Ask Me Anything!

August 8, 2011

Wow, it’s almost been a year since I’ve done a Q&A post! I think they should be semi-regular, no? I am sure many have questions about topics I haven’t written about on the blog that I (and readers!) can answer. I was thinking of getting a Formspring account but I was warned it gets nasty, so I decided against it. So I thought doing it on a post would be be better, so ask away!

Oh! Before you start, may I ask a question? Is the lack of sidebar on the current design bothering you? I’ve gotten a few emails saying they think it’s too complicated. Let me know what your thoughts are, if you agree I can always add it back in. (The navigation is all under the logo, by the way.)

If you could live in any fantasy universe (everything from harry potter to gossip girl) where would you live?
What’s one of your pet peeves?
What’s the biggest style and beauty mistake you see people do?
The first thing you look at in another person’s outfit is?
A fashion rule you never break?
What’s on your iPod / bookshelf / DVD player at the moment?

Renee August 9, 2011 at 20:17

Haha Johanna I think you asked me the first question last time? I still don’t know! I like real life, haha. But maybe under the sea, like in The Little Mermaid? It was my favorite film as a kid and I always wanted to be a mermaid haha. Yeah OK – I choose The Little Mermaid, that could be fun!

Hmm… pet peeves. Oh I’m sure I have many. Where does one even begin?!

Biggest style mistake is anything Lady Gaga wears, LOL. Sorry, she’s cool but her outfits are ridiculous. Beauty mistake is going “overboard”. Ridiculously long fake eyelashes, fake colored contacts, fake hair, long fake nails, push up bras… I really don’t get the appeal. If they are subtle they make a lot of difference but some girls go so over the top it just looks bad!

I don’t really notce people’s outfits unless it’s really out there. I suppose I notice their top since it’s the closest to their face?! And then as time goes on I might notice their shoes, jewelry, etc.

In my iPod right now is Panic at the Disco’s newest album, Vices and Virtues. It is AMAZING. Highly recommended. Bookshelf, not much. I’m not much of a book reader, unfortunately! I only read books once in a blue moon, but my last one I really loved was an autobiography, Save Me From Myself by Brian Welch. Also amazing! DVD player, nothing. I just watch the movie channels if I see something is good. The last movie I watched was 8 Mile last week!

OK, now you answer your questions! :) Especially the last one! What are you currently enjoying in the music, book and movie world? xx

Oh, did I? Sorry, just always comes to mind. I’d want to live in the Harry Potter universe

Peet peeve for me is maybe… Wearing to much perfume.

Yes, and just being too tan and plasticy. Although Lady gaga is kind of a persona, so I get it. In everyday life I hate the tights as pants look.

I usually always make a mental note of peoples shoes. I think it says a lot about a person.

Fashion rule I never break: Mixing gold and silver.

Right now I’m listening to a Norwegian artist named Moddi. It’s a bit of an acquired taste. I recommend the songs “Smoke” and “poetry”. I’ve just rewatched the movie “never let me go” it’s beautiful and I think you’ll love it, but don’t watch the trailer. And I’m currently watching “Midnight in Paris” by Woody Allen.
I just read “An abundance of Katharines” by John Green, but I’d recommend the Hunger games if you’re not much of a reader, those books MAKES you a reader.

How do I make my breasts bigger? Does tree tea oil help ?

Reply

Renee August 9, 2011 at 20:19

I highly doubt tea tree oil, or any other products that claim to make your breasts bigger will work. It’s just not possible, don’t believe it! I would recommend to love the size you are now! That’s the best, long term, and “healthiest” way to go. You can always wear a bra that has a little padding if you are self conscious? But learn to love your size is the best :)

Hi Renee! I’ve got three questions:
1. Did you go to university? If so, what did you study?
2. Do you read any blogs yourself? What are your favourite blogs?
3. Can you recommend any bronzer that works well for lighter skin?

I’ve been reading your blog for a rather long time now and I honestly love it! It’s by far my favourite beauty blog. Plus, I really have to say you’re an inspiring person! You do what you love, you’re honest and you stay true to yourself no matter what other people say. Keep blogging ;)

Ya! she’s my favorite blogger/beauty blogger too. in fact, i usually just don’t pay much attention to magazines and i don’t ever read up on stuff like this until i came across Beauty Fool. plus Renee’s personality is just so true, comforting and awesome!! i love coming here! just hope she doesn’t stop blogging anytime soo-….EVER :P

Aw Nayla and Chloe thank you so much for your sweet comment. :) I am so touched by your kind words. Thanks so much. And Nayla, no, I’ll never stop blogging, I love it too much :)

OK on to Chloe’s questions…

1) Yup, I did! I graduated in July last year and I have a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Media Management. Basically I can go into any field within the communications and media industry like journalism, public relations, advertising, film, radio, etc. I originally chose that degree as I love writing and digital media (like blogging!)

