia you;re so lucky you get Valentino perfumes! They used to sell it here only at the airport (where I got mine) but now they’ve stopped selling it there, and stopped its production! I’ll have to hunt down the other Valentino V’s; I had no idea there was a summer version. I am so deprived here of Valentino perfumes! :-P I liked Rock and Rose too, but never bought it.

I like Secret Obsession too! You have great tastes in fragrance; I also have a small addiction to them, especially the beautiful bottles :)

I am still so into Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline, though this is not a new scent already… Can’t seem to find anything that I like better.

I find a lot of the newer scents out there today a bit cliche, I haven’t found any of the recent ones that I liked so much I had to buy. I love the classics, too. :)

For several years I looked around, trying to find a “signature scent” that would fit my personality, that I could stand to wear, etc. I’m kind of OCD so I won’t use different scented products, i.e. shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, perfume – I had to use similar or identical scents of all because I can’t stand smelling like several different things. Anyway, a friend of mine had recieved a Britney Spears Fantasy lip gloss set and gave it to me. I used it once or twice and like the sugary scent it had. A few months later, I wore it on my first date with my boyfriend, who commented on it saying that he liked it. One of the things I love about this fragrance is that it’s not a bold or overpowering scent – you don’t smell it when you walk into the room. It’s the kind of scent that a guy will smell if he’s got his arms around you. *Smile* Its notes are red lychee, golden quince, kiwi, cupcake accord, jasmine petals, white chocolate orchid, musk, orris root and sensual woods. It initially smells fruity, then very sweet, showing the promised smells of cupcake and white chocolate, with a very light floral smell. The word that comes to mind is “sugary” I found out that there was a lotion/body creme and a shower gel as well as the lip gloss and perfume, and immediately bought several of them. I’ve always thought it would be neat to have something that people {guys} would remember you by…..

Hi everyone :) . My all-time can’t-live-without-it scent is in fact a body spray – Ted Baker’s ‘Divine’ Body Mist. I got given it as a birthday present, and it stayed with me through my first part time job, all through uni and now I find out they’ve stopped making it! Luckily there are still one or two bottles floating around on ebay, thank goodness. It smells really warm, subtle and just a little bit mysterious – making you want to get closer.

I agree about the Body Shop’s vanilla eau de toilette – my friend wears it and people have told her before she smells like chocolate! I just wish they did a coconut one too.

Great post Renee :)
