A Quick Tip to ‘Repair’ Your Broken, Brittle Makeup Pencils

April 29, 2010

As someone obsessed with eyeliner, nothing is more painful than seeing it brittle and all broken up! Luckily, for any pencil-type makeup – eyeliner, brow pencil, lip liner – there is a simple way to making them work again.

If your pencil keeps breaking as you shapen – or worse, as you’re applying – it could be that the lead inside is brittle and prone to breaking completely.

But one way to harden it again is to keep it in the fridge for 2 hours. When you take the pencil out again, it’s a miracle! However, it is quite ‘hard’ afterward, so warm the pencil by drawing a few circles in your palm… your pencil then should be as good as new.

Have you tried out this tip yourself? I did recently and it works like a charm.

I’ve never had a brittle eye pencil before, but now I’ll know what to do if I ever have one. Thanks!

Hi Renee,

Maybe you should write on finishing compact foundation, where the center part of the foundation has finished, leaving only the corner part. Kind of wasted to throw it away since one good refill foundation cost more than 50 bucks.

Hope you understand what I am refering to! Thanks!

I do this everytime before I sharpen my pencils :) (PS: can we give suggestions for quick tips? I can imagine it’s hard to come up with new things!)

Thanks for the tip. I had a brittle pencil once which kept breaking. I didn’t know what to do so I threw it away, which really a real shame. But next time it happens, I’ll definitely put it in the fridge. :)

Aw, yeah – do pop it in the fridge next time, there’s always a way to ‘save’ your makeup, hehe. :-P

I love this post! I am an avid eye pencil user and I had no idea about the fridge! It is amazing on how the refrigerator keeps us beautiful.