2) Yes, I read many blogs! I kinda go on a new blog and check out their “Links” page and just click them all. I just look at anything and everything, I just like to take it all in! I am obsessed with blogs and will check out any! Like for example I used to love reading a Mommy blog even though I am no where near a Mom or even could relate to any of it! I just liked the blogger.

That being said, my favorite blogs are when I get to know the blogger, so I like semi-personal blogs. That’s why for my own blog I tend to mix it with beauty and personal stuff, ’cause I find if it’s just makeup stuff all the time, how is it any different from a magazine? That’s why I love blogs – Bblogs are meant to be a community with real people and whatnot. That being said (sorry I’m rambling haha), my favorites that I frequent regularly are on my “Links” page!

3) I know ALOT about bronzers ’cause I am not a fan of blush (hate pink haha) so I tend to use bronzers instead. In high school I switched between Bourjois and The Body Shop, but a few years ago I discovered the ones by MAC, which are fantastic. I am not sure what the name is, but the color is 01 and is so subtle and pretty, perfect for lighter skin tones! Also, I really loved Bourjois’ one, but I think it might be discontinued as I used it when I was 15/16. So I’d definitely recommend to check out MAC!

I like the sidebar-less layout – it did take some getting used to but I really like it.
My question for you: What makes you really happy? Not just a silly happy or a ordinary happy, but one thing (or several – you always seem quite cheery) that has made you feel so great about yourself and the world around you. It can be anything from a bag design or a special holiday. I find that happiness and what makes someone happy often defines them really well. :)

Reply

Renee August 9, 2011 at 20:32

Wow, deep question! I love it. Ready for a really deep answer?

I think my happiness comes from knowing God and surviving my past. I suffered from depression (amongst other things) in my teens and was a complete mess. Finding my faith (I’m a Christian), eventually getting out of depression, and just knowing that God loves me, my family loves me, and my friends love me (and I them!) gives me all the happiness in the world. Also, little things make me happy – watching my cute puppy sleeping next to me on her bed at night, going for late night drives for ice cream, a really funny movie… the little things in life! I guess from my past I just have learnt to really appreciate and be thankful for every little thing in life. Life is so short and so special.

What makes you happy, Yasmin? :)

Reply

yelena August 31, 2011 at 14:53

wow, i had a feeling that you are a Christian. it kinna shows from the way you write and the things that you value. i am too, and i can say it’s truly what makes me happy. i love that you share a lot about yourself to your readers and i feel that you sincerely care for them(us :) ) too. and though this is a beauty blog, i like that you always advocate on valuing inner beauty more and just loving one’s self.
continue to be a blessing

Hi Renee! Do you ever use bronzers for face contouring? If yes, which bronzer would you recommend?

Reply

Renee August 9, 2011 at 20:33

Hey Camilla! Yes! I just replied to Chloe’s comment about about bronzers, do check it out above! But in a nutshell, I’ve tried bronzers from Bourjois, The Body Shop and MAC. My fave is MAC, with Bourjois’ close behind! xx

answer to your question: no not really. i knew something was different! couldn’t put my finger on it. i think ppl just aren’t used to the change. it’s alright though. gives more writting space…but everything seems bigger now… maybe thats just me though.

i strangely had a dream with you in it the other day :S creeeepy? we were talkin on the phone n promised each other to hang out n while that was happening, i was out shopping in a windy area for make up n u were at home chillin or something. ya…my dreams are usually exciting with mythical and adventurous shit going on :D but from what i remember, there was no…well villains or anything action packed haha.

i guess my question is…
do u have weird dreams like that? or have u ever dreamt of someone you’ve never met? and what is the [or one of the-] strangest dream you’ve had, that you can remember?

Reply

Renee August 9, 2011 at 20:37

Haha that’s an awesome dream! I do dream of people I’ve never met. I think when you see something/someone alot it’s in your subconsience? Like I remember I also dreamt of a blogger I used to always read. Was really random, like yours – something like we were at a party? Haha.

And as far as strange dreams, all of mine are strange! I always dream of “dramatic” things, like terrorist attacks in Singapore (not fun!), tsunamis, earth quakes, flying, being in heaven and meeting angels… all strange! My latest dream was I was that I was at my wedding but plotting on how to escape, LOL! I think I’m scared of marriage?! Haha. :-P

Reply

Nayla August 13, 2011 at 07:37

ahahaha! no no, i know what you mean! i’ve had plenty of those dreams too. many of..MY weddings that was about to take place but then random people would come to stop it or i’d want to run away.. and ever since i was younger..i’d always have weird dreams of the world ending with a huge tidal wave or tsunamis…one that i remember clearly was a dream i had as a kid and this giant wave hit this bright city area i was living in with all these buildings, and LOL i was SURFING and dodging all the buildings. i don’t even know how to surf. should take it up though.

and those of falling.. -.- the worst. the scariest was that i was really tired, and wanted to collapse onto this white snowy bed in the north pole, but when i jumped..i was falling down within this never ending white blanket. i slept without covers the next night.

