So, this is the latest beauty discovery that I was talking about earlier – minx nails! It’s been available overseas for awhile, but I believe it’s just been brought into Asia, and I’m thrilled!
Basically, Minx nails are heat activated nail stickers, and the selling point is that they last super long, they don’t chip or smudge (for at least 7 days), and you can get all sorts of amazing designs that you can’t get through usual nail art. I was really excited to try it out, and two weeks ago I got the chance to try out them out at a Vedure, a cozy nail spa at Robinsons, Marina Bay Sands.

Since my nails were are short, I was told that some of the bigger designs might not show up properly, so I chose a colorful design above (on the right). I think they are tiny disco balls, but who really knows! All I know is that I saw it in the photos above and I thought it was really cute.

The procedure was fairly simple. I was first given a standard manicure which included clipping, buffing, and work on the cuticles and hangnails. The stickers need the perfect “surface” to stick on properly, so my nails were filed and buffed to smooth them.
After that, the stickers were heated under a lamp (the whole procedure was under a lamp), and stuck on each nail carefully. I was surprised at first when they used a nail file to file the remaining stickers off – I would’ve thought scissors would be better? But the filing made for a perfect smooth shape. Next, the nail therapist went back and pressed the stickers with a tool to make sure it stayed. Lastly, a tiny amount of glue was applied to the tips and then I let my nails dry under the lamp for a minute.

And that was it!
The process is much longer than the regular manicure, so if you can’t sit still like me it can feel a bit long. And the 7 days theory? Well, on the 6th day I saw one of the stickers starting to loosen up, but I just pushed it back. The 7th day though, another 2 nails started to peel off so I just ripped all of them off. So if you’re careful, then yes, it can definitely pass the 7 day mark. I am throughly impressed too, as I was told that the stickers might loosen up in heat, so I was advised not to put it in warm water. I thought, “Great, this will last me 2 days!” since I like to take blazing hot showers, but surprisingly it didn’t affect them at all. I absolutely loved the fact that there were no chips, fading, smudges, NOTHING. In other words, it looks like you have a brand-new, perfect manicure all week. Sounds good, no?!
… But now for the bad bit: it’s expensive. At Vendure it costs SGD$115, so I’d keep this for special occasions only. There was a bride-to-be at the nail spa before me, and she got a really beautiful pale pink with a white design, so I think this is a must-have for special occasions. But personally, I cannot afford to get this done regularly. Still, it is a wonderful new beauty innovation and I am IN LOVE. Thanks Vedure for my amazing Minx nails, I got tons of compliments on it!
Have you tried Minx nails yet? What do you think?
