Well, lipgloss is cool and all, but the thing about obsessions are that they go as fast as they come! And this is my latest: A natural, organic shampoo from Avalon Organics. I bought it from my fave drugstore, Watsons, this past weekend. And while I was there to stock up on any essentials for myself and the family, one thing I was on the hunt for was an organic shampoo. I’ve recently decided to make the switch to organic and natural products on my hair – I’ve been using natural and organic products for my body (especially shower gels) so I wanted to make the switch for my hair too. And I was very impressed to see that Watsons has some great organic choices. I decided to go with Avalon Organics for now, but I also spotted Aussie organic brand Sukin, which is next on my list!
For now, I am in love: no nasty chemicals, guaranteed they don’t test on animals, gentler to your hair, and you don’t get that nasty chemical, detergent feeling to your hair after washing. Love, love, LOVE! I normally hate washing my hair and do it rarely (gross, I know, I know) but now I am excited to give it a good wash!
Do you use organic and natural products for your hair? Do you have any good brands to recommend to me? I don’t think I can ever go back to “normal” shampoos anymore, these are just too wonderful.

Lavender shampoo sounds wonderful!
I like the idea of using organic hair & body products, but haven’t really made the leap to trying many. I do try to use SLS free products whenever I can though, especially with shampoo. I really like the Naked Bodycare range, they have some great products which smell fantastic, and it’s all 97% natural.
I use Jurlique right now that is alkaline free, pH balanced and has no chemicals or colourants. Not sure if I think it’s the perfect shampoo but I do like their conditioners. =)
Oh, I wrote a comment before you changed the look for Beautyfool so I’m not sure if it showed, but I want to recommend a tool that gives your hair volume. It’s called Björn Axén Volumaster and looks like this http://fragafrisoren.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/volumaster_large.jpg The volume stays until you wash your hair and I thought it might be a product for you. It’s very simple to use. Here’s the add for it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC-CPxJJAZ8&feature=related =)
Omg, thanks so much Jenny! I guess you know I HATE how flat my hair is! I was looking for a crimper (I think that’s what they are called here.) Have you tried it out before?
A friend of mine tried the crimper (haha, funny name) on my flat and straight Asian hair and I was surprised at the volume it created. And there was no need of styling mousse, gel, spray or wax and the like that usually weighs down your hair and turns greasy the same day. I ordered it online the very next day, haha, and I don’t regret it. It’s a miracle tool! If you wish the hair to be bigger after crimping it, just do some back-combing and you’ll get crazy volume. It works amazingly on all hair-types.
Best of all is that it’s quick and fun to do. =)
Hi Renee.. I’m a big fan of your blog, though I’ve rarely left a comment.. you’re doing a great job!
and on top of that I have to wash them almost everyday now because they seem to get dirty/flat quite quickly.. Lush shampoos don’t contain sodium chloride and a lot of other harsh chemicals which is why I feel a better using them.. try them if you get a chance!
Far as organic cosmetics go, I’m a HUGE fan of Lush shampoo bars and a couple of their liquid shampoos.. http://www.lush.co.uk
I got my hair straightened a while ago (Xtenso) and have had quite a bit of damage and hairloss, and my hair was never very thick to begin with
i recently started using lush shampoo bars as well. i was skeptical since my hair is long and thick. amazingly, my hair has more life, its less limp, its shiny, and its not dry! you need to try it if you have a chance.
Hey Sarah, thanks so much.
I have heard of LUSH about 10000000000 times and ARGH!!! I am so bummed out we don’t have the brand here.
Everyone keeps raving about it so I will only be able to check it out when I go overseas. I have been “shopping” already and want to try their bath bombs too (even though I don’t even have a bath haha, they look like so much fun though!)
You can find some Lush products in Holland Village! It’s there in the shops just above the Cold Storage, 2cd floor – it’s in a shop that also sells leather bags. A bit random, but it’s there! Go up the escalators and turn right, just walk along there – you’ll see it. PS – their products are not organic, or completely all natural – please don’t be fooled by marketing. That said, they do have a great environmental initiative and no animal testing – read up on them more it inform yourself: http://www.lushusa.com/shop/about-lush/articles/environmental-policy/packaging.html
I think Nature’s Gate is pretty good but the packaging is really unsexy as it gets….it’s all good for ya and smells good, esp jojoba and herbal.
How you written anything about how to get as smooth shaving on legs as possible?
I think this is my biggest “beauty problem”
Would really appreciate if you had some tricks
I stopped using products with silicones several years ago, and I’m using a lot of natural products. Indians have the best stuff. Period. They have a lot of wonderful plants that can help with oily scalp, dandruff, hair loss. They use henna and indigo to dye hair (it works really well, unless you want to go blonde). Neutral henna is the best hair conditioner EVER. It gives volume and a lot of shine. And I just bought a wonderful natural oil, by Kama Ayurveda, which makes my hair very shiny and silky. I’m in love with it.
The best natural shampoo I tried is a homemade mixture, made with Rhassoul clay (from Morocco), essential oils, aloe vera and a bit of oil. You put it on your scalp, massage a bit, let sit a few minutes and rinse. Hair is perfectly clean and all voluminous. Great for people with oily scalp.
And NEVER doubt the power of a good hair brush. I bought a Mason Peason brush, which is ridiculously expensive, but my hair looks really good now and my scalp is much less oily.
Hi,
I love that you’ve posted on Avalon Organics! I use several of their products, and while I actually don’t like their shampoo, they make really rich, moisturizing conditioners. Perfect for thick hair. Just my two cents
Hi!
I recently made the switch to what I believe is an organic shampoo and conditioner a few months ago. I use Burt’s Bee’s Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo and Conditioner. It has no sulfates, parabens, phthalates, or petrochemicals and they don’t test on animals. I like the price and it smells pretty good. I have pretty thick hair and it’s very important to me, but I didn’t know what my old shampoo was doing to it. Before I switched I use to have a lot of hair fall off and my hair was really dry (granted I didn’t know any better and was using pantene), but now my hair is very moisturized and I seem to be loosing a lot less hair.
While I’d love to make the switch, I’m still trying to find one that can combat dandruff :/
Ira: Try Lush’ soak and float bar.. and snake oil massage bar.. works for dandruff..
I’m currently using avalon organics right now and I have to say that I’m pretty impressed!
When you are looking for the right shampoo for you it is important that you first determine the hair type that you have. Nowadays shampoos are formulated to specifically fit dry or oily hair.