I don’t mind the lack of sidebar at all. Personally, the design geek in me loves it because it seems more sleek and streamlined to my eye :)

As some have asked above, I’d also like to know what blogs you read and enjoy, what you think is the biggest beauty/makeup mistake, and I’m also curious to know what beauty ‘rules’ you think are rubbish and that you break all the time, if any!

Reply

Renee August 9, 2011 at 20:42

I’m a total design geek as well! But I think for the majority of online readers, sidebars are a must as it’s easier for them? I think I might just add it back in.

For my fave blogs, you can check them out on my “Links” page, or you can read my rambling reply to Chloe, above. :-P Biggest beauty mistake is going OVERBOARD. I cannot stand it if I see a girl who has everything that is overboard – think Snooki. Not cute at all!

Beauty rules that I think are rubbish… I’m not sure, I don’t follow any beauty rules – I just don’t like anything overdone, makeup should enhance not cover up your beauty!

Hey Roxy! I am not sure what type of skin I have, haha. I’d say combo/senstivie?

In highschool I had acne prone but around 20 years old (about 3 years ago) I noticed my skin was less oily and all the acne slowly cleared. I was so happy! It was around that age I stopped using foundation and toner, so I wonder if that oculd be it. Today I don’t do much to it, just a cleanser and moisturizer (though I am very adamant everything on my face needs to be oil-free). I tried using serums and scrubs, but my skin got really blotchy and red so I think with my skin, it’s the less the better!

And yes, YouTube – I am waiting for my nasty eye infections to clear up completely (giving my eyes a month’s rest from any makeup/contacts) then I’ll be on it, promise! :) xx

rOxy August 11, 2011 at 09:39

You got me there Renee. Combo/sensitive skin here too!

I wonder why people asks other people’s routine… well.. now I know the answer… it’s not merely because of curiosity but mainly because looking forward to the answers to their skin problems as well.

speaking of that… (YouTUBE – I hope your eye infection be cured today so tomorrow we can finally see you! haha!) What are you skin regimen? what scrubs and facial wash and moisturizers that worked for you?

with such simplicity.. you have a great skin!

Reply

Renee August 9, 2011 at 20:54

Thanks so much, Misha! I suffered from acne as a teen and thankfully it’s all gone now, and I think a big part of it is that I try to put as little as possible on it. Only cleanser and moisturizer, and only “light” face makeup such as tinted moisturizers and organic loose powder. I’d def recommend to try to put as little as possible on it so your skin behaves!

My routine for “dress up” days (events and special occasions) is concealer on my deadly dark eye circles, tinted moisturizer and some loose powder (not too much powder, only on my cheeks, as it can look too “flat”).

For those “normal” days where I still need to look presentable, like business meetings or just going out for dinners, I just use concealer and loose powder.

For everyday wear like running errands, seeing friends, etc, I usually don’t wear makeup! I like letting my skin “breathe”, I think that’s really important! xx

Hey Renee, yeah, I definitely preferred it with the side bars – it was much easier to navigate. My formal/prom is coming up – this Friday!! And I was wondering if you wouldn’t doing a do’s and don’ts post for an event like this. Thanks :3

Also, are you a AVPM/Darren Criss fan?

Reply

Renee August 9, 2011 at 21:11

Hey Helen! Yeah, I agree. Sidebars coming back soon!

Do’s and dont’s… OK here goes:

I think overall, one “rule” I’d say is don’t try out something new, as in a new hair color, a new makeup color, a new foundation. You never know if something “bad” might happen, as you’re not used to it. My friend bought a new foundation for prom and only realized in photos it was like 3 shades too light for her skin! In all her prom photos she looked like she was wearing a mask. Such a shame :( So for prom I’d def recommend to do what you KNOW works – you should look like yourself, but a little “dressier”. You definitely don’t want to be one of those who goes overboard with it!

Have a great time at your prom!!! Aw, I never went to prom, please tell me all about it, it sounds so exciting. :)

And no, I have never heard of AVPM or Darren Criss. Who are they? xx

Reply

Helen August 10, 2011 at 19:36

Awesomme!! xD And thanks for the tips :)

I’ve decided to opt with the minimal make-up thing (just eye shadow, mascara and eye liner) as they’re the only stuff I know how to apply :P And having my hair out and straightened (naturally) with sides clipped, so it looks like it’s a half up do-ish < < just if you were wondering :P Thanks again for your tips :) And I'll let you know how the night when in the weekend!

