Reviews

My BFF from New Zealand is leaving tomorrow (sob), so yesterday we met to have one last dinner together. After stuffing ourselves, we decided to walk around town, and when I saw a small poster of Lush, I immediately remembered that Lush came to Singapore (geez, how could I forget?!) and dragged her to the store. (And yes, she was the one who gave me my first Lush product this Christmas!)

And, honestly? It’s alright. I wasn’t blown away. Not yet, at least.

Cheerobics Workout DVD

Cheerobics, a brand new workout DVD that promises just that – aerobics and cheerleading dance moves that is “fat burning fun!” while giving you a serious workout.

I received Cheerobics DVD a few weeks ago and was really excited when I found out about it – as you know, I pretty much hate exercise even though I really need it (actually, we all need it! Yes, you too!). And who else is so bored of running, walking or swimming? I know I am!

Don’t be fooled though – this is a full on workout. The first time I tried it out, I stopped after 20 minutes because I am completely unfit, but have been keeping up at it and am getting better. The moves are taught very well (there is a specific section of the DVD for you to learn the moves first), but unfortunately I have two left feet, so this took me a while before I really “got” it. The workout itself starts off with cardio, then floor exercises and finishes off with a nice 7 minute stretch – you’ll love it! The DVD also comes with your very own cheerleading pompoms, so expect to work those arms a lot!

Ladies, I hope you’re ready for all my broken French!

Lollipops Paris, un magasin de vetements en France (“a clothing shop in France”… I think), has recently developed a makeup line, and I am a smitten kitten! This little 3D eyeshadow box was given to me from Watsons (where you can buy it) and it’s killing me with it’s cuteness.

C’est mignon, non?! The eyeshadow palette opens up to a chic woman roaming around the city with her cat and a pink tree. I am so in love with it, I have kept the box permanently opened and left it on my desk!

Nooo! It’s the end of 2011. Next year it the end of the world as we know it!

Just kidding. If the world were ending though, I’d be quite happy, beauty-wise – I found some real gems this year. Though I probably have more on this list, here are the ones I’ve been using regularly, and will continue to repurchase (ah “repurchasing”; the true sign you love a product!)

Here they are…

Clarins UV Plus HP Sunscreen – A fantastic product that I’ve been applying daily (um, I mean when I can remember). The formula is non sticky, non greasy… it is almost impossible to think of this as a sunscreen, which is perfect! I hate how thick and greasy most sunscreens feel. My full review is here.

Clinique Chubby Sticks – These little chubby sticks are THE best. I got a sample of it from my friend Yasmin when I first tried it, and loved it so much I went out and bought another THREE for myself and one for Mommy Dearest. They are so moisturizing and give a really pretty hint of color. Full review is here.

MAC blush in Sincere – MAC still makes the best blushes around. I picked this up some time ago after the MAC Beauty Workshop and I love this color – it’s different from my usual bronzers (I don’t like blush normally!) and is a mix of tan/peachy color that I love.

LUSH Vanillary Solid Perfume - it’s LUSH. Need I say more? Check out my raving review here.

Aesop - Not particularly any product, but the brand itself is a new fave – my favorite discovery of the year! I am eagerly awaiting checking out their full store. From the two products that I tried, I  am really intrigued by this brand.

Bobbi Brown BB Cream – Cannot rave about this enough. It is fantastic. Out of all the BB Creams I’ve tried (like this one, this one and this one), Bobbie Brown’s wins hands down. Full review is here.

Lush Vanillary Solid Perfume

Finally! I got my grubby little hands on something from LUSH!

As I mentioned earlier, my best friend Di is in town from New Zealand and that cheeky little bigger read that I’ve been dying to try LUSH, and knows that I love anything vanilla-scented, and so got me the perfect Christmas gift. Little did she know that THIS exact product, Vanillary perfume, was the first thing on my list for when I go to new LUSH store (sadly I still haven’t gone yet!). Either way, I was all AHHH!!! when I opened my gift – totally what I wanted! (I guess that’s why she’s my BFF, eh?)

Di said she got me the solid version since it seemed interesting (she’s not really “beauty crazy” like me or my other best friend, Christine), but she has amazing taste! It is my first solid perfume and I’m very glad that it works just like any old spray version: the scent lasts well for a few hours, and the areas where I applied the perfume dried instantly, so my skin didn’t feel sticky (my first fear).

The other reason I’m in love? The scent itself! It smells delicious – more to the sweet, cookie side than the normal warm vanilla scents I have, so this is a great change from that. I received it on the 24th (Denmark – and most of Europe it seems – open gifts on the 24th) so I wore it to a Christmas lunch on the 25th and I wanted to eat my own arm! It smells SO delicious.

So because of that, the amazing staying power and the convenience of the bottle (seriously, how easy are touch ups now?!), my first LUSH product is a whopping success and it gets 5 equally delicious donuts. Yum!!! I can’t wait to try more!

Have you tried Vanillary from LUSH yet? What do you think? And what do you think about solid perfumes?

I Want Candy!

December 15, 2011

prada candy perfume

Oh. My. Goodness. Prada has done it again. Some of you might remember that I have always liked Prada’s fragrances – I am obsessed with their male scent, and I wore Infusion D Iris all through college.

I first witnessed their latest perfume, Candy, in the usual: an ad in a magazine. And I couldn’t wait to try it out – another reason was that I wanted to see that stunning bottle! However, weeks went by and I had completely forgotten about it, until I saw on Twitter someone writing that it smelt exactly like play dough.

Play-dough?! I thought. (“Geez, I miss play-dough” was my other thought.) So the next time I was in town, I rushed to my favorite mall and tried it out. And yeah, if the play dough you used to play with as a kid cost $200, then yes, it smells like play-dough.

To be honest, my first reaction was “powder”, rather than play dough – it is a very powdery scent – much like their Infusion D’Iris fragrance, but with a slight sweet side (that would be the caramel note).

In other words, I love it. Santa, you reading? I want candy!

beaute pacifique skincare

For the past two weeks I have been trying a skincare brand from Denmark, Beaute Pacifique. And I have SO many things to say, but I admit that the first reason why I wanted to try this out is because I am half Danish, and yet I know NO Danish beauty brand. Quite shameful. And I am glad to say like a lot of Demmark’s finest things (Lego, Bang and Olufsen, butter cookies), we can now add Beaute Pacifque to that list.

I crawled out of my cave to attend the event a few weeks ago, and it was great to speak to the people behind the brand. The brand launched in 1997, and has made its debut in Singapore. A big part of their brand is anti-aging with scientific studies and results to back it up.
