Bunny Ear Headbands – Crazy or Cool?

March 23, 2010

As some of you may know, I do have a great interest in fashion. (I just can’t afford it, sob.) So I completely get that sometimes fashion is eccentric, crazy, over the top, cool, you name it. It is art, after all, and I love that.

But I saw this latest trend of bunny ears and I was just confused as to why it was a trend. I can’t decide whether it’s supposed to look cute or … I don’t know. It doesn’t make sense, so bunny ears may be too much for me. I don’t have any reason not to like it, but I just think it looks a little dumb – so this might have to be a ‘crazy’ for me this time!

What do you think? Bunny ears – crazy or cool?

I think this is silly!
Personally, I don’t wear headbands anyway because they start to hurt my head after a while, but the bunny ears thing is weird. It looks more like a Halloween costume accessory than a fashion accessory. It might be acceptable on a runway, but I think it would definitely be ultra-strange in real life.
Even on Lady Gaga it’s so ridiculous. And she can get away with pretty much anything!

P.S.: Just discovered this blog today and I’m loving it so far :)

Hey Katia!

I have to agree on headbands – they give me a headache! i love them though, they are so girly and not to mention it keeps my darn hair out of my hair! But I haven’t used them since I was maybe 8 because it hurts too much :(

Totally agree, everything is acceptable on the runway and it’s def a fashion piece, but I wonder if anyone has worn it in real life? They make it to sell, no? Sometimes I really wonder why they make such outrageous things because I can’t picture anyone but lady Gaga wearing it, haha! :-P

And thanks so much, Katia. Welcome! I hope to see you around more and thank you for visiting and commenting! :D

Whoa Madonna looks creepy. Lady Gaga looks the same, she always has something funny on :/ But them apart, I don’t get this “trend” either

LOL at the Madonna comment. I do think she looks a little weird with that thing on her head. :-P And totally agree, Lady Gaga always has something crazy on!

cool AND crazy! like a lot of fashion, these are more of statement/performance pieces than meant to be for every day wear. so i totally approve of them being worn on stage or in fashion editorials, but i wouldn’t wear them to the laundromat, haha.
i think with these trends its best to just interpret them in a more subtle way, like with a spikey bow head band or something rather than full on ears.

Dip! :D I want to ask you a fashion question since you know it waaay better than me. :) I agree that it is a statement piece and looks awesome on the runway and editorials, but they make it to sell, no? ‘Cause I really can’t imagine people walking around wearing it, as I’m sure it’s like $2000. How does high fashion work, though? Are those outrageous things just made for rich people and celebrities? If it is, isn’t it worn by a few people, max. How are they making their $$$ out of it? I’m so curious! (Sorry for the long question, haha).

haha no worries! basically the idea is that all high fashion lines have core lines, fashion pieces, and “leading edge” pieces. the leading edge pieces are the crazy runway pieces you see that make you go “WHO WEARS THIS STUFF?”, but it gets press attention, celebrity attention, and sells the fantasy of the line. its mostly for show. then the “fashion” pieces are the designers interpretations of current trends, and the “core pieces” are the boring tailored jackets and white shirts that are the bread and butter of the fashion industry.
so if you look at someone who puts the CRAZIEST stuff down the runway, like Alexander McQueen, the things he is KNOWN for are the ten inch crazy Lady Gaga shoes and reptile dresses, but he makes money off his more wearable tailored business jackets.
hope that answered your question :)

AH! Thanks so much for explaining, Dip. :) I never thought about that, but that makes total sense – they need to have press and celebrities and attention over to keep the brand name/image in the media and to sell, right? Ah I just never thought of it like that, but it makes complete sense now.

I feel dumb, ’cause makeup does the exact same thing. (NARS’ blush got famous because they dared to name their product “Orgasm” and other scandalous names and got tons of press from it! :-P )

Thanks for the mini fashion lesson, Dip :) Studying fashion must be so cool. To think I’ve been studying all the theory in writing and communication systems, *yawn*. Although I like that too, haha!

haha fashion is really fun to study, but honestly i am really new to being a fashion student. i majored in film theory :)
but glad to be of help! and yeah makeup does the exact same thing, if you look at the promotional photos for makeup collections they are ALL KINDS OF CRAZY theatrical, nothing you could wear to work.

cheers :)

Yeah….I’m gonna say ‘crazy’ ! It’s def not the kind of things you can wear if you’re not lady gaga :p

Hey Renee!

How are you doing miss? :)
I think these headbands are kinda ridiculous but they could be cute as a once-off thing. I think pretty girls will be able to get away with it but for the rest of the world I’m not so sure.

Ooh, why don’t you make a picture of yourself with one of these on. If you want I’ll put one on too and send you a picture *wink*

Have a beautiful day!

Hey Digster, I’m good thanks, and you?

Pretty girls, do you mean 8 year old girls? I’m afraid i can’t see this on a person over the age of 12. I mean I think the Olsen twins are fab but they look so ridiculous in that picture above!

And you are welcome to post pictures of you wearing it! I’ll just sit back, laugh, and call you Bunny Man. :-P :-P

Diggy I totally agree with you here. :) It would be nice to Renee wearing a headband like this. :)

I don’t really get this trend, it’s too weird. I guess it may be ok for photoshoots, but not in real life.

Reply

Renee March 23, 2010 at 23:19

Completely agree. It’ll be cute on younger girls, though.

In the weird world of fashion, it works. In the real world, I think I’ll get reactions along the line of “don’t look, it’s the crazy bag lady with rat ears.”

Guess I’ll just have to live my “bunny ear” fashion phase vicariously through others. lol

LOL! Haha aw Mary I haven’t spoken to you in awhile (miss you!) and then you come with this funny comment! :) :)

Renee March 23, 2010 at 23:22

Hey No. 1 fan! (Are you really? If you are thanks so much! :D ) Yeah, the ones on the runway is “fierce!” but the others look a bit funny! :-P

I love the big bows/ears, very fashionable and definitely a statement piece. I don’t like the lace ears on the Olsons’ because they seem to just be picking up on what’s trendy but on Gaga and on Lily Allen I don’t mind them because it seems to suit they’re styles more.

Renee March 23, 2010 at 23:23

I agree, Michaela! :) I guess with everything it really depends on the person’s style/attitude/look! I have to agree with the Olsen’s though, I wrote the whole post after seeing that photo ’cause I thought it was just so silly. :-P

I think this works, but only for very specific occasions. It’s definitely not something you could wear with jeans and a tee. If you were going clubbing, perhaps, and wanted a look that would make you stand out. Or it would make an interesting twist on the usual headpiece/hat for a wedding- but it would have to be at a fairly casual/cosmopolitan situation. In my local area people would think you were bonkers/trying too hard/ruining the whole day.

Renee March 23, 2010 at 23:25

Hey Jen! :) Yeah, in my country I think people will think I’m completely mad. I like your idea of it in a wedding, perhaps this will suit those who’s style is fairytale-ish? For some reason I’m thinking of Alice in Wonderland now…

Reply

Jen March 23, 2010 at 23:39

Hey Renee! Importantly, for a wedding they would have to be in colours other than black, and probably without the mini-veil- there’s nothing worse than being a black widow AND a crazy rabbit lady at the same wedding.

After considerable thought, I would have to add that these look best on someone whose hair is already quite dramatic and fashion-forward- Ga Ga and Lily seem to pull them off because their hair is already making a statement, whereas the Olsens and Madge just look like they’ve stuck them on at the last minute for a giggle.