Shock horror! :P
AVPM = A Very Potter Musical, created by Darren Criss (and his college mates), who is now a regular on Glee- he's pretty talented, and I recommend that you check him and his stuff out! Here's the link to Act 1, part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmwM_AKeMCk

My question: whats the difference between applying mascara on both lashes and only on the top one? Or rather which gives a better look…

Reply

Renee August 9, 2011 at 21:13

Personally, I cannot NOT apply it on both the top and bottom lash line. They say if you apply it on the bottom it “closes” up your eye, and it’ll look bigger if it’s only on the top, but personally I find it looks weird! After all, we have lashes on the top and bottom, so why should it look like we only have it at the top? I suppose it’s all personal preference!

Reply

Nafisa August 10, 2011 at 01:11

True…I feel the same, so I’ve never left the lower lash undone :D Thanks anyway for the reply :)

Reply

Renee August 10, 2011 at 01:31

No problem! You could try doing it only on the top on one eye and both on the other, and see which you think looks better? Could be interesting to see. Actually I think I’m gonna try that, haha! xx

rOxy August 11, 2011 at 10:43

I have small eyes too… and I find putting mascara on the outer half of my lashes create an illusion that my eyes are more open.

Some gurus suggests putting eyeliner on the half outer lashline to create a more opened look. I ams tillin a journey of finding a flesh eyeliner for a non obvious wide-open eye look… hahaha! white eyeliner and even the benefit eye brightener looks obvious on me…. sort of trying hard. hehehe

Hello renee,

I’ve been following your blog for quite some time, i really like the clean and simple layout. My questions to you are:-
1. how to create smokey look for asian eyes (inner eyelid)?
2. any good moisturizer and sunscreen (that doesn’t clog pores) to recommend for combination skin?
3. do you ever wish u had lived somewhere else?
4. what’s your dream vacation?
5. lastly, what’s on your wishlist for the year? :)

thank you!

Renee August 9, 2011 at 21:19

Hey! Thanks for reading :D

OK… 1) Just apply it slightly above your crease. If your eye lids are hidden, just look straight into the mirror and apply the shadow slightly above, to give the illusion of it. And blend, blend, blend! :)

2) YES! My fvorites that I use is Clinique’s Dramatically Different Gel Moisturizer and Clarins UV Plus.

3) Sometimes. I suppose that’s normal? I think it would be awesome to live in Copenhagen, Denmark, where my family is from. I’m half Danish but I don’t “feel” it as much as I feel Singaporean since I have lived here all my life, so I would love to live there for awhile and discover my Danish side!

4) THE MALDIVES! Haha I am dying to go there, it looks like paradise. :)

5) Not much… happiness, my wish for everyday of my life! Although I really wish my eye infections will go away for good, I’ve had 3 in the last 2 months! Yuck, haha.

No prob, thanks for your fun questions! :)

Hi Renee! Firstly I don’t miss the sidebars at all, I think the current design is very sleek and clean.
I had a few questions pop into my head for this but I can’t remember them all now :/ but i have two anyway:
1. What’s your advice for figuring out what kind of skin tone you have e.g light, medium and dark .. I can never figure out which one I am! I’ve had my makeup done at a beauty counter, and they were rubbish really, the makeup was good but the foundation was completely the wrong shade, it made my face look orange! They used a darker shade than my natural skin tone too because the lighter ones made my skin look ‘ashy’ :/
2. Have you got any or been given any ‘traditional’ beauty/health advice from your parents or family members? I love traditional beauty tips (we have loads in our family) because they’re almost always using natural ingredients and very gentle on your skin/body. I live by my mum/grans advice it always works, whether its a pimple or period pain, always works!
I’d love to hear any you might have.

Hi Nayla,

I too have thickening hair (hormones, aging) I tried this shampoo and conditioner that really helped me out. It’s organic. My hair grew faster and ironic but my hair did not became kinky/curly.. in short my hair grew the way it used to be.

anyway, I have recommended this to a lot of my friends and co-workers and definitely is recommendable. They have 2 types Strengthening (for me, its for those who has chemically-free hair like no straightening) and moisturizing (for me its for chemically treated hair). I used the moisturizing because I sis a lot of bad things to my hair.

Anyway, you can check their website and brows for reviews. its “human heart nature”.

