The very first reader question! Let me hyperventilate.
OK done.

I’ve been looking around your site and it has some great beauty tips for general us! I am having a spring wedding though, and was wondering if you had any bridal-specific beauty tips?
Congratulations on your engagement! I am sure you’d want to look your best possible on your special day – not to mention, the wedding photos last a lifetime, so it’s vital to look your absolute best! I am nowhere near getting married so I don’t have any personal tips, however I can imagine, and plus I did some research online.
Here’s what I found:
Hair and Make Up
- Keep the whole look classic and timeless. Don’t experiement with any new hair colors or haircuts right before your wedding, try it out at least one month before. Same for makeup – no trying on blue eyeshadow or some lipstick that flakes everywhere on your special day! Take photos of your makeup so you can access how you will look like in your wedding pictures!
- Start with the weekly conditioners a month before the wedding. I would recommend anything by Redken, especially their All Soft range.
- Schedule your hair and makeup trial appointments about a week before the wedding – that way, if you do like it, the stylist can remember what they actually did! Trying on makeup and hairstyles months before the wedding is not such a good idea; 1) because you might change your mind, and 2) the stylist might not remember exactly how he/she did it.
- Have a test day for your whole ensemble. Sometimes, the hair can look beautiful – but when it’s with your dress it might look completely different and make the proportions look all wrong!
- A last tip for hair? Use L’Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray. It really is the best.
- This is a recommendation from a friend … she says Bobbi Brown has some of the best natural looking makeup, and Bobbi herself has always said your wedding day should just be a more beautiful version of yourself, and I couldn’t agree more! Opt for something natural and beautiful, like this picture from her Spring makeup collection above! Stunning.
Skin care
- Try adopting these good skin care habits months before the wedding such as daily moisturizer and sunscreen.
- Do not try any new skincare products closely to your wedding. If you can, go to a dermatolgist a month before so he/she can sort out any skin problems you might have. If it’s nothing serious, get a facial – but at least 2-4 weeks before the wedding, in case there are any reactions.
- Waxing should be done at least 4 days before your wedding day, in case you get irration or ingrown hairs.
- Two words for the big day (apart from I do of course!): BLOTTING PAPERS. Or a makeup artist lurking around somewhere. Blotting papers are quick touch ups that soak up any nasty sebum or mishaps that has happened with your makeup. Try getting powdered ones – it’s a more natural, light alternative to piling on lots of applications of powder throughout the day.
One last tip … waterproof mascara – for everyone in the family!
(And take some time to de-stress and relax through all that planning!)
Does any other brides, soon to be or not, have any other bridal beauty tips?

Great tips! Might I add one more – try not to go for a massage a day or two before the wedding. I know it sounds silly, I mean, after all the stress you’ve gone through, you’d be craving for a massage, right? Unless it’s with your usual masseuse, don’t do it. My bridesmaids very kindly arranged for a day in a spa for all of us, which was so great of them, and the massage felt great and all. But the very next day, the day of my wedding, I woke up with my back and joints aching all over. And it didn’t help with the high heels I was wearing that night too.
After reading this post, i wanna get maried!
be the most beautiful on that special day, all eyes on me! haha
anyway, Congrats to Kimberly!
Hey Beauty fool. One tip I have is that with your makeup choice, make sure that all your products are branded “long lasting”.
Also invest in makeup primers to make your foundation last, a there is a makeup set mist from Sephora, where you put it on your face after all your makeup is done, to keep it staying. Like a top coat on your nails, in a way.
organic, natural cosmetics in skincare and makeup is the way to go for your wedding day. that way it wont clog pores since you are wearing it for such a long time! also, it looks so natural, in photos you will look naturally beautiful, like you said “a better version of yourself”.
Definitely Fasio mascaras for weddings; they last through floods of tears!
Wow, great tips for brides-to-be. I will remember to pass on your very helpful tips to my daughter on her ‘great day’, although it will be a long way ahead as she’s just 5 but already very interested in beauty tips! Thank you so much!!!!
Wow, thanks everyone for their responses and their own tips! I’m glad this post has been helpful – keep them coming!
Awesome tips there. This is great resource for all new brides!
i’m no where near getting married either haha. any tips for dating girls like us?
Hey gals, blotting papers are a MUST! Must not look like an oil slick in the photos you’ll have for the rest of your life!
Steff – Thank you so much
beautyaddict – that is a GREAT idea for a post! Look out for it soon
Samantha – agreed. It’s also a must for everyday life in my opinion too! Especially if you live in hot climates.
Very good tips indeed! Well deserving of a stumble
I’ll watch out for more from you
These are really useful tips. Excellent post
And yup; no crazy massages, facials, or a new hairstylists. Everything needs to be perfect for the big day, so you must at least plan everything and try it out a few weeks before!
Paris B – thanks so much, I really appreciate it.
Kat – Thank you! And yep; definitely plan everything and try it out a few weeks before!
Thanks so much for this, wat a great article. will print out. and the comments too are helpful, thanks everyone. i think most will use a makeup artist on their big day though. i know i will, i am soo not that great at makeup yet haha. a beauty fool too :p
A tip I would include are the new HD foundations, they really make your skin look flawless in cameras and photographs. They are used on actresses who don’t want their pores shown up close on the big movie screen and stuff like that. if it’s good enough for the stars…..!
Tessa – thanks and you’re most welcome! I think most will hire a makeup artist on their wedding day … less stress the better
Kat – good tip! I have been hearing a lot about the new powders especially but haven’t tried any of them out yet. But yes, like you said, they are meant to look flawless on film!
GREAT TIPS. THX FOR THIS. THE LOOK SHOULD ALWAYS BE FOR WEDDINGS: CLASSIC AND TIMELESS.
You’re welcome, glad you liked it.
And yup, totally think your wedding day’s ‘look’ should be classic and timeless … you don’t want to look back and cringe at the awful fashion or style choices that were ‘in’ back then but are completely crazy now!
These are all great tips that I will share with my friend who is looking to getting married this summer. Thanks for identifying the key things to focus on.
Here’s another tip – bring a small spray bottle with pure water and gently hydrate your face during your big day. It sure helped me to keep a healthy complexion throughout my big day.
Great tips!
Thank you for these great tips !! i really like !!
