Review: Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion Moisturizer

March 13, 2009

One of my best beauty finds ever has been Clinique’s famous moisturizer (apparently one is sold every 4 seconds), Dramatically Different Moisturizing lotion.

Hydrated skin doesn’t just look smoother and healthier-it’s better able to function as a barrier against external aggressors.

Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion is the moisture “drink” developed by Clinique dermatologists to maintain skin’s optimal moisture balance.

Works to soften, smooth, improve the condition and texture of your skin.

I first found out about this product when I was on holiday in Thailand. I had gotten a sample size of it from a shop, but was too paranoid to try it on my face for fear of breakouts (this was at least 3 years ago, when I was still in my teens and had acne-prone skin).

Instead, I decided to use it as a hand moisturizer (you know how cold hotel rooms get) and I was amazed at how crazily-smooth my hands felt! I got the courage and started using it on my face, and when I got back home, I went to buy the full bottle immediately.

I first started off with the Lotion, which is the original. I found that while I loved it, in this hot climate, it did start to get oily on the face after awhile so I switched to the Oil-free, gel version that came out a little later. (I was also very happy when they came out with the ‘pump’ version for it!)

Anyways, you know that blurb above? I agree with absolutely everything they say. It doesn’t really have any ‘special’ features so to speak, (though I really wish they would include SPF in it!), it is a great product – simple, does the job, skin feels ridiculously smooth, and is great for sensitive skin like mine, and also those that are prone to breakouts.

I would highly recommend it, in other words.

Has anyone tried out this famous yellow moisturizer? What do you think? And do you use the lotion or gel version?

I do use this product too. I am using the gel version and as you’ve said,in this very hot climate, I had to switch to the oil free version too. I have been using this lotion for about 3 years now and am a sstisfied customer! Once again, I have to agree with you that I wish they’ve included SPF in it too.

I have just started buying products from clinique 2 months ago, as I saw it as an investment and it most certianly has been! I must say that I am not using the regular 3-step, I am using the anti-blemish 3-step.

There are a few things I have learnt since first using clinique skincare . Firstly you will benefit from the make-up remover before the 3-step, to properly remove the make-up- which ever is reccomended best for your skin- I use the rinse off cleanser and the naturally gentle eye make-up remover, secondly the superdefense mosturizer is very much worth it, I use it in addition to the anti-blemish clearing mosturizer, thirdly the clear blemish gel has been fantastic for me, it works as an antibactirial barrier between the skin and the makeup.

That’s great that it works for you, Christine! I tried the whole 3 step system a few years ago and haven’t used anything since! Clinique really changed my skin, it’s the only thing I trust on it. :)

Ahh my HG of moisturisers :) I use the gel though, as the lotion’s too rich for my oily skin.

Yup Tine, same here! I switched to the oil-free version as I felt after awhile, the original gave me an oily look after awhile. This is definitely my “HG” moisturizer too, I just really wish they would add SPF in it! :)

I just bought the DDML today, for dry to combo skin and it feels very nice :) Well, I am also using the other two steps but I had to customize them for my skin (sensitive, combination; and dry in the winter) so now I have the facial soap for combination skin, the alcohol-free extra mild clarifying lotion and this DDML. The clarifying lotion for combination skin was too strong & harsh…and it smelled like vodka which didn’t make me happy because I don’t like alcohol on my skin. -_-
However…Clinique is GOOD!! :) One day when I am a rich girl, I will switch to Shiseido (now I am using only their mascaras & eyeshadows) but for now…it’s very nice :)

Hey Mia, thanks for sharing your experiences! Clinique is GOOD! Haha. I have been using ii for years now and it has completely changed my skin for the better. I hope it does for you too! :) And I think it is better than Sheiseido (but of course I am biased) :-P

I agree with you girls! My mom has been using the three-step Clinique system (the yellow bar soap, Clarifying Lotion toner, and Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion) since I can remember. She is 52 now and she doesn’t look a day over 40! Maybe she just has good genes haha… I remember as a little girl sneaking into her bathroom and using this lotion. I loved the smell and feel of it.

I’m 25 now and I use the three components every day (at night I use a night cream by Boots No. 7). I switched to the gel version of Dramatically Different in October 2009 and it was a bad move, as it isn’t rich enough and leaves my skin flaky. However, I live in Midland, Ontario, Canada (north of Toronto) and winters are extremely cold so that might be why. I will keep using it for the upcoming summer months and then probably switch back to the regular one next winter.

Overall though, Clinique is one of my favourite brands. I always refresh my supply when they give out the bonuses at the department store :)

I know this is off-topic, but do we use sunscreen first or moisturizer first?