Good luck!

also, one of my best friends is very insecure about her boobs. they’re really small n she’s on this hell bent determination to make them bigger, somehow. [without plastic surgery] so, would you happen to know any natural tips for that? :P i’m happy with the genes my mother gave me, so i don’t really know or haven’t ever looked into this…

I believe the foundation should be a complete match, if not perhaps slightly lighter than your skin tone. Look in the mirror – are you fair, medium, or dark? Say you are medium, then, are you a lighter medium or a darker medium? I think it’s all about trial and error. I do believe that darker skintones have a harder time finding the proper shade, unfortunately. My friend’s skintone is medium (she’s Sri Lankan) and she always complained about how hard it is to find the perfect match. But she did eventually (she found it at Bobbi Brown), so don’t give up! Just ask the sales assistant to help, they should know what they are doing! Change brand, the last ones sound like they don’t know what they are talking about! Still, to be extra sure, when trying it out at the store, go out and look at the color in natural sunlight. If it looks like you have nothing on, bingo!

Ooh please share some of your traditional beauty tips! I don’t have any actually… my Mom did tell me about making your own pore strip for your nose using egg whites, but I ever tried it out!

ahhh. i have that problem sometimes too. i feel maybe i’m just blind n can’t see the difference in colors, even though i’m an art student -.- cuz the foundation looks different on me during the day and otherwise.
i’ve gotten store people to help verify my skin tone..but it’s never right! and besides…i usually tan fast anyway.. so it’s even harder :/ but then i found a good color match with revelons foundation but its really heavy n nasty feeling on my face so i think i might switch to clinique. plus i recently had this nasty eye problem n so the doc gave me a shot and some pills n told me to not use any make up or soap for a while n to just wash my face with plain water. i have to say, my skin has gotten SOooooooo much more better. not only did the medicine n shots get rid of the infection, but cleared up my entire face.

All your blog posts are really interesting, nicely written and definitely not something that will make me thinks “i shall skip this posts, not relevant for me” haha

I have been wondering if you have every used SK-II products? like their masks, treatment essence and serum. My sisters have previously used other brands but stopped and switched to SK-II for quite a few years now. Not sure if they are really that good because the price is a bit too high for me.

oh and one more thing, can you recommend any good make up removal cleanser?

Hey Windgrey, thanks so much for your lovely comment. So happy to hear that you enjoy my blog. :)

Actually I have never tried anything from SK-II, though I have obviously heard lots about it and my friends swears by it. And her skin is perfection, so I suppose it’s great. But like you said, the prices are ridiculous and to be honest I’ve never been attracted to the whole “brand image”. I always assumed it was for older women, more to anti aging? Please correct me if I’m wrong! You could always try your sister’s out for a while (or get samples?) and see how it works for you? Then if you feel it’s worth the price then maybe you could invest?

And my favorite makeup remover is Clinque’s Take The Day Off, the liquid version, though their wipes are pretty good too. :) xx

hey :) i just realize u and me have the same shape of eyes …. ok this is a weird question
what kind of shape of eye do you have ? round ?almond? monolid ?

Reply

Renee August 11, 2011 at 13:34

Haha Fany this is so weird ’cause I NEVER know what the shape of my eyes are either. Some tell me how I have such “big brown eyes” and then some tell me my eyes are small. And I remember when I was a kid my friend’s Mom would always tell me I had “pretty almond eyes”. Sigh… I have no clue! I think their both – almond but a bit roundish?! :-S

Any tips for not getting smudging of eyes through the day? I only ever wear mascara (top & bottom) and a thin line of liner (top lash only), but by the end of the workday I always seem to have lots of black collecting in the little creases under my eyes – not really visible by other people (maybe they tihnk I look a bit tired though?) but I find it annoying! I use maybelline at the mo, I like how it goes on…but do I just need to spend more on a product with better staying power, or do I just need to apply it better?
I’m really aware to NOT rub my eyes during the day (I’m the one with a very muddy job, if you remember?) so thats both because my hands are really dirty and to limit smudging.
Can’t really go without – I have very fair lashes and glasses…my eyes simply disappear if I don’t use something on them.
Thanks so much!

Renee August 11, 2011 at 13:38

Ah, I used to have that so much – it’s your mascara flaking, I believe! I had that many times but I switched mascara and it was fine, I really think it’s your mascara! Also, make sure your mascara is dry. What you could try is that after you apply your mascara, try not to blink for like 15 seconds and just use your hand to “fan” it abit so it dries. I def think it’s a mix of not being completely dry and the mascara formula. Has this always happened or just recently?

