Current Obsession: Lip Gloss

February 16, 2011

Oh dear. What is happening to me? I’m currently addicted to lipgloss, think cupcakes are cute, and I think am only 90% scared of babies now. Hmm… I think this is called “becoming a woman.”

But before I bore you with details of the cutest baby (EVER!) I saw the other day, I wanted to show you some of my favorite lip glosses I am using on rotation right now. All my life I have despised these sticky, goopy littleĀ things, but now I know they make SO much difference to your complete ‘look’. Seriously, I apply my makeup… and something is missing. I put on lipgloss, and BAM! All good. It’s like mascara for the eyes – your makeup is not complete without it. Seriously, where have I been?!

Hourglass Cosmetics Lipgloss

I can’t really say much about this lipgloss except that I loved Hourglass’ liquid liner, and I adore this lipgloss even more. Hmm… is Hourglass becoming my new favorite makeup line? I think so! The lipgloss is extremely smooth and non-sticky. It’s incredibly shiny and creates this “wet” look on your lips, so your lips look about 10 times it’s size, and the lasting power is fairly good (a few hours.) The only thing I don’t like about this is the packaging – it’s just all over the place. I love the idea and I know they’re being innovative, but really… a normal wand would’ve been better – it’s a tad hard to apply.

The Body Shop High Shine Lip Treatment

This lipgloss was given to me just the other day, and I’ve already been using it whenever I can! It’s part of their Limited Brush With Fashion makeup collection (a collaboration with the London College of Fashion) and I’d definitely recommend you all to check it out! The color I have is Juicy Peach, and I really love it. It gives very little color, so it’s just a hint of peach. So if you apply it over your lipstick, it won’t overshadow your lipstick color, but instead compliment it with a slight tint and mega shine. I really like this one. OH! And before I forget – the scent… I want to eat it, that’s how yummy it smells.

Korres Lipgloss

I was so excited to try out Korres, as I’ve heard only good things about the brand. My BFF Christine sent me a package with all sorts of goodies last Christmas and this was in it, and I have to say I love this formula. It’s goopy, yes, but when I smack my lips together they kinda of “gel” together rather than stick together and make a mess. The scent is amazing, and the formula is a dream to apply – and it’s Korres! Everyone loves Korres, right? I’m starting to, too.

Rimmel Vinyl Lipgloss

Not much to say about this lipgloss. It makes my lips sorta dry – I notice my lips peel a bit about a few hours with this on, but the color is beautiful! So bright and cheery. It’s also not that sticky and really affordable, so this is my ‘emergency’ lipgloss, just in case.

I’d say my two absolute favorites are Hourglass’ and The Body Shop’s – they really are spectacular and I would recommend them 100%. They’re in different ends of the price range too – so if you’ve got some moolah to spend, then go for Hourglass’ lipgloss; but if you want something good and affordable, we all know The Body Shop is the place to be!

Do you like lipgloss? What are you using currently and which ones are your favorites? :) Past lipglosses I’ve tried and liked (though they are so old, I’ve thrown them away – should re-stock soon!) are Clinique’s Full Potential Lipgloss and Bare Escentuals’ Buxom Lips.

I’ve been obsessed with lip gloss for years – it’s the only thing I wear on my lips besides lip balm/chapstick. I love it, and I love cupcakes, but when it comes to babies, I’m 99% scared of them.

Haha… why are you scared of babies too? I’m scared I might drop them so I always refuse to carry them haha… they’re just so fragile and I’m SO scared of what might happen!

What are your favorite lipglosses?

I am in LOVE with TBS Hi-Shine Lip Treatment as well. Did you know it works well on chapped lips as well. I’ve seriously chapped lips and it really does wonders.

It’s one of my staples to work now. :)

Doesn’t it smell wonderful? OMG! And the brush is really nice and makes it smooth and easy to reply. :) Probably should’ve added that to the review, haha!

Oh my gosh, i agree! the brush with fashion lipgloss is the passionfruit smell!! I think. But, anyway, it smells soooo good. I’ve never been a fan of lipgloss, neither am I a lipstick sort of person but maybe all that will change. Btw, cupcakes ARE cute haha, whatchu talkin bout!
@Carol – you can find it at Sephora Singapore :) ION would be your best best since its huge.

It smells AMAZING! I want to eat it O_o

What do you use for your lips, then? Lipbalm or do you go au naturale? ;)

Haha yes, cupcakes are so cute! But I always thought they were TOO cute and girly so I was put off by them haha. But now I think they are adorable, what is happening to me?! :-P

P.S. Thanks for helping Carol out! I love it when readers help each other out :)

I dislike lipgloss because it quite often make my hair stick to my lips:(
+ the glossy finish is to much for me, Sure it’s pretty on others but…

i share the same woe as amanda, on days when the wind gets rowdy i often find myself eating my own hair euuughh!!! but i still dig lipgloss, esp soap and glory’s mother pucker :D like its plumping effect makes my lip look pouty with minimal effort!

Sometimes I think it’s funny how I’ll get into certain products and then I end up reading about them on here :)

I saw the Hourglass lip gloss at Sephora recently, but they only had a brownish shades, but the bottle did make me look twice.

Have you tried LORAC 3D lip glosses? They’re amazing. I got mine in 3D and I would never thought it’d be a good color for a pale person like me (it came in a kit). They’re glittery but somehow not 4th grade like and then it has a hallo-gram (sp?) effect as well. Great staying power!

lol

This article was posted on my birthday! I’m also obsessed with lip gloss and lip balm. I have at least five tins full of both. I have to buy some new ones because the others are full. I swear when I win the lottery, I’m going to buy thousands of lip gloss and lip balm.