And yes, I remember your muddy job! Haha. How’s it going? xx

Reply

Renee August 11, 2011 at 13:39

Oh just thought of something else – are you wearing waterproof mascara? If not, it could be the heat smudging it. I don’t normally recommend waterproof mascara (I personally don’t like it as it’s so hard to remove) but maybe that’s an option? xx

Reply

Holly August 15, 2011 at 18:42

thanks! Its been happening for ages, but its only recently started to really bug me. Will try the fanning/drying first, then venture into different formulas, see if they are better. I want to avoid the waterproof route, as you say its so difficult to remove, but if thats what it needs to be, so be it.
The job is still muddy..but pays the rent and is kinda fun, so its all fine :) do occasionally wish I needed something out of the capsule work wardrobe, or workday-into-evening outfits that magazines talk about…rather than safety boots and hard hat! x

Do you have oily skin?

What product do you recommend for Asian women who has oily skin?

Reply

Renee August 11, 2011 at 13:42

Hey Agatha! I don’t think I do. I had acne when I was a teen and would notice I’d look “oily” after a few hours, so perhaps I did. Not sure! I would def recommend using oil-free EVERYTHING on your face (cleanser, foundation, moisturizer) and for makeup, def don’t forget a layer of loose powder. I think carrying those little oil blotting sheets in your handbag would be great as well!

Reply

Agatha August 12, 2011 at 01:21

I’ve used blotting sheets. Although, I use a sheet every hour, they are beneficial. Thanks Renee!

Ooh this is so much fun, Valentine! I enjoyed reading everyone’s questions and answers (plus I have to also agree with 90% of the crowd: I love the new sleek design, it’s minimal but beautiful!) Ok here are a couple of questions for you too:

1) If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
2) What’s your favourite food/and what do you eat daily? I know you’re vegetarian so I’m curious to see how you get the daily recommended amounts of protein, fibre etc (Ok this is getting a lil’ weird and all nutrition-y LOL)
3) Is there anything on Beauty Fool you think that needs improving or wish you could add? (This is an optional question because girl, your blog is amazing already!)

xx

Renee August 11, 2011 at 14:07

Hey V! Yeah this is really fun, you should try it out sometime! I’ll do this a few times a year I think! OK here goes:

1) Hmm… I really don’t know! I don’t “idolise” anybody so there’s no one famous I’d like to meet. It’ll be cool to meet my favorite bands I suppose?

2) Haha your questions really make me think! Either that or I’m SO boring. I don’t know if I have a favorite food. I’m one of those “eat to live” types, definitely not a “foodie” haha. I was obsessed with spaghetti as a kid (I named one of my dolls Spaghetti, wtf) so I suppose that’s my favorite? I like anything Italian to be honest! Pizza, lasagna… yum!

I’m actually a pescetarian (people who don’t eat any meat except seafood), but I kinda hate seafood haha! The only thing I can tolerate is fish and prawns so I’ll have that once in awhile. (This also helps when I go out and there’s like NO veggie option, so I always choose the fish option.)

Stuff I eat daily… lots of carbs unfortunately. If not I’m bloody hungry all the time! I know it’s kinda “bad” but who cares, I love it! But it’s all wholemeal, which is where I get my fibre. So it’s brown rice, wholemeal bread, and wholemeal pasta… there are no “white” carbs allowed in my diet, they are horrible! As far as protein, I eat A LOT of tofu, like massive amounts and stuff like almonds, peanut butter, etc. All my meals are loaded with as much veggies as possible and I try to eat a lot of fruit as well. (Unfortunately my weakness is vanilla ice cream so I eat a lot of that daily as well… oops.)

3) Ooh good one! I’m a little obsessed with my blog design, I seriously need a life. I think the improvement would be to get a design that I like and then STICK TO IT. Sheesh! I am never satisfied. BTW, I wanna ask your opinion – would you vomit every time you log onto my site if I put a photo of myself in the banner? I want a “girl” as a model in the banner (think it’s too plain, needs an image) but meh how am I gonna hire a model? So my friends were like just put one of your old modeling pics on it. But it seems kinda narcissistic? Eeee I don’t know, I’d feel weird seeing my face on the top haha.

And thanks so much, I am so glad you like it. I do wish I had more time on it though as I have MANY ideas but it’ll take awhile to implement it. Anyways, I want to know YOUR answers to your questions, miss. I wanna know more about my Valentine!!! xx

Ilyana August 12, 2011 at 14:26

Okay woman, you’ve convinced me! I’ll do an Ask Me Anything post on my blog this weekend and post the answers to the same set of questions in that same entry!

There is nothing wrong with being obsessed with your blog design LOL, I mean Beauty Fool is your baby so it’s only natural you would want it to look perfect ;D Also about the banner, no I’m not going to vomit seeing your face because you’re stunning lol! If the idea of it makes you uncomfortable though, maybe get something illustrated? :D

I’m here again because I realised I actually forgot to comment about your answers lol!

I think you’d want to meet Tokio Hotel right? Is Bill your fave? ;p Because he’s my fave (along with millions of other screaming teenagers LOL) Anyway, YAY you’re a pescetarian! I have a number of friends in Melbourne who are either vegetarian, pescetarian or vegan, they’re really big on wholesome eating here so it’s nice to try some vegan/vegetarian options when I’m out for dinner! AND I LOVE TOFU TOO! Srsly, I go nuts for tofu. I have this really awesome vegetarian Mexican place near my apartment which sells the most incredible grilled tofu burrito and ah there’s nothing like it! If you do travel to Melbourne one day, I’d love to take you there! Btw do you have any tips or recipes for wholemeal pasta? I tried it a couple of years ago and I don’t know if it was the way I cooked it but the pasta ended up hard and icky :( Maybe I should give it another shot.

Take care V xoxo

Renee August 13, 2011 at 11:25

Ah yeah, meeting Bill Kaulitz would be surreal. he’s my fave male “fashionista”. His style is wild, I love it, he’s my fave too!

Tofu is sooo good. When I started becoming a veggie I knew I should try it but the first few times it was so gross and I hated it! Then I learne dto love it and now I’m obsessed haha. And SIGH Melbourne sounds amazing. My friends all talk about it and the food sounds so good! All I know here for “healthy” eating is Cedele, which I am getting bored of haha.

Hmm wholemeal pasta is the same like any pasta? You just boil it and then add it into what sauce/things you like with normal pasta? It tends to be a little hard, but if you boil it slightly longer it can become soft. I like it hard (omg so wrong) so I don’t mind it being like that. Try it a few more times, if not I teach you in Nov :D

Hiya Renee,
I love your blog btw!!!
I would like to ask you what are your tips for starting up a new blog, as you have inspired me so much to get out there and do something enjoyable!!

Also if you had to take 3 beauty products to a desert island what would they be????

Thanks xx

Hey Fairo! Yes – just do it! Just start and you’ll see how fun it is! :) The rest will come naturally. And I know it’s cliche, but be yourself. Don’t try to copy other blogs, and just write how you normally would. And regularly! Oh, and Wordpress is the best, I’d definitely recommend getting on that! And please let me check out your blog once it’s up! :D

Ooh tough one. Um… moisturizer, sunscreen and a tinted lipbalm! All the essentials, basically :)

Hey! Unfortunately, no I haven’t – don’t like lasers haha. If you are planning to get them done, PLEASE research very carefully, a girl I knew didn’t go to a good place and got burned, and now there’s this weird discoloration on her pits. :(

hi renee, the chanel eyeliner duo palette you so often rave about looks so awesome! i have read that it should be applied with a wet brush, but i was just wondering what do we wet it with? just tap water? how do you use it?!

Reply

Renee August 12, 2011 at 11:19

Hey Alicia! Yup, tap water! It comes with a small brush so I just run that under the tap and then dip it in the eyeliner and apply. It’s AMAZING, you must try it! xx

Just two:
1) If aliens landed on earth tomorrow, what would you do?
2) How much does vanilla ice cream on a cone rock?

k let me answer my question for you myself..

1) Independence Day + Men in Black = Will Smith.
2) They rock my socks.

Mary August 12, 2011 at 10:32

wait…

i didn’t mean i’d do will smith.. I so did not mean for it to come out like that.

I meant I’d go to Will Smith. He’ll know what to do.

heh

Hmm… are the aliens cute? ‘Cause then I’d keep them as pets and train them, and then you know, ~* world domination *~ hehe.

OMG. NOTHING is better than vanilla ice cream. NOTHING!!!

Hey, how do you conceal really obvious dark eye circles?
And is there any affordable concealers to recommend and what price do they range between?

Reply

Renee August 14, 2011 at 16:21

Hey Sierra… try a salmon/peach colored concealer instead of the usual yellow. The misconception is that dark eye circles are “blue” and to counteract that color yellow would be the best, but personally I have found it’s not.

Unfortunately I do not know any affordable or drugstores concealers that are good. :( I’ve only tried about 3 in my life so far, they are on the pricy side but they are REALLy good: Clinique’s Dermablend, Benefit’s Boi-ing and Laura Mercier’s Secret Concealer.

(Also, I think I should write a proper post on dark eye circles, I’ve been getting so many questions about them! Look out for that soon!)

Hi Renee! I forgot exactly where and when I found and started reading your blog but I have to admit that I really really LOVE reading your beauty tips and all of your other blog posts , they never bore me! So keep them going ok! <3

I would like to ask for your advice , hmmm … how do you know whether your skin is dry or oily (or combination of both ?) Cause mine is rather dry , but I have pimples ,blackheads(around the nose area especially!) and blemishes on my face and I find them really annoying cuz also I have tried a lot of diff products to improve my skin or make it better at least but it stays the same or even WORSE :(

I am only 17 this year. cleansing and moisturising is sure enough for me right ? What are the best and affordable product for me ?

Reply

Renee August 14, 2011 at 16:31

Aw thanks so much, Eezaa! I am really encouraged by all of your sweet comments, sometimes blogging can be so stressful but you all make it wonderful. :)

Haha love I think you answered your own question… if you have acne-prone skin (oily) yet some areas are dry, then you have what they call “combination skin”. :) The best is to use a oil free cleanser and moisturizer since you have acne prone skin, and perhaps when you moisturize your face, focus on moisturizing the drier areas of your skin first, and then whatever moisturizer is left on your fingertips apply to the other areas on your face.

Yes, I think cleanser and moisturizer is enough. Do you use some kind of pimple treatment for your pimples?

As for products, I cannot say what’s the best for you, as everyone’s skin is different! It’s all about trial and error, unfortunately. I am writing a long post on my experience with acne (and how I got rid of it) so do check back soon… hopefully it can be helpful for you. :) xx

EEZAA August 14, 2011 at 20:31

hehehe thanks Renee for the reply and your advices!
Sadly , no . I don’t use any pimple treatment hmm cuz I always thought that they are some kind of a gimmick or something.
your advice on this ?

Looking forward to read your long post on your experience with acne!

xoxo

Renee August 16, 2011 at 17:08

Hey Eezaa, oh no, they are not gimmicks! They definitely work. I have some favorites that I will recommend in my acne post – this week is full but I think I will post it up next week? I really hoe it will be helpful for you and others suffering from acne xx

Reply

Renee August 14, 2011 at 16:45

Hey Dino (aw your name is one of my favorite guy names haha)

Hmm what catches my eye? Nice hair! I think that’s the first thing I notice in a guy – and the messier/ wilder, the better! I just like hair, haha. And I know this is totally superficial, but height as well – I am quite tall for a girl so I need a guy who’s taller than me! So a tall guy definitely catches my eye as well.

As for winning my heart, very good question! No one has won my heart yet. :-P

Hey Huan!

You can get it from True Colors at Takashimaya. It’s a small shop near the escalators on B1. I don’t know the exact unit but it’s in the corner where Guess and Zara are. :)

1. Where do you shop for clothes?
2. Where do you shop for makeup?
3. Will we be seeing more fashion stuff on here? ;)
4. What makeup sins were you guilty of? Hehee…

Renee August 15, 2011 at 23:27

Thank you so much Nur! :) How have you been? I hope you’ve been well!

OK here goes…

1) Mostly online, like American Apparel, (my closet is like 90% American Apparel haha). Then sometimes the usual like Mango, Zara, Topshop. I have to say I hate shopping though, so it’s like 90% online!

2) Hmm… the MAC counter? Haha. I have my “essentials” that I buy like every few years so I don’t shop for makeup much either! (Apart for mascara, where I just go to wherever I am at the moment – usually Orchard Road.) My favorite mall is Takashimaya! Where do you usually shop for makeup/fashion stuff?

3) Yeah! I am planning tons of stuff here on BF but I’ve been putting them all on hold since I’ve had eye issues for the past 2 months (and doesn’t seem to be going away, sigh.) I’ve been planning to add in outfit posts and videos, but yeah… it’ll be up once my eyes heal and I can wear makeup and look decent enough to show my face again :-P

4) Ooh. Lining my lower inner lash line… not a good look, especially if you have small eyes – it “closes” it so much and made me look really “squinty” – did that all through high school but finally stopped once I learned about makeup more, thank goodness!

Thanks for your fun questions, Nur. :)

Hi Renee,
I have had and still occasionally have acne on my face. Though the pimples have stopped for the most part, I still have a few scars on my cheeks that do make me self conscious. I went to a few derms and they all they I should go in for glycolic peels, salcylic peels and then finally laser.
Im very unsure of all these chemicals on my face – esp when they say that the peels will make me break out more. Help please?

Reply

Renee August 15, 2011 at 23:30

Eeks… have you read my post on my Glycolic acid nightmare?

http://www.beautyfool.net/my-glycolic-acid-nightmare-experience/

UUUGH just thinking about it makes me freak out! But then again, it’s different for everyone and if you go to someone who really knows what they’re doing, it could be fine, but I really don’t like all that harsh stuff on my skin, personally. That and it ruined my face! If it were me I’d rather laser. Also, you can just start using exfoliating products – it will take a LONG time, since it’ll exfoliate your skin little by little, but I suppose that is the most “natural” way that won’t cause too much trouble.
